Multiple SEC lawyers are resigning after a federal judge sanctioned the agency for false statements & abuse of power in a crypto case. Lawyers Michael Welsh and Joseph Watkins represented the SEC in their case against Digital Licensing Inc., AKA DEBT Box. They stepped down this month after an SEC official told them that they would be terminated if they stayed, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Federal district court judge Robert Shelby ruled that the regulators lawsuit against DEBT Box was marred by false statements and misrepresentations. Furthermore, he and the court ruled that the SEC was abusive of their power throughout their investigation into DEBT Box. Judge Shelby decided to sanction the agency for abuse of power in March. The SECs head of enforcement has since apologized for their actions.

In July, the SEC accused DEBT Box and its executives of defrauding investors of at least $49 million. While Judge Shelby immediately sided with the SEC and forced the company to freeze its assets, he eventually found that the regulator made materially false and misleading representations. Thus, he changed his mind and incited the sanctions. However, the Utah crypto firm was put into receivership.

Now, the SECs lawyers are stepping down, submitting defeat after their arguments against DEBT Box were deemed false. For example, Welsh told the judge that Utah-based DEBT Box was closing bank accounts and transferring assets overseas. The court, however, found that this was false. An SEC investigator later said that a miscommunication led to the error, and Welsh then apologized to the court. Since stepping down, the two lawyers have yet to comment publicly.

If not, her agents and representatives are to blame. I get that they cant pay her a lot because they dont make any money but she should have gotten a Messi like deal where she gets a piece of the teams revenue.

The WNBA has a rookie scale that her contract adheres to, there's no negotiation involved (at least, I'm pretty sure - the NBA has some wiggle room in that their salary can be anywhere from 80% to 120% of the rookie scale amount, but I don't believe the WNBA has that option). And their CBA certainly doesn't allow just straight up giving a piece of the team's revenue, lol.

She's already reportedly been making about $3M/year in endorsements, and that surely has gone up recently/will go up soon.

Profits are going to have sustain and keep going up - and probably need a renegotiation of the % that goes to players when their CBA is up (2027 I think) - before we start seeing single season salaries that hit a million. The highest salary this season is about $241k, with the max set at about $264k for 2027.

My dad and I actually worked together for my first play-through of OoT when I was like 9 - I remember our death counter being at like 70 by the time we finished, and only 3 of them were mine, lol. NASA's map thing is just crashing to a black screen when I put in an Anchorage ZIP code, lol. And just going ~100 miles north from Juneau to Skagway drops from 2% to 1.2%.

I think the animosity toward athlete salaries is really better focused on the owners of those teams. At least the athletes have to legitimately work their asses off and be extremely talented to have a shot at what's a relatively short window of time to make that money - and they are the product! Whatever amount of money is being divvied up between a few thousand athletes (just thinking big 4 American sports, for reference), approx that same amount is getting divvied up between a few hundred owners - largely already-rich people buying already-established franchises and bending cities over a barrel demanding billions in tax dollars to fund their new stadiums.

I used to. I lost interest once it became mostly made up paranormal nonsense. There were more of the true stories in the early days. Eventually that stuff ran out and now he mostly just reads fictional spooky stories.

Doubtful. Injuries happen, of course, and deaths aren't unheard of, but generally the dogs are well-cared for and they do a lot to ensure dogs are healthy at the start and monitored for injuries and other issues by veterinarians at checkpoints along the race, and they penalize/suspend mushers if there are signs of abuse.

And while the extreme conditions of the actual race are a different story (though the breeds are well-equipped to handle the cold and long distances), from personal experience being around teams of dogs during Iditarod training, they seem to fuckin' LOVE the running and pulling.
