It's pretty stupid that the mets can put together like 70% of a very good good team, with just (basically all of) the bullpen being the only real issue , yet they're the 2nd worst team in the NL, meanwhile half the teams in the league didn't try (or claim to try) to build a winning team, and some of those teams are like 10 games up on the Mets

The Diamondbacks sold everything they had except for Zack Grienke. They are better than the Mets.
The Pirates clearly were not buying and just scrappling together a team. They're better than the mets.
Ditto, Rangers.

This isn't a coincidence or bad luck. It's about not knowing how to manage the assets you have. Even on a budget.

current leading candidates imo
NL
MVP - Bellinger > Yelich (sort of close)
CY - Ryu > Castillo (not that close)
ROY - Alonso > Soroka > Tatis (Hard to compare pitchers and hitters for this award)

AL
MVP - Trout (no one close)
CY - Verlander > Morton > Cole > Giolito (this is extremely tight imo)
ROY - Lowe (no one close, the AL rookies arent good)

The overrating by Yankees fans of DJ LeMehieu is more neverending. He's not close to Trout. He is not even in the same ballpark (pun). He'll possibly win the batting title. That's nice. That's not MVP-worthy alone.

Didn't you say you weren't serious before that he wasn't an MVP candiate? Are you still saying that or...?

Trout is MVP but to think that it's "not even close" is silly. DJ could bat .380 if he keeps up with his pace this past month.

Trout leads him in every single category except batting average. His OPS is 200 points higher. He has DOUBLE the WAR. He has 28 homers to DJ's 12. 47 XBH to 35. he has more RBIs too if you care about that stat (I don't really but whatever floats your boats).

It's not close. DJ "could bat .380" just as well as Mike Trout could hit 58 homers and OPS 1.400, while still hitting over .300. It would take a significant fallout from Trout. I'd have Carlos Santana and Bregman ahead of LeMehieu also as of right now, but that's closer.

There are plenty of stats much more important than batting average.

So much for joking before lol

Wow, absolutely incredible.

On the first game back in Anaheim since Skaggs passed, where his mom threw out the first pitch, and all the Angels were wearing #45 Skaggs jerseys, the Angels threw a (combined) no-hitter. Completely unbelievable.

They all laid down their Skaggs #45 jerseys on the mound after the game as a final good-bye. Heartbreaking.

Wheeler to the DL with what sounds like 'dead arm'.

Awfully convenient timing considering he was the only real trade chip they had worth trading. This kind of sounds like the Wilpons faked an injury on purpose for him because they knew healthy they were gonna get a mostly cash/bad prospect return so now if they do wind up trading him they can justify that behavior. I'm like 99% sure this is their line of thinking, without even caring that an injury hurts his trade value and the value they'd get back. Could also be because they don't want him to have any more implosions (again, not thinking).

The timing is just too perfect to be anything other than fake. There was no prior indication he had any other injury and he's just going on with fatigue, not a real injury.

Fuck the Wilpons. Sell the team.

Also, maybe making him throw like 120 pitches his last start was a bad idea?
He's thrown the 6th most pitches in baseball, for a guy who has far from a slate of clean arm health. He averages 104 pitches per start, which is 4th in MLB.

This fucking org literally does everything as wrong as fucking possible. Intentional or otherwise. Ownership incompetency like none other. MAYBE DON'T FUCKING FORCE YOUR TRADE CHIP TO WEAR OUT HIS ARM BEFORE THE ALL-STAR BREAK

fucking hell. I don't really know if it was intentional or not, but I'm sure they're happy they have a built in excuse now for whatever cash and awful prospect they'll now get for him, when before it was just gonna be the same awful prospect but with more cash- the team doesn't see the cash either way

deGrom pitches a fucking gem like he always does, and of course every time he pitches a gem the mets don't score for him. LITERALLY EVERY TIME, ITS HILARIOUS.

So it's 0-0 going into bottom 10th and with a giant on 1st and 2 outs, and the easiest fly ball ever hit to shallow left, Dom "not a LF" Smith jogging into it, Rosario the SS charging back, bam, miscommunication and it basically drops in between them as smith tries to catch it at his ankles but it's too late. Run scores, game over.

https://twitter.com/AnthonyDiComo/status/1152446018320945152

All spring, the Mets declined to use Dominic Smith in left field, even after Smith came to them asking for reps at that position. They said no.

Flash forward four months, and Smith is their regular left fielder. It's an unfair ask to expect him to be perfect.

THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO RUN A TEAM.

The worst part of everything is the Mets are fucked and have no path to contention the next 3 years because of all the backloaded contracts they have. LIke what's the fucking point of backloading all your contracts if , when you're in the light portion of thecontract, you're not going to fucking spend to try to build a winning team? And also taking on Cano's hole contract for no reason on top of it? It's like the fucking team is run by monkeys. Backloading everything + trading for Cano is going to fuck them for a long time. There is no room to add any $ next year, because payroll is going ot be way higher before they even add any FAs, and barely any is coming off the books.

They refused to spend any additional money this year and didn't increase payroll at all in a "light-loaded" contract year, so why would they next year when everyone's salary goes way up?

This is so fucking unacceptable when your team has had 2 winning seasons in 11 years.

This is with them having a JD Martinez (alonso) and Jose Altuve (Jeff McNeil) for essentially 'free' mind you. They have that and it's so sad they have no absolutely no path to contention, no chance of success at all over the next 2-3 years because of how fucking incompetently they made these current contracts, the trade for Cano, and their refusal to add $ to the team when they were NOT all backloaded contracts at one time.

Mind you they are going to need to add TWO starting pitchers and a shit ton of relievers. How are they going to do this? They can't. and as such they won't be contenders for a long time. At least 3 more years of failure. When they've had TWO in the last 11. Fuck the wilpons.

this is what i mean when i say the mets have it shit because they constantly have no hope for the future
every year, theres no path to contention. Because of how they do contracts, and their terrible signings and trades that are only made to "look good". That's the only reason they traded for Cano. So it would "make a splash" and "look good" and "make the back pages"

And when they finally get a light year, they dont take advantage of it and just sit on their hands while the team suffers

Here's the gut punch for the 2020 Mets. deGrom, Lowrie and Familia are making a combined $24.6M this year (come get us). The same trio makes $48.6M next year.

This team has no path to contention in 2020. None. Zero. Owners and Brodie nuked this organization in one month.
