Gar (as in garden)
De (as in the brand Dell)
Vo (as in voice)
Eer (as irritate)

Well that was the most natural way of reading it for kid me with Indonesian as my native tongue anyway.

Yeah, this makes sense. I think it might be the case that native english speakers from the anglosphere countries are more used to seeing french phonemes get tossed around here and there so something like 'voir' is less likely to be tricky - we've seen and heard the term 'film noir' enough, for instance, to make that rhyming connection, or something like the french "voila!"

I got several FF names mispronounced as a kid. I thought Zidane was pronounced "zi-dain", Steiner was "Steen-ner", Freya was "Free-yah", Eiko was "Eek-co", constantly misread Amarant as Aramant ("Ah-rah-mant"), Seifer was "See-fur", Rinoa was "Rhye-no-ah", Yuffie was "yoff-ee", Aeris was "Air-rees", Shiva was "Shiver", Odin was "Ohh-dinn", and a bunch of others I'm sure I'm forgetting. I also made the Teedus mispronounciation (though I swear I heard Teedus when playing DISSIDIA ages ago).

I also recall mispronouncing the word steak as "Steek" when first reading the word in a video game.

The biggest "mispronounciation" of a word/name I ever made was when I was around 7 or 8 when I was playing some sort of (I think) early quiz computer game and the game showed the word "funky" on its own. I thought it read/was pronounced "Fucky", which when I said it at one point in school or somewhere else in public got me in trouble.

Yeah most of these, I messed up pretty much every Final Fantasy character/term as a kid. I still say chock-obo like chocolate.

Also I said Yoshi with a short o, which to be fair is how the Yoshi speak themselves.

Yeah, I had a friend who did this, too.

1) Because that's how they say it in Mortal Kombat.
2) I never watched the movies. One day someone said the name and I had no idea what they were even talking about. From context, I was like, uhh...do you mean her-mee-own?

TPCi can be weird about pronunciations sometimes. For a while, Aegislash was officially "A-jislash". Thankfully, they eventually fixed it to "E-jislash" like it always should have been.
