Before moving on, Id like to quote the Wiki about Tsukuyos appearance: It was then that Tsukuyo scarred her own face, thus throwing away her life as a woman. Girl, if thats your goal, you need to do so much more than put two tiny scars over your eye. Those arent even disfiguring scars, those are cool scars. This is like that terrible movie I, Frankenstein where Frankensteins Monster is played by Aaron Eckhart and he has almost invisible scar on his face and even within the movie itself no one seems to really care.

Anyway, shes obviously attractive in a non-generic way, but not that attractive. More importantly: in half of her appearances, shes got a pipe. I could not find a single instance of her actually smoking it in the clips I watched of this show, but Ill say now that smoking is a bad quality in anyone except Solid Snake and Gandalf, so just the possibility of smoking is going to make me drop a few points for her.

So, as for Personality, being the kindhearted protector of helpless people and helping women marked for death escape is obviously a good thing, and shes not really an adventurer, which is a bonus. Additionally, I do sort of have a soft spot for person who acts aloof and above it all, but actually isnt and easily gets dragged into everyone elses stupidity.

Can I just say, I really appreciate how the Wiki went out of its way to explain that a Courtesan of Death is a bodyguard for actual prostitutes, and not a prostitute herself, like the writer of that line really didnt want you to think his waifu was a prostitute. I also need to point out that when I put Tsukuyo youtube into google, every single video was a scene of the main character accidentally groping her and her suplexing him in response.

Anyway, all of Tsukuyos experience seems to be in the underground world of ninjas and prostitutes, making her bad at interacting with normal people. Thats gonna be an issue, not gonna lie. And honestly, this may be elitist, but can you imagine trying to explain her job to a friend or your family?

I just want to say, I watched this series with my friend David when we were nineteen. David thought it was amazing and was like dude its so deep, and I just instantly recognized that all of the Christian symbolism meant nothing. More importantly, at the time, I was confused about why Asuka was half-Japanese, it seemed like a useless detail for a character whose entire backstory revolves around being foreign. Little did I know that that was just a recurring thing in anime, where the foreigners are either half-Japanese or full Japanese and raised somewhere else.

So, Asuka has the dubious honor of being the NGE main character whos least insane, which means shes merely violently aggressive and cant understand her own emotions, throws herself into everything without thinking about consequences, throws herself at older men, has a giant inferiority complex she deals with by being annoying, occasionally suicidal, hates boys looking at girls who arent her, cant handle being second best at anything, and cant understand why people dont like her. And shes the definition of a tsundere. How does Word mark tsundere as misspelled, but Monokuma as a real word? Did I add Monokuma at some point without realizing it?

Dont get me wrong: Asuka is also super intelligent, got a degree age 13, speaks multiple languages, and is skilled at basically everything on Earth. Its obvious that she has the talent to be anything she wants to be, but her extreme personality issues basically mean a relationship with her is just doomed. Its a testament to how screwed up NGEs cast is that shes still the best girl in the series.

Do you remember how being born from a wizard and a muggle in the Harry Potter universe had kind of a stigma attached to it? It's sort of like that in Japan, for real (or it was while my instructor lived there). Some folks would call half-Japanese people "halfu", or something to that effect, and it made getting some forms of employment difficult.

I'd imagine that's what's coming into play in the anime trope.

I guess it's a combination of the above and also having an excuse for why the character is speaking Japanese without a horrid accent? The show Asobi Asobase deals with that trope hilariously.

Poor, poor Phoenix Wright. The man was perfectly set up with two different waifus, and Capcom just wont let him have either one. Its not even a Street Fighter situation where Ryu is just fightosexual; Phoenix definitely has interest in romance, it just never seems to happen for him.

Basically, I have the same problem with Iris that I have with all the Yamato Nadeshiko types Im just not into that kind of personality. The elegant poise, meekness, dedication to and patience with loved ones, and inner strength that lets them stand up when they need to on paper, it all sounds good, but in practice, I just dont find that an especially compelling waifu archetype. I know that shes not a pure example of a Yamato Nadeshiko, by the way, but shes clearly still channeling the same energy.

Iris in particular suffers a bit thanks to being so dedicated and submissive to her clearly evil sister. Like, I know that she feels for her family and everything, but girl, there comes a point where you need to stop covering for her, and commits murder is probably past that point. I am happy that she has enough moral reservations to convince her sister to murder fewer people, and that she eventually grows past this, but it takes her quite some time. Basically, Im saying that I prefer my waifus with more backbone.

