Can you believe that Raven is the only straight example of a goth waifu in this entire list? The only other partial examples are Elvira, who has a goth look and job but not personality, and Tae, who has a goth look and personality, but not a goth job.

I hate doing this, because I do like Raven well enough, but Theres almost nothing to say about her. Shes pretty attractive, but not mind-blowingly so. Shes got a snarky personality and is almost always calm, but occasionally she lets a stronger emotion peek though, but again, she doesnt really take any trait so far as to make it notable.

Normally, I knock points off for being a superhero, but Raven lives in a single city and her adventuring is restricted to mostly dealing with local stuff, and only occasionally dealing with wacky interdimensional threats, so even that attribute is very subdued. Hell, even her omnipotent evil father isnt really much of an issue. If you can get your ass trounced by ninth-graders, you arent that big a threat.

Subdued. Thats the best way I can describe Raven as a waifu, and Im not talking about her personality. Everything about her combines to reach almost complete averageness despite her having a lot of weird, interesting quirks. I can really only imagine her being a high-quality waifu if you particularly like goth girls, which, if you do, more power to you.

As far as appearance goes, Nyx is one of our three oldest waifus. Why did I list Mother Brain as 50-59? Was it just the voice? Hm. In any case, spoilers, but Nyx completely blows the other middle-aged waifu on the list out of the water. I dont know if Im crazy about her fashion sense, I mean, I get that you need to show you live in the Underworld and that youre the goddess of night, so skulls and moons are a requirement, but I dont know.

So, Nyx is basically a queen, which would normally net her a high Girlfriendness status, but shes also a Greek god, right? I dont know how canon this is to Hades as a video game, but in real Greek mythology, mortals became lovers to gods all the time, and half the time it ends messily for them. Theres basically no worse pantheon of deities to be associated with. She also spends all of her time in the Underworld, which, hey, its not that bad, but I dont think Id want to spend the rest of my life there when Im going to spend all of my afterlife there anyway.

If were being completely honest, however, Nyx pulls off regal queen a little too well to be a waifu. Shes just a little unapproachable. I gave her a high Personality score, but thats largely as a person. As a waifu specifically, I dont know. I feel like, even more than other princess-type waifus, it would be completely impossible to have even the remotest equality in such a relationship.

Sorry, Nyx. Gotta nix your chances on this list. Ahahaha, Ill show myself out.

My understanding is that the Olympians are just part of the broader Greek pantheon, so although she's not Olympian, she is still Greek.

Oh hey, Sister #3 comes in #3 of the sisters. Im going to pretend I planned that out.

So, Mikus Personality is her most damning quality. Shes the shyest and most withdrawn of the sisters, and though she gets better about it, shes still sort of that at the end. Weirdly, shes also the least modest about her appearance and doesnt care a lot about being exposed in front of people? And her big obsession is Sengoku Period generals, thats what really gets her going. Ill be honest: I know nothing about Sengoku Period generals. Is that the period with Oda Nobunaga? I know about him.

It sounds like shes got super fragile self-esteem and creates goals for herself that have a chance of failure for the purpose of being able to back out of them if she gets cold feet, which is clearly going to be a giant pain to deal with. Like, if youre into a boy, just say I want to be your girlfriend or whatever, dont design an elaborate test you must pass before talking to him. Like, thats crazy person logic. Im not sure how I feel about her wanting the boy to be able to differentiate her from her sisters when she imitates one of them. I guess its reasonable to want your would-be boyfriend to be able to tell you apart from your identical sisters, especially when literally all of them want to have sex with him, but again, its more weird tests.

Shes supposed to be the smartest of the sisters, but in a least dumb sort of way. Thats fine. I dont mind her being a bad cook, but her main skill still appears to be Japanese history? Gonna be honest, I dont foresee that as being an extremely useful skill as an adult unless youre a college professor. And in the epilogue, her job is running a cake shop? Girl, that **** is doomed thanks to covid.

Not much else to say about her appearance, though. Kind of gloomy, I guess? She doesnt quite rise above the ranks of generic anime cuteness. Its very rare for an anime girl to be anything less than mid-50s unless her series art style is weird.

I hope Im not offending the Quintessential Quintuplet community by ranking what I think is one of the more popular sisters this low. Im guessing her popularity based on a 4chan thread about the series I happened to find and seeing that the majority of posters liked her or Itsuki the most.

