This protest is fundamentally a terrorist movement. They are, by definition, committing terrorism. This is not because of the cause for which they are protesting, it's because they are deliberately crippling infrastructure for the sake of coercing political change. There's a pickup in the background of the first picture, but it is indeed true that a sizable portion of those participating in the protest now are just cranky right-wingers of all backgrounds and not actually truckers. The movement's identity has been established as a truck convoy, though, and that identity persists even when those involved aren't truckers.

It's not a bad de-escalation strategy, honestly. It seems a bit invasive on the first pass, but this is using publicly available information to identify people that are potentially going to be involved in extremist behaviour and helping to make them aware of ways to express their opinions and beliefs without causing problems. There's still plenty of room to be skeptical about the concept of "government-approved protests," and of course this would be a lot less okay if they were using information she shared privately to identify her, but the basic concept of saying "look, we get that you're upset about this, and you have every right to complain about it, but you can't do X, Y, or Z, so join groups that aren't doing those things instead of that group that is" is a pretty reasonable way to approach the issue.

I'm not a huge fan of the look, but that's just my personal preference and I'm not about to pretend there's anything objectively wrong or inappropriate about it.

This wave is on its way out (though still very present), but that didn't mean the pandemic was over the other four times it happened, and it similarly doesn't mean it's over now. It'll be over when either cases hit zero and stay there (astronomically unlikely at this point, given how unwilling so many people worldwide are to take the necessary steps to achieve that locally, let alone globally), or when it stops being a significant source of morbidity and mortality (which is going to require a combination of higher vaccination rates and some good luck with mutations, all before giving up other infection control measures that limit the damage it can do).

Many places are giving up, but that's very much a matter of political pressure and not public health.

Is how adjectives work. White trash is trash that is white, carrying no implication that any other things that are white are also trash. Specifying that the trash is white implies that it is somehow noteworthy that they are, while the absence of such specification for trash of other races implies that it is not noteworthy in those cases.

The argument can certainly be made that "white trash" would not be racist against non-whites if "black trash," "brown trash," or any similar terms saw a similar presence in colloquial speech, but they don't, so it is.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with adulting, but most people don't buy tuxes, they tend to rent them afaik. Like a wedding dress, there aren't many occasions to wear a tux. And keep in mind if you're a groomsman (the other big time you'd wear a tux outside of your own wedding), it usually needs to match the other groomsmen so you're not even getting a second use there.

Indeed. A suit? Sure. You can wear a suit for lots of stuff. A tux? Not so much. Unless you're making a habit of going to balls, a tux is really only useful for your own wedding, and that's ideally a one-time thing (or maybe once every decade or two if you like renewing vows).

Pretty much every day. Even if I don't wake up until lunch time and only end up having two meals that day, I'll usually start with breakfast food and just skip lunch.

I've never really found that I'm overly susceptible to the tetris effect, but I would occasionally see ascending arrows whenever I closed my eyes when I was playing a lot of DDR.

It's pretty hard to, but honestly, I'm kind of okay with that. Whatever the basis of the 35-40-hour work week, we do need to accept some sort of standard in order to be able to define a livable wage, and that standard is an easy one to start from. There's room to criticize it, certainly (see: experiments that have tried 4-day weeks and 6-hour days and generally seen improvements in productivity), but trying to fight multiple battles at once is hard.

Even then, salted butter usually has somewhere on the order of 1/2 tsp of salt per cup, which isn't exactly a huge amount. In some recipes, that means doubling the amount of salt you've got (or more), which makes a difference, but it's rarely enough to ruin it. In general, you can pretty comfortably get away with just omitting added salt from any recipe that calls for unsalted butter if you're using salted butter, but you can also just ignore it.

Mostly, if you have unsalted butter handy, it's best practice to use it, and stocking it isn't a bad idea if you do a lot of baking, but if you don't have it, you don't need to go out of your way for it. Just pay attention to how your baking turns out, and if it seems to be a bit on the salty side, cut back on the added salt next time you use the recipe.

Because you never know how much salt is in salted butter. If you start with unsalted, then you know exactly how much you are adding.

In reality, most recipes aren't that sensitive and I use salted butter for almost everything instead.

This. Using unsalted is technically best practice, especially for baking (where you don't have the option of salting it to taste because you don't know what it will taste like until long after you could add more salt), but you're rarely going to run into any major issues for it.

I think a shorter $60 game is justified if there is incentive to replay it (no, not just achievements, actual fun reasons). For example, I don't mind $60 for Metroid Dread because it was fun to go back and play it over and over again trying to find all of the sequence breaks and getting the best time. And I will go back and play it again pretty soon now that Dread Mode got released.

My understanding is the main complaint with The Order 1886 was that it was very linear, short, and had almost no reason to replay it.

Yeah, I tend to consider replay value as part of considering how long a game is and what that means for its overall value. I still try not to think too rigidly in terms of dollars per hour (if nothing else, I've gotten thousands of hours out of various free games such that I shouldn't complain about something bring down the average a bit), but short, replayable games are perfectly fine. Short games with no replay value, less so.