That said, I do still think Iris has several good qualities as a waifu. She is pretty smart, and yes, her willingness to do (almost) anything for the people she loves is quality. I am just personally not into this archetype, and thats what shes building off of, which means shes just not my waifu, sorry.

By the way, in case youre wondering about her relatively high Girlfriendness, I obviously know that shes a shrine maiden who lives in a secluded monastery on a mountain. Two things, though. First, thanks to the localization, she lives right outside of Los Angeles, which just so happens to be perfect for me (this is a joke, obviously I dont really take that kind of stuff into consideration). Second, I know that shrine maiden jobs arent actually for life in Japan? Its not quite the same thing as a nun, Im pretty sure you eventually stop being a shrine maiden, so presumably shed eventually stop living on a secluded mountain, as opposed to being a dedicated adventurer or something. Side Note: The Wiki says her hair is black, and the anime shows it as black, but its clearly brown in-game, so I counted it as brown.

So, Anna is probably the definitive two high categories, one low category waifu, at least until we get higher up into the list (spoilers, but theres one waifu with two 90+ scores and one <30 score, and shes also got her low score in Personality). Basically, what we have here is a waifu whos extremely beautiful, polite, refined, intelligent, and clearly has a lot of potential as far as being a useful member of society goes but her personality is just completely unbearable.

I cant even post some of the things that are wrong with her due to GameFAQs censorship, but it basically comes down to three things:

• Inability to tolerate anyone having dirty thoughts.
• Inability to tolerate other girls looking at the boy she likes.
• Instant orgasm from just thinking about the boy she likes.

Like, when a waifu sees you in bed with another girl (keeping in mind that shes not your girlfriend yet), and her reaction is to pick up a knife and stand over you creepily until you wake up and claim its your sister, shes not a keeper. I dont need my waifu grinding against a desk while we talk. I dont need a waifu whose parents kept her so sheltered that she doesnt know how to process romantic emotions. And call me a prude, call me old-fashioned, but look. Im never dating a girl who talks about her love nectar. That has to be the grossest possible term.

I have to believe that this is a test to see how Ill react to a stalker waifu, and you know what? Im not that into the concept, sorry.

None of the quintuplets are bad-looking, of course, but I would definitely say that Ichika is the worst after Yotsuba. The shaggy short hair just doesnt do her any favors, and thats her main defining visual feature.

Anyway, her low Girlfriendness is almost entirely a function of her chosen profession: acting. Look. I live in Los Angeles. I know and have known actors. Its a dead-end career path. Folks, no matter how much you want to be in movies one day, do not become an actor. Youre going to be an extra in a toothpaste commercial one time, wait tables for two years, and move back to wherever you came from. But even if you did gain some success, unless youre like Tom Cruise-levels of famous, that job is going to last you maybe twenty years, if youre lucky. And unlike a pro athlete, whose job also ends when hes 35, youre not getting paid millions per year.

Anyway, Personality is difficult. Shes the main sister capable of actually doing work and making judgment calls, which is good, but shes also kind of deceptive? Like, sabotaging someone elses attempt to impress the boy you both like is pretty bad, but being overburdened by trying to support everyone is an extenuating circumstance, so I dont know. I kind of rolled those negative points partly into Girlfriendness. And blushing during romantic stuff, thats a cute waifu trait, yes. By the way, the idea of supporting your family of five using your acting career is just so absurd.

Having watched a bit of this series on youtube, I cant imagine Ichika is anyones favorite waifu in the series. Now, watch her be by far the most popular one and me look like an idiot.

I think Itsuki is less popular than Nino and maybe Yotsuba. Although *MASSIVE SPOILERS* part of her unpopularity was due to a lot of people thinking she'd be the bride despite having the least romantic development, so now that we know she isn't maybe she's more popular now.

Being a superhero is already a strike against you. Being a superhero whos conceited and narcissistic is even worse. Being a superhero with mind control powers, who mind controls other heroes into performing poorly so you look better, is an even bigger strike against you. Being a superhero who brainwashes a crowd of people there to see her into liking her even more is an even bigger strike against you. And worst of all, she uses Tiktok. Am I just an old man for not understanding the appeal of Tiktok or Instragram at all? I remember seeing Fortnite merchandise in a store once and just being like this is the first big franchise that would have appealed to me as a kid that just does absolutely nothing for me as an adult.