She is popular compared to others, I don't rate her that highly though

Looking at Lana again, I think I might have overrated her. Oh well! I wonder what the design process was like for her. Was there a guy who said You know what this series doesnt have yet? Idols, and then everyone just agreed and made it happen? Like, Zelda as a series has a pretty specific aesthetic (or set of aesthetics), and Lana clearly is alien to it.

Well, anyway, Personality. Eh Kind of too cutesy for my tastes? I know that theres more going on internally, where she has unrequited love for Link (and honestly, who isnt all over that short, mute elf action), but she reacts to most situations with that same kind of plastic enthusiasm you find in a lot of anime and idol stuff. I assume. Im gonna level with you, I have watched zero idol stuff in my entire life.

Girlfriendness, well, that was hard. Lana is a powerful sorceress, so I assume thats easy to get a job with. Shes not really an adventurer in the same way that a lot of waifus are adventurers; again, theres a difference between professional adventurer and someone who went on an adventure, and Lana clearly falls into the latter category, which is to her benefit.

Looks-wise, shes not a generic anime cute girl, but shes also not extremely attractive. I think its the hair. I mean, skimpy sorceress costume, sure, weve all seen that many times before, but shiny light blue hair? I dont think it quite works, but its also not a deal-breaker, so its kind of just holding her back slightly.

Can you believe were a third of the way through this list, and this is only the fourth brunette waifu? Very bizarre.

Ive watched a little Jojo stuff, but not enough to really say Im familiar with the series. Im a teacher, though, and my students often think I know more about memes because Im younger than all their other teachers. Usually theyre right. Once, a kid asked me if I know what Jojo is, and I had to lie to avoid things going off-topic.

So, Lisa Lisa is another victim of her series art style. I appreciate the technical competence and imagination behind the artwork, but damn if its characters arent ugly as a result. Lisa Lisa is one of the most attractive ones, and shes still hovering around average. There are things as a waifu worse than generic anime cuteness.

Personality, shes a not-really-stoic, graceful combatant. Most of what I found and read about her is from Josephs perspective, so I wouldnt have minded a more neutral reading of her than her student and son? But its fine.

You know what? I can immediately tell that I overrated her Girlfriendness. I dont know what I was thinking when I originally did this, but I failed to account for her being a wanted fugitive. I know I wasnt really counting her adventurer status against her, because shes not really an adventurer and she has a semi-normal life pre-zombie murderers, but the fugitive status should have counted against her. Poor live-action waifus. Its so difficult to compete with video game and anime waifus in terms of pure attractiveness. Like this actress, whatever her name is, is clearly a 9/10 or 10/10 in the real world.

Anyway, Daisy is a weird one to rank. Shes got a ton of really good qualities, to the point where Id almost say she teeters on Mary Sue territory? Maybe not quite, but she seems like shes just good at everything. Name a skill and shes just the best at it. Even in the first episode, I remember clearly that shes homeless, but still looks immaculate. Like, yes, shes brave, smart, kind, and good with kids, and all of these are positives, but none of them outweigh the main issue here.

Daisys not just a superhero. Shes also a government secret agent who constantly has to travel the world or go underground and fake her own death or whatever. The point is that she has two enormous strikes against her as a potential waifu. You cannot tell me that a relationship with this woman is going to be possible.

Noooo, our last middle-aged waifu, dead!

Can I just say? I have a pretty good radar for telling whats porn and not porn. I know a lot of weird internet porn stuff is hard to identify as porn, but I can generally tell. Undertale rides that line, man. Its a great game, one of the best of the 2010s, but its clearly not some wholesome thing that internet weirdos coopted like Star Fox, Sonic, or Tony the Tiger, but then again, you see something like So Sorry in the game and that is porn, but I know that the game was obligated to put him in because of a Kickstarter thing, so I dont know. I dont know what to make of it.

I bring all of this up because when I played Undertale for the first time (Ive played it like three times), most of the game just kind of rode my radar, but Toriel in particular was like a red alert (so was Asgore). Like all of my alarm bells were screaming as soon as I saw her. Im not even super sure what it is. Anyway, as far as furries go, goat mom is surprisingly solid? I cant quite explain what it is about this sort of chubby middle-aged goat mom that makes her rise to the great highs of perfectly average. I can imagine that for furries, shes like the gold standard or something.

Personality, Im split on? Like, Toriel is obviously very caring and loving and all of that, and I dont mind bad puns (I am something of a master of them myself), but shes also a bit controlling and give-up-y? But then again, the person she tries to control is a literal child, so that mitigates it somewhat? Im split on Girlfriendness as well, but I decided Toriel gets the benefit of the doubt. She at least can take care of a house, which deserves some mention. I cant really count her as a queen, but shes still treated as one by everyone else, so I dont know?

