Not really topical, but I started reading Amazing Spider-Man recently. I was never that big on American comics, but I'm a big Spidey fan and had a craving.

I started on #546; that's where the whole continuity gets rebooted so even current readers were new to what was going on. I didn't know they regularly switch artists (though I probably should have, since I used to read Archie comics).

Yeah; episode 129. I remember because I used an episode guide to watch primarily the plot-relevant episodes. I've seen most of the manga and the movies, but not much of the show beyond what was dubbed.

You're close to a major bit of plot development. That's right around where they stopped doing the English dub, and just before a major character is introduced. Be sure to check out the movies as well; they're great and they all tend to ramp up the action.

I still need to check those out. But I started playing Nier Automata, and holy shit that soundtrack. So many great tracks to just chill and listen to. I'm gonna have to buy the soundtrack at some point.

I agree that direct translations are not only a less enjoyable experience, but a true 1:1 translation is often simply impossible due to language differences. There are many cases of dubs that take too many liberties with a script, but on the opposite end I always felt that dubs that stick too closely to the original dialogue just feel stilted and harder to enjoy.

If you want the 100% true experience, learn Japanese; that's all there is to it.

You're once again displaying a fundamental misunderstanding of BLM in general. Most do not believe that cops in general are not to be trusted under any circumstances. Even the ones who believe All Cops Are Bad are saying so with the majority comprised of those who defend or don't call out the The actions of bad cops when they see it. There isn't some blanket "Oh shit there's a cop; we're all gonna die" mentality. Saying there's a clear negative intention when they call the police under any circumstances while not entirely trusting them is just dumb, or serves to fuel your own agenda.

As for the asshole in this story, the initial article very strongly suggests that he was annoyed by the singing. Last I checked, Asians aren't the only people to sing "Happy Birthday". iirc, his rant had racial overtones, but ultimately he was saying whatever he could to hurt and provoke (or, in other words, OFFEND) the victims of his tirade.

If it occurs to you at any point to use someone's race as an insult, or involve it in any way where it's not specifically relevant, you're a racist. It doesn't magically not count if you're trying to piss them off.

You're moving your own goalposts. You were talking about the government having a say on allowing protests (which it didn't in both cases) and being pedantic on wording. Now you're talking about the reception from other people in general - in which case the objection was also to the questionable cause, active antagonizing of medical workers with absolutely no basis, and making a point of brandishing weapons. Lots of people - the world over, as proven - would agree systemic police brutality and/or racism is a cause worth fighting for even in the current state of the world.

I began reading Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou; don't know where it's been all my life, but I love it. It predates and is very similar to Aria, with the Sci fi, scenery porn, and character interactions.

The main character is giving my #1 waifu Mahoro a run for her money as well. But then again they're extremely similar, both being ridiculously humanoid androids with pure hearts and in service jobs. One major difference being that Alpha is practically immortal and Mahoro had a very finite lifespan (and the show would never let you forget it).

I know my town has had several protests and hasn't had much of any noticeable fallout, but that's mainly because nearly everyone was wearing masks and distancing as much as possible under the circumstances. That's in stark contrast to the fallout we're seeing now after the Trump rally last month, where there were maybe thirty masks among the entire crowd.
