A lot of older sequels didn't really care about continuity too much. Especially if the main character was recast.

Is Val Kilmer Batman the same as Keaton who was the same as Clooney? Kinda? A lot of movies were like that. You're not really supposed to think about it. It's just a new adventure with the character. Trying to work out a timeline is like trying to work out a timeline for The Simpsons.

From Casino Royale onwards they thought about these movies as being more consistent.

That's exactly what I'm hoping for now.

I give Nintendo a lot of shit for their old games but generally they're pretty good with BC for systems that are a direct upgrade. I just hope NVIDIA modernizes a bit more than how Wii U handled it.

3DS released in 2011
3DS XL released in 2012 and basically phased out the OG 3DS
2DS released in 2013 as the new budget model
New 3DS and New 3DS XL released in 2014
New 2DS XL released in 2017

I know it's dangerous to use history to dictate the future when it comes to Nintendo but they tend to go for a three tier model at most. Which is about to be Switch Lite, Switch and Switch OLED. They haven't given any indication they're phasing out OG Switch and the price increase probably indicates they aren't.

They could replace the Switch with Switch OLED when the Pro comes out but then they're gonna have to drop the price. Just seems too complicated.

I think 2021 was the time to release the Pro. Since we're looking at late 2022 at the absolute earliest now I think it's just gonna go straight to Switch 2.

I was pretty convinced that a Pro model was coming thanks to Bloomberg but it seems pretty clear they really don't have the full details.

5 years is usually when they can't wait to move on from their previous system.

Their really successful systems (which would definitely include the Switch) tend to go for 6-7.

Tbh, I barely even notice the difference between game graphics nowadays. PS3 to PS4 was the last actual jump where I was like "yeah, it does look better, sure"

I mean, it would look a little better I'm sure, but not enough where I notice. Super Mario Odyssey already was beautiful in so many ways. Games that aren't the highest-quality with graphics are more of a matter of how much texture-work the devs put into the game more so than the resolution and the power of the Switch (like Mario Golf looks a little rough when you examine it closely because it's pretty clear textures weren't at the forefront of their checklist for that game).

Honestly my only real issues with Switch visuals are the anti-aliasing (it often looks jaggy) and the resolution when it's below 720p/1080p depending on the mode.

360 and PS3 had the same issues. So I think the successor will be in a much sweeter spot. Especially if it has DLSS where it can upscale games to 4k without much grunt. Punching above their weight is classic Nintendo so hopefully that rumor pans out.

The problem I have with a Pro now is that the OLED has the price of what a Pro model would have had surely.

Also announcing the OLED and releasing a Pro a year or less later doesn't really make sense. I could see a Switch 2 in 2023 though. Which could be what these developers are working on now.

It is a shame but not surprising. I played the game in VR and found the scares a lot of fun.

The funny thing with most horror games like it is that the first couple of hours are scary and then the game gets less and less scary as you get into the rhythm and know what to expect. RE7 was pretty good about this overall.

Don't get me wrong. I overall enjoyed it. A part of my lizard brain likes clearing icons on an open world game. But honestly I am a bit confused why Ubisoft type open world games tend to get shit on online while this was highly praised. I felt like I've played this game many times before. The graphics were really nice and the combat was fun (although quite brain dead and easy).

It's a much better game than Infamous Second Son but I do think Sucker Punch made some of the same mistakes. They really need to think about if the content they're adding is actually fun. Chasing a fox a few times is a cute novelty. Looking it up there are 49 of them. 49 instances of giant FOX DEN font telling you to mindlessly follow a fox for the shrine. There's no challenge or fun factor here. The game feels like it's afraid of ever really pushing the player in any way. It's all rather inoffensive and designed to just fly right through it. Either you're fighting Mongols, stealth killing Mongols or doing something disposable and quick. The game just doesn't offer anything else. Which is overall okay but usually these games tend to be shit on the internet but this one seemed to avoid it.

Even the random encounters are samey. There's like 5 of them. All of them are slight variations of fighting Mongols or fighting a bear and Mongols. There's no real reward for actually exploring. There's always a method for the game to simply just tell you where to find things.

The story did its job but the characters and writing were awfully dry. The ending was effective though and it had a few epic moments.

But yeah it was still a fun time but I have a fun time with open world games that a lot of people here seem to dislike (even Mafia 3 and Agents of Mayhem). It's a solid 8/10.