That was the biggest complaint I saw. The general verdict seemed to be that it was an alright game, but way too short for a $60 title. There's a lot of room to challenge the "length=value" philosophy so many people apply to games, particularly where it tends to result in games that should be shorter being overly padded and overstaying their welcome for the sake of seeming more like they're worth their cost, but I can also understand feeling like one has wasted their money by getting so little playtime after spending so much.

As much as any other job needs to.

It's kind of hilarious how quickly conservatives turn on Ford. He's alternately the second coming of the messiah or the worst thing to ever happen to Canadian politics. Meanwhile, the rest of us agree on that latter opinion most of the time and are pleasantly surprised whenever he happens to do something right.

I don't know that anything in my library is missing a store page. A few of them have been removed from sale, but they've since gone back up (mostly due to licensing issues that have been resolved).

I started a little bit after the 7.00 patch & have several hundred hours against bots & unranked lobbies, but never played ranked.

In my case, it's the strategy I've never developed. A good chunk of that is because you really don't/can't learn that against bots (since they don't behave like humans, which is doubly a problem if your teammates are also bots), but mostly I'm just not that interested in subjecting myself to dealing with the community long enough to cultivate it. Mechanically, I've got an excellent handle on the game, it's just a matter of applying that meaningfully.

That's basically me with DotA 2. All those hours have been almost exclusively against bots. Their posting styles are different enough that I'd chalk that up to getting suspended on the same day. Neither seem to be able to keep an account active for very long, so I could believe that they went out of commission at the same time and therefore came back at the same time.

Homebrew exists, but so does piracy. Presumably, he did not expect every one of the consoles sold to be used for piracy, because homebrew exists, but he'd have to be idiotically naive to believe that none of them were. A judge would have to be similarly naive to believe any such claims from him.

On the scale we're talking, saying it was only $1000 lost is basically the same as saying that no sales were lost, and that's very obviously not true. $1000 would be 17 $60 game sales, which could easily be lost by a single customer deciding that they'd rather pirate than pay for their games.

The exact figure will probably never be determined, since it's a very complex, nuanced question that nobody's really interested in researching (not that you even really can research it, since you'd be relying exclusively on self-reports and people tend to lie about this, even if they don't realize they are), but I'm very comfortable saying that the real figure is quite a bit higher than $1000 even without having more concrete figures. Similarly, I'm very comfortable saying that it's lower than $65 million.

The key difference, however, being that the vast, vast majority of BLM protests were not at all violent, and even in those that were, the people committing violence were a small subset of the protesters present (and in many cases, weren't even protesters). I'm not about to doubt that there were terrorists acting in BLM's name, some of whom even did so legitimately and not as false flag attacks, but they very much were not reflective of the movement as a whole. By contrast, this movement is fundamentally meant to cause significant economic damage. That's where it crosses the line from being a protest movement into being a terrorist movement, a line which BLM has not crossed because terrorism is not part of its core mandate.

Fortunately, the charge of Criminal Negligence Causing Death exists for exactly this purpose. Less fortunately, not nearly enough of the people responsible for this death are actually going to face that charge, let alone be found as guilty as they are of it.

Axiomatically, they're hiding their explanation. That may or may not be a deliberate effort to obscure the truth. Sometimes, it may be a matter of just not wanting to bother, especially if the explanation is particularly complex and/or the person they're trying to explain it to is unlikely to accept the explanation. That wouldn't really be described as "hiding something."

Anyone can get any procedure done if they're willing to pay enough for it, but most doctors would strongly advise against having such invasive surgery done unnecessarily and would probably refuse to do it.

I don't even have to click that link to know that's an opinion piece, not reporting. The headline itself clearly states an opinion.

That too. He's a very good voice actor who does a ton of stuff, but emulating another actor's voice is pretty common for VA's. He's far from irreplaceable.

Sure there are a few side characters he plays that might end up sounding different or just end up being cut from speaking roles, but his primary role is the one character in the show they could reasonably replace with an in universe explanation very easily.

Mom finds out that she is paying royalties for whoever's voice is used in her bending robots so she force upgrades all bending units with a newer, cheaper voice.

If they were feeling especially nasty, they could make it a temporal update and then re-release all the old episodes with the new voice actor.

Yeah, as iconic as DiMaggio's voice is for Bender, there's no need to hope nobody notices him being replaced because the show can very easily provide an explanation for it without even having to actually break the fourth wall.

Weed: Sure, provided that's not a central aspect of their personality (because that's just annoying) and they don't do it indoors (because while I don't mind the smell that much, being surrounded by it would be a problem)

Tobacco: Absolutely not. The smell of cigarettes is one of very few absolute dealbreakers for me.

She was generally anti-precaution, but I think she left before the vaccine really became a thing. She was very anti-flu shot, though, so presumably that extended to the Covid shots.

Honestly, announcing MP4 was a mistake. An understandable one, since it sounds like they thought things were going to go more smoothly and then ended up completely flipping the table on what had been done prior to Retro's involvement, but they definitely jumped the gun on it.