So, Piper is a reporter, and shes pretty hold on a second, is her name a pun? Like, Piper = Paper, Wright = Write? Well, anyway, Piper is a reporter, which would be a fine job for a waifu (Lois Lane would do well in this list), but shes specifically a reporter who wants to get into trouble constantly by exposing the secrets of the wealthy elite and considers it a measurement of success to see how many people want her dead. Ill level with you: thats going to cause some problems. I imagine that in the real world, where I live, Pipers style of reporting probably wouldnt get her killed, so Im being a little easier on her than if I was judging life in the post-apocalypse. Although, Im not being particularly consistent about this, because Im also using her post-apocalyptic world to justify not docking points for her eternally dusty jacket and hat. Like, girl, it would take you like an hour to clean that, maximum.

Anyway, Pipers also mostly noble and kind, if you allow for fast-talking and lies to count as long as theyre in pursuit of the truth, and shes determined to do the right thing even if it destroys her own life.

Honestly, Piper is a better hero than she is a waifu, sorry. Fallouts not really a series I think of when I think of waifus.

For this reason, Ive been forced to give Elsa the lowest Girlfriendness score in the entire ranking, below even the witch who murders you and the vampire who destroys the world.

Well, I wasnt sure which version of Lady to use, since she looks wildly different in each game, but screw it, Ill use DMC4s version. Ladys just a very attractive lady, theres not much else to say about that. Of note: I generally like longer hair on waifus, but some can pull off short hair, and Ladys one of the ones who can.

Personality-wise, of course shes rough, playful, brave, and smart. Shes got a load of daddy issues and hangups about her past, but eh, who doesn't have issues? Her main damning quality, like many other waifus, is that shes yet another adventurer. At least she sort of has a home base because she works with Dante, who owns a shop, but she spends all of her time either fighting demons, fighting Dante (that should happen a maximum of one time), or eating pizza. By the way, I did give her points for liking pizza.

I feel like emphasizing this point here: trying to maintain a relationship with someone who spends 90% of her time running around the world fighting demons is going to be an issue. Like, shes got some worldly wisdom to her, and a lot of good qualities, but that alone will be so hard to get past.

By the way, this is barely related: in the terrible DmC reboot, was Kat supposed to be Ladys equivalent? Because Dante, Vergil, and Mundus obviously have one-to-one analogues, but Kat seems more like Lady than Trish, but she still doesnt seem especially similar to Lady.

Millia is our first waifu with a 90 in any score. You may think that thats too high, but its my list, and blonde waifus get an unfair bonus because thats just how my tastes roll. By the way, yes, I purposefully didnt mention that in the nominations topic. I would say shes one of the very few waifus whos called the most beautiful woman in the world in her game where she actually lives up to the hype. I also really enjoy how because shes Russian, she needs to have a ushanka, but she also needs to have a light color scheme because shes blonde, which ends up making her look like a hairy banana in half of her official artwork. Im also just going to assume that the magical beast that likes in her hair is cool and wont consume me or anything. I actually did once know a girl with super gigantic hair, not as big as this, but still down past her butt, and she described it as not being worth the hassle. But it does look nice on Millia!

Millia is a classic acts cold and distant, but is actually kind once you get to know her waifu, of which there are approximately nine-thousand on this list alone. If you add in her soft spot for children, then the number is reduced to merely four-thousand. Its an okay personality archetype for a waifu, Im sure itll be possible to make a connection with her eventually.

Millia basically has two major strikes that destroy her Girlfriendness, though. First, shes an ex-assassin on the run from an assassins guild. They dont even have a cool name like the Order of the Black Hydra or whatever, its just the Assassins Guild. Get a better PR guy. So, obviously thats even worse than a normal adventurer, because not only will she always be on the move, but assassins will be after her, and I assume after me as well. I do appreciate how she defected because she no longer wants to be a murderer, at least.

Second, and I cant believe this is coming up in a waifu list, her Wiki lists her likes and dislikes, and this line exists.

Like her DMC5 look is a callback to DMC3 with the white shirt and the almost skirt made out of ammo pouches.

Her DMC4 look is terrible.

Also she's pushing 50 in DMC5 and still looks great.
