are you serious, the Yankees couldn't outbid Houston for Greinke? it had better come out that he refused a trade to the Yankees.

Greinke does have a no trade clause to the Yankees in his contract apparently. Yankees absolutely got screwed though. The proposed demand in return for Robbie Ray was absurd. Maybe the Yankees should have made it, but it was still ridiculous.

The Mets , keeping Wheeler really makes no sense considering they didn't add any BP pieces. Either they were to trade wheeler for something as a focus on 2020 or they keep him and get some relievers if they are delusional enough to compete in 2019. Doing one and not the other literally makes no sense. It's always the fucking middle ground, half measures with this team in literally everything they do.

Yeah, Grienke has a no trade clause involving nearly half the league.

And I didn't particularly expect the Orioles to trade anyone. Pretty indifferent about that.

What do you think about Florial for Wheeler? See that's one I thought actually made some sense for both teams. I guess dealing Stroman to the Yankees wouldn't have stung the Wilpons as much since they only just got him. Plus, it's basically turning the guys they dealt to the Blue Jays into even better prospects.

Mets need guys who are ready to play for 2020, so that wouldn't have worked. The stroman deal locked them specifically into that year. Frazier or Andujar for Wheeler would've been more fair like I said but not a fit. If they turned around and dealt Stroman right after getting him, that would've meant they were looking at 2020 as a rebuild year. So I'm not sure I even believe that Stroman reported deal, as it is opposite of their trying to compete in 2020 strategy, which all of their moves have lined up with. The 2019 plan doesn't make sense, but the 2020 does (if they spend, so jury still out "lol")

Also, boy some interesting stuff during the Mets/ChiSox game today.
Ump saved the Mets a run by a line drive that kicked off of him. Runner scored, but the rule is a ball hit off an ump in the infield is automatic 1 base... wouldve drove in a run if it didn't hit him (or if the rule didn't exist)

But earlier , umps blew replay in a play where the sox SS came off second making a force out.

Worst of all though is this, I don't have a video yet, but in the 9th with the go ahead run on first base, JD Davis drives one down the line, lands in the corner and......

It lands right where the field looks like this:
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EA2mNs8W4AAnJh_.jpg

Right where there's no foul line. What the hell???? How is this acceptable for a grounds crew? How can you just not have a foul line there for a good 10 inches? The ball hit right around there. Ruled foul on the field, went to replay and they couldn't tell, there was no way to. It looked fair from one angle but not enough evidence at all. So stupid though that that almost cost the Mets the game.

Luckily, they took care of it (but not before not getting deGrom a win in a gem, as per usual but to be fair it was vs Giolito)

Giants kept Smith and Bumgarner, which I'm very much in favor of, but the moves they did make puts a hole in our bullpen that I'm not sure it's consistent.

On the one hand keeping our bigger names indicated we're playing for THIS season. And why not? With a mlb best July we pulled within 2 games of a wild card slot. The playoff potential is there.

But what did we get for our trades? A handful of guys who "might" be ready good the majors "soon". Only Gennet seems liable to see play soon, and he's been lackluster so far this year, having a late start owing to injuries.

I feel like we needed to pick up more reliable offensive production of we were really planning to make the most of THIS year and we didn't get it.

.

With that said they have momentum on their side and they have enough pieces there that they can definitely do it, I was just surprised by the inconsistency in that approach and I'm worried that we are going to start forfeiting close games down the stretch if the relievers we have to call up don't perform as well as we need them to.

I thought Florial was relatively ready? Could be wrong on that though since I don't pay as much attention to prospects/minor leagues as much as probably should be. But still, I get the point. He is unproven either way and the Mets want proven players to compete next year.

I thought it was fair myself on replay, but not definitively and without the foul line it is difficult to tell. I was a little surprised it wasn't overturned but not completely shocked. That was the Chicago announcers though, wish I had a replay with ours. They acknowledged from some angles it looked fair

So yeah, it's inevitable that a new record for home runs by a team in a season will be set this year; the Twins might even break the record by the end of August. The question is, how far on the all-time list will the current record fall? The Twins are on pace for 314, which annihilates the record, but the Yankees, Astros, and Dodgers are on pace for 272, 270, and 269 respectively, all of which would just narrowly beat out the 267 of the 2018 Yankees.

https://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2018/08/27/Leagues-and-Governing-Bodies/MLB-sked.aspx

Among those new ideas was the creation of several two-game weekend series with Friday off-days, a marked departure from the typical schedule. Clubs including the As, Angels, Rays, Reds and White Sox opted for those, typically with a goal of showcasing key interleague matchups.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said in June that such sets were being considered. The thinking is that by funneling fan interest to those key dates on the weekend when attendance is already stronger, it could more than make up for the loss of weaker Friday dates.

so apparently the teams themselves chose to eliminate a few friday games to boost attendance. mostly small markets with poor fanbases.

OMFGGGGGG the fucking fight in this team (vs the Marlins shhhhhhh), down 4-2 , offense looking lethargic in this 2nd DH game, BAM homers from JD, then back to back from Conforto and Alonso and the mets take the lead 5-4 ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

BOUGHT ALL IN (until we face actual good teams)

yes the mets are within WC range, but the team still has significant weaknesses. it would take a shit ton of luck for them to be able to compete this year and they're finally getting some. but they still have no bench and the bullpen is going to revert and diaz sucks a ton but hey I'm going to enjoy this fun while it lasts cuz I know it wont lol. so if theres congrats its just on the recent fun for now lol
