Most are totally unrelated. To my knowledge the only two that are connected are Whisper of the Heart and The Cat Returns, and that's a very loose connection.

I accidentally watched those two in the reverse order in immediate succession without realizing they were connected. Given the nature of the connection, I think that actually worked better, since it was pretty much just a matter of saying "hey, that's a fun cameo."

None of the Miyazaki films have any connection. As stated, Whisper of the Heart and The Cat Returns have a faint connection, but they have different directors, and neither is Miyazaki.

In fact, the director of Whisper of the Heart died soon after the movie came out. Which is terrible, since Whisper is the best Studio Ghibli movie and he had a bright future ahead of him.
