Yeah I was thinking earlier I feel tepid about this still. This streak has been against trash of the league, and their last series against a real team they blew 3-1 to the Giants, who are about to get swept at home by the Nats wire to wire in all 3 games.

Gotta take at least 2 off the Nats for this momentum to really get anywhere imo.

(Meanwhile the Cardinals recent schedule, which has been awful for them lately, is about to get a lot softer with the Pirates and Reds.)

Reds aren't a bad team. All the NL teams are competitive-ish at a minimum except for the Marlins and the Pirates.
This is the real test here (and Imo the Giants aren't that good either- they still have a negative Run Diff, and while they took 3/4 from the Mets , neither team looked good in that series), but regardless of that you gotta enjoy it while you can, just for what it is. Like every Mets April when they start out well.

also i love getting my heart broken I guess, I just can't help it man, I like to feel something

Orioles allowed at least 5 HRs in each game against the Yankees this series and have now gone 0-10 against them at Camden Yards on the year

Chris Davis went after Brandon Hyde and had to be held back

The next two series are against the Astros and then the Yankees again

But hey, going .500 in July was fun!

The announcers were talking about the Mets and how much of a hot streak they're on during the Brewers/Pirates game last night.

Pretty sure Keston Hiura is going to be the real deal. Too bad Yelich is probably gone as soon as his contract is up, to one of the really rich teams.

He's a free agent in 2023, but has a 2022 buyout. I don't think they have the money to extend him now, or they probably would have.

They're just shy of 128 million this year, and that's the highest they've ever had. The Cubs have almost 90 million more than they do on payroll. The only hope is that he seems to love Milwaukee and the culture they have, since they're not going to be able to pay him what some of the really big spenders would.

Brad Brach and Joe Panik

now both mets. high reward low risk pickups. both having terrible years but with good reps. That's the new August for you.

sure why not

DFAing Hechevarria for Panik though is a terrible greed-incentivized move. If he were on the roster 1 more day, he'd hit a $1M bonus. That is clearly the reason why and is a pattern in the Wilpons treating fringe players like shit. There were plenty more fitting/worse guys to DFA like Altherr or Lagares. but only Adeiny would give the wilpons an extra $1M to go to the Wilpon Winter Vacation fund.

They were getting kind of fun to watch there for a while but the Yankees series crushed that pretty hard.

Speaking of that, the Yankees have already broken the record for home runs against a single opponent for a season with (IIRC) 52, and there are still 4 games in New York still to play. I have little doubt they'll pass 60.

The mets know they don't score runs in this series unless the nats get out to a 2 or 3 run lead first. it's only happened 4 times in 2 days now!

That was as perfect as a surprise bunt gets and was the lynchpin of two more runs

Man, the Mets probably have 4 guys who will get MVP votes this year (Alonso/McNeil/deGrom/Conforto) and they probably won't make the playoffs. That's pretty depressing. I mean yeah they're playing well now, but those 4 guys have been playing fantastic all year (or almost all year). And yet they're only a couple over .500 in mid-August. This team really should be much better, they just weren't given the supporting cast and depth to do so.

Their window to win is probably 2021.

-After 2019, just Wheeler comes off the books of important players. No real $ comes off. But as I've talked about before here, the payroll goes way up in 2020, so competing then will be hard w/o opening the checkbook (lol Wilpons). deGrom's payroll goes up from 9M this year to 25M next year, for one among others.

-After 2020, just Stroman (and Cespedes/Lowrie, and Wright's final payment which are good things to get rid of those big contracts). So there should be a lot of room to add for 2021.

-After 2021, Syndergaard, Matz, and Conforto all are FAs. So that is why they really need to act fast and now to win before 2021 ends. That is the end of all the Mets pitching, except deGrom.

So like, please do things. They were supposed to add properly in this offseason, and instead the moves they made in the 2019 offseason only made it harder for them to compete the next 2 years. The same team will mostly be here next year. Improve it where it's weak and there is a top 3 team, the same thing that should've been done this past offseason, they can still do it, but it will just now result in a higher payroll (again, lol wilpons)

Getting an MRI tomorrow, and if it's just a cramp we'd know by now.

At best, it's probably a strain, which would be like 4-6 weeks. At worst it's a tear, season ender. Either way would be a deathblow to the Mets season.
