Just curious, when they first played Mario RPG, who else initially thought that Exor was Smithy? Because for one thing, you never learn his actual name until fighting him. What also didn't help were commercials referring to him as "Smithy the Sword".

"All was peaceful in the Mushroom Kingdom... until Smithy the Sword shattered the Star Road!"

peach is a healer but so much more. she can do as much physical damage as mario, as much magical damage as mallow, and heal the entire party to full health while curing all status ailments
peach is just plain good at everything with no clear weakness

Peach's weakness is that critics still won't respect her because she wears a pink dress and uses a frying pan for a weapon.

People tell me this, but I've never noticed it. Maybe it's just that the other characters are overpowered in their stat growth. Bowser continues to rip through opponents right until the finish of the game.

He is alive, no paralyzis yet, left side of body feels tingly. He is awake.

3 neck vertebra very broken. He is getting surgery on monday. Not allowed to move neck at all. In the ICU.

He fell 10 meters. Then got lucky to hit a large branch with his thigh that broke his fall a bit, then fell 3 meters down on his neck.

That's good. Hopefully, all goes well.

TC there's an easter egg in booster's tower, there's a curtain close to the top and if you go behind it you emerge as smb1 mario but it only works once

This is why I always save without going behind the curtain. That way, I can trigger the 8-bit Mario gag any time I want.

Some of the modern progressives remind me of the crazed officer from the film Paths of Glory.

He accuses his men of cowardice for allowing themselves to remain pinned down under relentless fire from the enemy. When told that the situation was impossible, he remarks that the only proof of that could be the foxholes filled with the bodies of the dead. Go out and get yourself killed in an impossible situation to prove you're not a coward.

If Benjamin Franklin had ended up with a rope around his neck, he'd have been a figure of infamy in slave states. It would've have done nothing to bring an end to the institution of slavery. Slavers were willing to go back to being a colony of England rather than letting the slaves go free. That's a mighty tall order to say, "Go out and die for what is right. You'll be remembered favorably centuries after you're gone."

It's weird that the Nintendo series doesn't allow OCs anymore.

The character of Toad was created because a pallet swap of Doki Doki Panic had a fourth spot and they figured the nameless Mushroom Retainers from the first game would make a nice addition.

Luigi came about because Mario Bros. allowed for two-player compatibility and a pallet swap allowed for a twin brother.

Bowser was going to be an ox before Takashi Tezuka suggested that he be a turtle like his henchmen.

The Koopa Kids were patterned after programmers and went unnamed until Dayv Brooks was given license to name them.

While the concept of Mario having a mount originated with Shigeru Miyamoto, it was Shigefumi Hino who created the character of Yoshi.

Mario himself only exists because Nintendo couldn't secure the rights to Popeye the Sailor and they needed OC stand-ins for Popeye, Olive Oyl, and Bluto/Brutus. Donkey Kong replacing Brutus.

To close up shop and say no more seems very, very un-Nintendo-like.

While I never listened to the series proper, I listened to The Shadow episode The Laughing Corpse.

It's part of the inspiration behind the Joker. The villain in that episode uses a lethal form of laughing gas which leaves the corpses of the victims with a permanent smile. The plot device was reused for the Joker's first appearance in the 1940s and for the 1989 Batman movie.

I listened to some episodes of The Lone Ranger radio show. I particularly liked the final showdown between he and the man who killed his brother, Butch Cavendish.

The series deliberately avoided recurring villains. But due to Butch's role in the Lone Ranger's origin story, he's become sort of a de-facto arch-rival. He was an exception in the radio show and was allowed to return for a second and final time for the Lone Ranger's 15th anniversary broadcast.

Punchinello just has a weird design. The in-game sprites make it look like he's a bird poking his head out of an eggshell. The official artwork has him looking like this:

You literally let the opposition win by way of forfeit, then you get mad about the way the competition went. Of course older people are going to give an hour of their lives to go out and vote for what they hold to be important. If they're bigoted, they're going to vote pro-bigotry. Taking a knee during the anthem or toppling a statue isn't going to change that. Coming up with a catchy "okay, boomer" meme isn't going to change that. The only thing that's going to keep old people from running America is for young people to challenge them.

But I guess if you can't order a new president from a phone app, you needn't bother with the president. An hour at the polling location is an hour that could be spent on Netflix. Besides, surely there will be enough young people motivated to get out and vote in your absence. Trump is such a hated man -- except by bigoted older white people who are 100% guaranteed to vote.

It's hard to tell if the picture is racist without being able to read all of the captions clearly. It's obviously being facetious in the "We're number one!!" with double punctuation and the "more America" caption for Alaska. Canada being listed as "uninhabited" made me laugh.
