currently 5'2" and about 100 lbs (F), but i'm not trying to lose weight, for me it's more about converting fat to muscle. i would like to get a thinner waist/flatter stomach, though.

advice?

My diet is finally better.... Been consistent at 1500 calories a day now, no cardio, just lifting 5 days a week. It's probably 4 days a week of volume but I split one of my days just to save time.

This week is gonna be the roughest. I'm night shift for the next 4 nights after working 13 hour days 3 days in a row. Then I go straight from night to days on Sun-Mon, which would be a full 26 hours straight, followed by a 13 hour day shift on Tuesday. Then I work Wed and Thur day, 6 hour shifts, then Friday night again 12 hours, then finally off sat and sun, and back to normal after that.

Goal is avoid junk food, get as many mini naps as I can, and keep lifting right before I start my shift.

Are you currently working out at all?

Adding weight lifting and cardio to your schedule will help you look better if you're not doing that.

The resource I've been linking people to is this

1500 is pretty low imo

That said, there's a reason I'm not losing weight that fast lol so you know

I'd just personally be worried about hitting out those shifts on that little fuel

5/14: 26:05
5/21: 25:35

Cutting that 5k time down slowly, but that 25:35 today wrecked me. Barely got through it with my heart rate through the roof. I'm a little discouraged. It's probably stupid, but I really wanted to try to whittle it down to 16:30 like that guy from the reddit post. But I guess I still have 6 months to work with, after all.

Don't be discouraged comparing yourself to that guy on reddit. He is either a world class talent or more likely lying. High school cross country runners on 30-40mpw for 4 years are not even guaranteed to crack 18 minutes. It took me 3 years on 40mpw to run 16:30 in high school and I'm a "talented runner".

It will take me over a year to get back to that point, as 6 months on my current return got me from 23:00 to 19:20s.

Do you know what your all-out 1 mile time would be right now?

Knocked out lifting earlier. An hour before the workout I downed a protein shake and a pre-workout drink. Post-workout I downed four slices of white cheddar cheese and four eggs for more protein with no carbohydrates. Ill probably eat later again later today after taking the dogs out for a walk.

I had yogurt and mixed nuts before my workout and I'm having steak and veggies for dinner. Not sure what else I wanna have yet... Eggs sound pretty good

My best ever is 6:33, but that was from 3-4 years ago when I was in better running shape. I'm slowly getting my legs back, alternating 5k days, incline walk days I cap off with a mile run, and 60-minute days where I go slower but try to go the full 60 minutes without walking. My best recent mile is 7:35, but if I went all-out I think I could do 7. Probably couldn't do 6:30 at this point, but that's a goal I'm working toward.

I mean, I'm sure you thought of this already, but a 16:30 5k is 5:19 mile pace for 3.1 miles. Forgetting about the 5k, even improving from high 6/low 7s to 5:19 for for 1 mile in 6 months is probably above-average progress. That might be a better 6 month goal, actually.

Maybe. I'm pretty obsessive when there's something I really want to do though, so I'm going to give it everything I have. 'Above average' isn't the best rallying cry.

After a week of lifting I can honestly assess that strength has somewhat remained constant, but my stamina is nonexistent. Part of it is attributed to cutting carbs again, but I'm still obviously out of shape. I am not discouraged though. It just feels good lifting normally again.

Stomach is down 3 inches since may 14th. Waist is down 1 and 1/2 inches since the 14th as well. Weight is down 2.2lbs since the 14th as I weighed in 253.3 today. Still haven't gotten below 250lbs but we'll get there. I'll be timing my walk today and comparing to last week's progress. Hopefully it has gone done some.

I decided to consume a bit more calories than I was for the last couple days. I believe I was eating too little. Still no word on the blood test, Dr needs to read it over before I can see it.

Just got done with my 1 mile walk.
19:31 for my 1 mile walk, down 2min+ since the 14th at 21:58. Very proud of myself.
My 1/4th mile is down from 5:30 to 4:48 as well.

This might not seem like much to you guys, but to me this is terrific. So maybe I didn't get under 250lbs this week, but I got under a 20 min mile.

;_; no one cares about my walking gains. When I first started walking on may 11th my time was 22:32 and now it's 19:31, that's 3 whole minutes in 11 days.

I've shared this accomplishment with a few of my friends and they don't find it very impressive. Fishermen, I am like 258lbs with clothes at 5'10, that's a lot of work I'm doing when I walk for 30 minutes *sigh* I'm sedentary most of the day, the rest of the time I spend at my desk on a computer.

Weighed in at 161 on the dot today. So I think it was just a diet and motivation thing.

felt like I took it easy on cardio but I went 7.47 miles on my bike, that's my 2nd or 3rd best distance. Taking it light on weights really makes a difference

Hopefully I'm on the road to 150 now

That's all I'll say.

On the brightside, I at least didn't let myself go. I think I actually fell another 2 lbs. while tending to life matters.

Finished the first week back on a more traditional full body split. I was definitely able to lift more effectively with proper rest. Also, it doesn't take all damn day.

My previous heavy volume routine seemed to address some of my muscle imbalances though. Grip strength is noticeably better and my stabilizing muscles in a bunch of my lifts don't hold me back as much. While I can't test new PRs on most lifts until I go to a gym, I should be able to up my working weight on most lifts soon. There's probably easier ways for me to have made similar progress, but whatever.

If only I could keep my diet in check...

Small improvement in my 5k today. Only cut it from 25:35 to 25:32. But small progress is still progress, and more promisingly I felt much better afterward. Last run killed me. This time I'm ready to keep going after resting a few minutes. Making those gains. Also cut my mile time from 7:35 to 7:23 and did 114 total chin-ups yesterday with a 22-pound backpack. Depending on where you're walking, GPS drift can cause minor shifts in position that probably get recorded as movement. Over 7 miles, those little shifts at up.

Like, if you go inside your house, bring up maps, and zoom in you can actually watch the icon bounce around even though you're perfectly stationary.

Your watch probably has a filter that cleans up the noisy data to produce a more accurate distance. Or it uses a combination of GPS and IMU. Your phone app is probably just using raw position and so that's why you're seeing a difference in distance.

Edit: the easiest way to test which is right would be to walk a couple miles next to a road and then drive that path with your trip meter reset. Whichever one is closer to your car should be the right measurement.

I average out the distance, always been a problem for me no matter how many different devices and apps I've gone through.

As to why that happens? Elevation. Up and down hills are not taken into consideration with some manufacturers.
