I've always hated any secret that you couldn't figure out from in-game hints. My least favorite are ones that include a percentage chance of it occurring in addition to being completely obscure.

Yep. I'm fine with having to look closely, but when finding stuff becomes a matter of combing every pixel such that the only realistic way to find it is to draw on the collective knowledge of the community sharing what everyone has randomly stumbled into. I especially dislike secrets that require you to make blind leaps of faith into death pits in platformers, effectively requiring you to jump into every hole if you want to trial-and-error your way there instead of relying on guides.

I made lavender honey once to put on pancakes. It was pretty good, though the lavender flavour was pretty weak even after steeping overnight. In retrospect, steeping it directly into the honey probably wasn't a great idea, given how concentrated honey is, so if I do it again I'll steep the lavender in hot water instead, then add that to the honey and reduce it back to its usual consistency.

Nah, you don't want your money to be perishable goods, but, it will likely be barter, yes.

Money requires an overall government structure in order to be worth anything, generally.

It'll likely be a form of barter, but it wouldn't surprise me if certain bartered items that have inherent value get used as currency. Something like bullets in the Metro games, iron bits in grim Dawn, or Path of Exile's entire economy (PoE's currency items are consumables that can be used to alter your gear in some way). Money only has value because society says it does, meaning sellers can trust that buyers will agree on how much the seller made off of their sale, but things that are easily transported and are universally agreed to be useful can be used as a currency without having to formally organize their value.

This is what's baffled me most about America's covid response (and, for that matter, the response of non-Atlantic Canada, since everyone else in this country has botched it by comparison). Restricting inter-state travel (tracking entry, isolation periods) from the outset would have done so much to limit which states were hit hard. It took literally months for some states to hit significant, uncontrollable case numbers, and if they'd acted quickly to keep cases from coming in, they would have had to do far less as far as locking down goes. Instead, borders were left completely open and the virus spread as readily as people did.

I dont think many people age meats in their homes though do they? I think its mostly restaurants cause it has to be in specific conditions where they can control the temp/humidity/airflow

You can rig up your own system using a mini fridge, if you want. It's not perfect, and you'll want nothing but the meat in there, but it's possible to dry age your own meat. Just be prepared for it to smell pretty funky (or so I've heard. I've never actually tried it myself).

Metalsonic66 posted...
Personally I heavily salt the steaks and put them on a wire rack in the fridge for just a couple hours before cooking

That's more brining than dry aging. "Dry aging" refers specifically to letting the fat in the meat undergo a series of oxidation reactions. It's actually very similar to aging cheese, chemically speaking, and longer ages will yield a similar funk as what you get from really stinky cheeses. What you're talking about falls more under the umbrella of marinating.

FatalAccident posted...
i grinded lots of sea salt over it and let it sit for half an hour.

Again, I haven't tried this myself, but apparently the optimal approach to that is to salt it either immediately before cooking, or at least an hour beforehand. Anything between those two extremes will result in a subpar product. When you salt meat, it starts to draw moisture out of it. That moisture creates a super-concentrated brine that breaks down the surface-level connective tissue, eventually allowing that moisture - and the salt it now contains - to be absorbed back into the meat. If you cook it before it reabsorbs the liquid, though, you end up cooking off the meat's juices and ending up with a bunch of salt right on the surface, leaving dry meat that just tastes like salt. Wait long enough, and the meat stays juicy and has the salt distributed through it.

Alternatively, cook it immediately after salting, and the meat still has its juices, but the salt will be more superficial.

I completed a 2-year pastry school program and spent a year working in a bakery before I moved and went back to the office job I had before I left this city (mostly because it pays twice as well as a bakery job would), but I also know a lot just from having an interest in the underlying theories and science behind everything (especially baking) and doing my own research to figure out how it all works. If you're curious about such things, I can heartily recommend The Food Lab (https://www.amazon.ca/Food-Lab-Cooking-Through-Science/dp/0393081087). I haven't read all of it yet, but it goes into exquisite detail regarding the underlying science of cooking (it's where I learned the above explanation of brining) and debunking common myths (i.e.: searing steaks doesn't keep moisture in). It's pretty nifty.

Makes sense. It's the same principle as regular buoyancy: fluids resist displacement and will exert a force as they attempt to return to their undisplaced state. The only change here is that it's the air pressure under the liquid barrier that's both causing the boat to "sink" and the fluid to push back, rather than gravity.

Original post: "If we impeach Trump, then that sets a precedent for impeaching any future president over rhetoric that vaguely relates to a violent protest"
Implication: "Trump's rhetoric only vaguely relates to the violent protest in question"
Counterpoint: "Trump's rhetoric was the primary motivator for this violence"

If Trump's rhetoric relates more than vaguely to the violence, then impeaching him for it will not set a precedent for impeaching future presidents over vaguely relevant rhetoric. That's logic.

Well, not all wine ages well. Some just rots from the bacteria leftover. It's generally created to be aged.

It depends a lot on the wine. Pretty much every wine (and other alcoholic beverage) benefits from some aging (usually at least a few weeks), as certain flavour molecules take some time to fully form, but a lot of those molecules are relatively unstable and will spontaneously break down over time. Some wines hit that sweet spot relatively early, and it's all downhill from there. Others take longer to get there. Others are quite stable and don't really change much with age until you start looking at a really long time scale. The whole "wine gets better with age thing" doesn't actually work as a blanket statement.

SunWuKung420 posted...
Everything tastes better when it is fresher.

Aside from the already-mentioned example of alcoholic beverages, many meats and (especially) cheeses benefit from at least some aging, sometimes months' or years' worth. Flour needs to be aged for about a month after it's milled (unless you bleach it to accelerate the process, which I doubt you're advocating for) to improve the flavour and gluten-forming ability. Many fruits benefit from ripening for a while after being picked (though others will only ripen on the tree/vine). Even bread - as much as it's often hailed as the pinnacle of fresh food - should be allowed to rest after baking to give the residual alcohol a chance to evaporate, otherwise all that escaping gas can cause feelings of bloating.

