I play multiple games [snip]

You're sounding like a very impatient person with very little attention span. You're also making a huge deal out of a rather implausible hypothetical scenario. In the event that all of your digital games get corrupted at the same time and you have to redownload every single one of them and you also feel like playing a dozen different games for less than an hour each in that same day, yes, you're going to find yourself unable to play whatever you want at the exact moment you want, and you're going to end up being slightly inconvenienced by the catastrophic failure of your hardware. In literally every other scenario, though, it's going to be alright. I don't think being slightly inconvenienced in that extremely specific case is really the end of the world.

LinkPizza posted...
Not as slow as you think. You open the tab, pop it out, pop it back in. Which is faster depends on when you last played the game.

Presuming docked play:

Digital - Return to home menu, close current game, scroll over to new game, open new game

Physical - Return to home menu, close current game, get up, reach system, open system, remove current game, place current game in case, remove new game from case, put new game in system, close system, return system to dock, return to seat, open new game

Now, the lengths of some of those steps are variable. If you can reach the system without standing up, that speeds that up. If all of your games are in a single case instead of being in their individual ones, that speeds up those steps. If you have several dozen digital games and the one you want to play hasn't been played in a long time, scrolling over to it can take a while (which I already mentioned, and I'm hoping they update the UI to make that easier as the system's library grows) (this is also true of finding a specific game in a large physical library). The fact remains, though, that physically changing a game takes far, far more steps than changing a digital one, and is generally going to take significantly longer unless you specifically set up the comparison to favour physical (have the system and physical games readily accessible, and compare it to a digital system with a very large library).

Of course, does that matter? Not really. You're never looking at more than 30 seconds or so, tops, and for something as infrequent as switching games, that's pretty negligible. But suggesting that physical makes switching games faster is just plain false (unless, again, you rig the comparison).

LinkPizza posted...
Also, maybe. But the switch is usually in the case, too. In that case, Id be without a switch, too. So, theres that...

I just said that I can fit the Switch itself in a pocket better than I can the case. The case is basically just for traveling, for me. Having digital games means I can bring more than one game along at a time when I toss the Switch in my pocket, which is handy.

LinkPizza posted...
In the end, it works for certain people. For example, I hate digital and wish it would go away. But for others, like you, it seems to work fine or well. So, eh...

If you acknowledge that it works well for some people, you really shouldn't want it to go away. That's pretty terrible of you.

I'm really liking this iteration of Classic Mode. Each run is just the right length to stay interesting, and each one having a different theme is pretty cool. Though when I had to fight Rathalos as Bowser, I got really confused because I've been playing MHGU so much lately. I kept expecting to flinch him or break parts, and I had to consciously stop myself from trying to sheathe my weapon at the end so I could carve him. I'm not a huge fan of unlocking characters as I find them in WoL, since I didn't really like that about SSE in Brawl, but otherwise it's seeming like a fun time. I also hate the fake smash balls. Those are awful.

That said, I'm not going to pretend that I don't feel some degree of anticipatory excitement when something I want to play comes out, hence I had Smash pre-loaded and played it as soon as I was able to today. That's really no different from you being excited for a new league and allocating your whole weekend to enjoy it.

It's not as simple as you're making it out to be. Their lawmakers understandably consider this a slippery slope (which it is), so they are taking measures to stop that.

A slippery slope to... women not being completely subservient to their husbands? Oh no! Not that! better lock up those menaces to society. There's no telling the chaos and havoc they could wreak.

JanwayDaahl posted...
To be honest, most of the male feminists I've seen who say the things you say are the biggest incels I've seen. I see them regularly at my workplace too- they're usually overweight guys who have never had much luck with women, so they fall back to this sort of behavior as a last ditch effort.

Incels are distinct from lonely virgins. Lonely virgins that don't lash out at the world and harbour violent rage toward women for denying them sex aren't incels. Those who promote a world in which women are subservient and exist primarily for husband-sexing, however, are.

JanwayDaahl posted...
How is it unfair if it's true? It's much easier for me as a woman to have sex than it is for a man to have sex.

And that reality exists because of the double standard wherein men are permitted to enjoy and seek out sex and women are expected to tolerate and withhold it (except from their husbands). Fix that double standard, and the whole "key/lock" thing stops being at all applicable for non-reproductive sex (i.e. the vast majority of sex in the developed world) and never used again except by sexist dinks (who are the main ones that use it now).

I doubt it. The industry loves its pre-orders too much to want to give up anything that entices people into them, and retailer-specific bonuses are an easy way to drum up demand (the sense of missing out on whatever's at another store creates a sense of urgency to grab what's at the one you choose). Given that mom and pop stores aren't likely to have enough preorders to warrant giving them bonuses to hand out, big retailers like Amazon and Best Buy are still likely going to have that edge.

I see a lot of people say that, but I really don't see too many people complaining when somebody says this sort of thing is bad. The problem arises when all Muslims are painted as misogynists (or radically violent), because that sort of attitude hurts the many that are perfectly nice people. Provided you make sure the scope of your comment is correct, you aren't going to see too many complaints. Here, let me demonstrate:

This situation is stupid and wrong. Egypt should not have such a flagrantly misogynistic law that so oppresses and infringes upon the personal freedoms of its women.

I very highly doubt that I'll get modded for this. The trick is to say what you actually mean, rather than generalizing the sentiment inappropriately.

And now episodes 7, 8, and presumably 9 are about the Rebels mk. 2 struggling against the Empire mk. 2.

How you feel on a matter like this should be grounded in rational thinking. If you can't substantiate your opinion, you need to start seriously questioning whether or not you should have it.

LinkPizza posted...
Having the option to change doesnt always mean having the means. For example, it probably cost a good deal. And it takes you out of work for a week. Most Americans live paycheck to paycheck. Missing a week or two of work could be pretty devastating to some.

That is indeed a problem with the third world nightmare that is the American health care system. Taking the choice away from adults should not be considered an acceptable band-aid solution for that, though.

LinkPizza posted...
But be closer to 50-50 still would help with bullying. Which is why my vote goes there.

The notion of performing cosmetic surgery on babies in the interest of avoiding bullying is a very, very dangerous road to start going down. Slippery slope arguments are too fallacious to rely entirely on, but if you're going to start suggesting that circumcising babies is okay because making everyone look the same will reduce bullying, you need to be prepared to explain how that exact logic can't be used to justify other cosmetic procedures on babies (or on older children, for that matter).

Despite the fact that one option lets people choose the one they'll be happiest with, whereas the other forces them to stick with whatever their parents chose whether they like it or not? In practice, it's going to be a relatively inconsequential thing and most people are going to settle with whatever they've got, but the fact remains that an uncircumcised person who decides they'd rather be cut can make that choice for themselves, while a circumcised person who decides they'd rather not be is out of luck.

-Bomberman Heroes

I'd have preferred to steer clear of NES games entirely, since the Switch's online service offers them, but 800 doesn't go evenly into 3900, so I had to get a bit more than just SNES stuff. Bomberman Heroes was a bit of an impulse buy based on enjoying Bomberman 64 the one time I rented it many years ago, but nothing else in the N64 section really appealed to me.

I just burned my last 3900 Wii points earlier this week in preparation for the eshop shutdown. Everything is now downloaded onto my SD card, so I think I'm ready for it.