Were in the lots of waifus with average scores in all categories, but who are still very notable part of the list, which is a bit awkward. Like, honestly, Im not a furry, but if I was, I can imagine Toriel being high up on my list of waifus.

To be fair the costume is near 100% spot on for the Robbie Reyes GR from the comics, or at least as close as you can get in live action. It also looks a lot better in motion and with proper lighting than just a still promo shot.

I think what Anagram was saying when he said "porn" was that he saw a character and he thought "the developers know EXACTLY what they're doing here" in terms of pandering to a specific fanbase. So, I guess it goes without saying that Chandra is hotter than hell (dohoho). You know what? Im even into the stupid anime goggles, Ill give them a pass. Can I also just say, by the way, that Chandra has one of the most inconsistent appearances of any waifu on this list? Some of her cards look completely different from the others, and shes just lucky that I used the best normal appearance rule instead of some other method.

As for her personality, its fine. Hotheaded, brash, doesnt like being restrained or told not to do things. Maybe Im overrating her slightly, but those arent really deal-breakers, theyre just minor problems.

Chandras biggest issue is obviously the whole dimension-traveling adventurer thing. Its even worse with her than with most waifus; at least Nami can be relied upon to stay on Earth (or whatever the One Piece planet is called). Shes going to be constantly fighting monsters and stuff. And I dont have the 3 lands + 2 fires to summon her back. I dont have any fire lands to summon her back. Even when I played back in high school, I played an all-white deck. And even back then, everyone made lazy race jokes, so dont bother.

As far as MTG waifus go, Chandra is still probably one of the upper tier ones. Whos her competition? Phage? Spoilers, if someone had nominated Phage, shed probably be in the bottom five, since not being able to touch your waifu without exploding is a very poor quality to have.

Anyway, the point is, I dont really see a relationship with Chandra working out. She seems to unrestrainable and adventurous.

Minas a little too weird? to have an especially high Attractiveness. The pink skin, sure, the horns, okay, but the black sclera, no thank you. If she had normal-looking eyes, shed probably be in the low-to-mid 60s. Theres just something eerie about those eyes that puts me off, sorry. Also, she looks kind of like Buu from Dragon Ball Z, who is possibly the least sexy person on that entire show. Also also, I thought she had antennae, it was only when I watched some clips of her in action that I realized they were horns. Those look nothing like horns to me, am I just insane?

Mina is also yet another superhero. She doesnt even have a power that would make a relationship easy to work with because her power is acid. I cannot think of a single instance when I want my waifu to throw acid. Shes also just kind of dumb? Shes clearly not very smart, as evidenced by her superhero name. Okay, so youre a pink alien-looking girl whose power is acid, what superhero alias do you choose? She chose Pinky. I dont know, maybe thats workable in Japan, like Articuno being named Freezer, but in America, all thats going to result in is either finger jokes or Pinky and the Brain jokes.

What Mina has going for her is a really strong personality, though. Shes energetic, charismatic, brave, fun, and all of that. Shes basically just got an ideal waifu personality, which is to her enormous credit.

Although I listed Kaguya as me not having familiarity with her, I have read a little bit of the manga after a YouTube video recommended it to me long before this topic. So, Kaguyas shtick, if you didnt know, is that shes an obscenely rich girl in love with a guy whos in love with her, but neither is willing to confess it unless the other one does first, and both know it, so they constantly try to manipulate the other one into accidentally doing things that are romantic that would be a de facto confession of love.

Basically, with Kaugya, a lot comes down to your tolerance for mind games. How much can you handle your waifu playing mind games with you? Because its clear that any relationship with her is going to be nothing but mind games. I imagining a relationship with her as basically just being this stupid comic I found:

So yeah, waifu whos way too proud to admit her feelings unless you do first seems like a problem but is it really? Like, unless youre also way too prideful for your own good, does it really affect anything? Like, oh no, Im in a relationship with a rich, beautiful, intelligent girl, how will I survive? Maybe this is a bigger deal in Japan, but I doubt it.

Buuuuut, then we also have her personality independent of the mind games, which is a problem? Like, I imagine that split personality waifus have a very narrow range of appeal, tell me Im wrong. Veering between icy and rational, stupid and overloving, and childish is clearly going to be an issue.

So I dont know. I guess a lot comes down to personal tastes for what you think you can easily deal with.