Generally, yes, fresher food is going to be better, but there are plenty of significant exceptions out there. Making blanket statements like "everything tastes better when it's fresher" doesn't make you sound at all informed about food, it makes you sound like whoever came up with the slogans for Subway and Tim Hortons. That, or some teenage instagram influencer who thinks they're a nutritional guru because they read this one blog post once.

If your yeast were expired, you'd get pretty much no rise in any recipe. If your bread is too dense, you've either got not enough leavening, or you've got too strong a gluten network keeping the bread from being able to expand (most likely the latter). Try either putting a bit less flour in (measuring flour by volume is actually really inaccurate, you may be compacting your cups too much) or substituting a bit of AP flour for bread flour (bread flours vary in just how hard they are, so your recipe may have been using a softer one).

Honestly, I don't think that much would have changed, except that the outrage from both sides would likely have lasted longer and the GOP might therefore have stuck with the "what Trump has done here is deplorable" position for longer. As it stands, they held it for just long enough for the immediate outrage to subside and their base to go back to valuing opposing democrats more than seeking justice for these crimes, then they went back to supporting Trump because that seems like the best political move. Dragging out that transition further might have influenced the outcome of the impeachment because they might have kept up that facade until after it had finished, but if it came to that, odds are they'd come up with some excuse to delay the impeachment trial until they felt they could vote against it.

They *typically* last two years. There's no real "supposed to" when it comes to how long trials take. The standards that are in place just define things like the number of participants needed and other aspects of experimental design, and companies generally budget about two years to achieve those standards because it often takes that long, but that doesn't mean they have to take that long. The Covid vaccines that have reached the market now have met those standards. If they hadn't, they wouldn't have been approved by the FDA (or similar organizations worldwide). If you're skeptical, you can do your research and find the actual trial data that shows that those standards have been met.

You already have access to the results of tens of thousands of doses that have been carefully monitored for months. That is meaningful information, which can be used to make informed decisions. That said, I recommend putting in the work to inform yourself (or convince yourself that you're already informed) well enough to be comfortable getting the vaccine before you become eligible, for the sake of not putting it off indefinitely even after you could be getting it.

Honestly, a bread maker doesn't sound like a very worthwhile investment for you. You've already got the kitchenaid mixer to handle making dough without needing to mess around with kneading by hand, and where you aren't working (IIRC), you've got plenty of time to bake bread yourself. The only advantage the breadmaker offers is being able to schedule the baking so you end up with fresh bread in the morning, but really, you'll generally get better bread if you ferment the dough overnight anyway (possibly in the fridge), and proofing+baking generally doesn't take all that long unless you're making larger loaves (which you really don't have to), such that you could easily weave it into your morning routine and have fresh bread available with breakfast.

Bread makers are very much a convenient appliance more so than one that actually enables anything you couldn't do without it, and where you have an abundance of time and not much space for new appliances, I don't think buying it was a great idea. Bit late for that, though, since I wouldn't expect you to get rid of something you just got, but I guess that's a principle you can apply moving forward.

Waiting for a Zelda Direct to announce DLC is really the only explanation I can think of. The first HW already had the season pass available to buy when it launched (though the content itself rolled out over about a year or so), so it's kind of baffling that there's been no mention of it for AoC. I'm guessing, as you said, they didn't expect it to perform as well as it did, possibly because HWDE didn't sell at that well (the original sold 1.26 million, the 3DS and Switch remakes only sold half a million each, though even that apparently exceeded K-T's expectations for the Switch one), but Warriors games are usually so saturated with DLC that I still would have expected at least something. It's also possible that Nintendo (having been more closely involved in this than in the last one) has kept them from announcing DLC yet for the sake of saving it for the presumptive Direct and/or to support their image of being good about DLC.

I just want to make an informed decision.

And he's asking how you plan on becoming so informed. If you aren't compiling data yourself to study, then you're either going to be relying entirely on what scientists tell you (which will be based on research that's already been conducted and that they are currently reporting, meaning waiting won't offer you any more information), or you'll be relying on anecdotal evidence from laypeople and sensationalist media (in which case you shouldn't delude yourself into thinking you're informed). If you are compiling the data yourself, then you should already have a concrete plan for when your collection period will be complete and what sort of analyses you'll be performing, which you should therefore be able to share right now (though even then, you're declaring your personal research and opinions to be more credible than those of the FDA and other such organizations worldwide, which is a comparison you'll need to defend in order to actually claim that you are more informed than you otherwise would be).

Making informed decisions regarding medical treatments is great. Indefinitely procrastinating those treatments until you arbitrarily decide that you haven't heard enough bad things about it to skip it, however, is not making an informed decision, and that's really all you're going to be able to do with this vaccine (since it's new and high-profile enough that the entire body of relevant literature has already been shared via mainstream media). Given how important this vaccine is, if you're going to put it off, you should at least have a concrete reason for doing so.

In that case, you may need to either establish a new appliance storage area or cull some lesser-used appliances. If the latter, prioritize keeping the ones you use the most and/or that do something that can't be easily replaced.

Seriously why dont more people think topics like this are creepy af?

TC is absolutely the kind of person who saw them on TWD and was like oooo Im gonna keep my eye on them.

Eeyup. Granted, I don't know how much of that is Duckbear's actual thought process and how much of it is him simply parroting Dailymail running articles on the fact that former child stars have reached an age where it's socially acceptable to talk about whacking it to them (articles which are largely targeted toward the sort of person to which you've alluded), but it's still super creepy.
