The vast majority of the fighting in WW2 was between totalitarian states Germany vs the USSR. Imperial Japan vs Nationalist China. Tens of millions of soldiers.

The western democracies with the exception of the British were flattened during the war and the British only hung on because they were an island with a strong Navy.

Its tough politically. Just an anecdote from Colorado-
https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna6089481
Control of the Senate may hinge on the outcome of the race here in Colorado between Democratic state Attorney General Ken Salazar and beer company executive Pete Coors.
But instead of being a deep-think referendum on national issues, in recent days the campaign has been shadowed by sheer happenstance of heartbreaking front-page news: Two college students died in the past three weeks, each after drinking heavily in fraternity houses. One was a 19-year-old Colorado State University student; the other was 18 and attending the University of Colorado.
Pouncing on the fact that Coors seven years ago called for a consideration of lowering the legal drinking age to 18, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee fired off a fund-raising e-mail Thursday morning.

I remember this because it was my first election right after I turned 18. Coors got hammered on this issue and ended up losing to Ken Salazar after Ben Nighthorse Campbell had retired. Colorado was a purple state at this point and Coors (R) lost in a state that Bush (W) won.

Had something like this in the Army. I was working a desk job on Bagram airfield and we had a new Sergeant First Class show up on the deployment as part of the group that was replacing us and within his first few days he was trying too hard to lead and mentor and stopped some private that was putting his M-16 on to a weapon's rack and said "did you clear your weapon before putting it on the rack? I didn't think so. Every time you put your weapon on the rack you need to pull back the charging handle, move the selector level from safe to semi, and then *BANG*" Shot through a wall and into the server room and took out two machines.

He didn't drop the mag so instead of ensuring there wasn't a round in the chamber he loaded one in and then instead of hearing a little ping as an empty rifle fires nothing he fired. The only negligent discharge that we had the year we were over there was some guy huffing and puffing on the need to clear weapons before putting them on the rack to prevent a negligent discharge.

It didn't feel all the personal because in the Catholic Church is a club of a billion people so it doesn't feel special that someone else is in it and my high school had over 3,000 people in it so the governors kid being one of them didn't feel like we were elite.

I liked Star Fox and Starfox 64 back in the day but its not like Star Fox 2 would have been a game changer.

Even within the genre games that were vastly better than either of those games were coming out on the PC in the same era in reflection. If you were a console kid at the time Star Fox was special but games like Wing Commander, X-wing/Tie Fighter and Freespace were the legends of the 90's at this point in that genre not Star Fox.

Star Fox was dramatically worse than other games in the same genre when it came out. Star Fox 64 was dramatically worse than other games in the same genre when it came out. Star Fox 2 would have been dramatically worse than other games in the same genre as well.

Saying "well if it had come out back then I would still not have been playing the stuff on PC that was way better but maybe mommy would have bought me Star Fox 2 for Christmas and I would have played that and it would have been fun" is a dumb argument in 2022.

Reminds me of my dad trying to teach me to drive tbh.

This whole topic reminds me a bit of that. I had a learners permit and drove my parent's automatics but when I got my license and it came time to get a car by Dad decided the perfect car would be a manual Honda Accord because it was super reliable according to consumer reports and a bit cheaper than the automatics and every young man should know to drive manual (Dad was an Engineer).

So when I was a senior in high school we went and got a slightly used two door 2002 Honda Accord with a manual transmission and a moon roof and electric window openers rather than the wind up ones. My Dad thought it was the perfect car but it was a nightmare for me the first few days because I had no idea how to drive it but within a week it was great. I went to the high school lot (it was summer) with my Dad trying to learn it, and then I went to the lot again with my friends (one of them knew how to drive manual) and tried my damndest to learn but I still felt like I drove like crap for a while.

I drove that thing from 2004 to 2018. Great car.

GET GAME PASS FOR PC. And see if your internet service provider has an option to lift all download caps.

Warhammer Total War 3, Age of Empires 4, Halo Infinite, Forza, the Ascent, Assassins Creed Odyssey and a shit ton of other games on on there for you to see your graphics card do some work. Its actually an amazing deal if you want to see a lot of great games from a lot of different genres.

Hell even slightly older stuff like Gears of War 4 & 5 looks incredible if you have a decent rig.

Its the very best way to just try a ton of games at once and it has some of the best games that have been released in the past few years. Its free the first month then a bargain after that.

Even if race is a social construct that construct has to exist in humans at least for there to be distinct and identifiable ethnic groups after centuries of living together.

I don't have a problem with race blind casting but it seems silly to me that people say it makes total sense within the context of the world. It's like putting a Chinese family in a show set in a village in the middle ages in Scotland and saying "oh yeah that's the black Smith Chang Jia from the clan mchaggus."

You're ignorant of how "race" actually works. Not surprising since most racists aren't very smart.

But I guess if you want to burn an alt account, this is one way to do it.

I agree that it's something people should just accept and move on but the way this show and others deal with race is silly if you think about it.

You don't have different races and colors of people living in the same area for centuries or even millenia unless they have a concept of race and something keeping them from intermarriage to the point where everyone is just a melting together of racial features.

This new fantasy trope of one of the families in the village being Asian one being black one being white with no explanation of how these people of drastically different ethnic backgrounds ended up in this place is silly if you think about it but it's not silly enough to make me not enjoy a show.

I feel like they'd probably be too occupied with constant rebellions. I find it hard to imagine they'd ever have the infrastructure to keep up total control over Europe, let alone America, if it has been occupied in this scenario.

I don't think Europe would be much of a problem for them if they had won based on what happened while they were occupying large parts of Europe. Since the first world war the German's normal procedure was to kill 50 locals if one of their troops was killed by resistance behind the lines or in an occupied territory.

This led to the French resistance engaging in sabotage rather than actually killing German troops during the occupation until the allies actually started moving into France.

None of those pictures mean what you think they do. This is a massive event but the "a third of Pakistan is underwater" comes from the fact that many Pakistanis live near rivers and other natural sources of water. If those areas have their water levels rise then large portions of the populated areas of Pakistan will be flooded.

A third of the geographic area of Pakistan is not flooded or even close to that.

The overwhelming majority of people killed as witches were not pagans they were regular people were wrongly accused and then were killed.

Neo pagans coopting their deaths is like people at a furrie convention saying they are spiritual descendants of people that were killed in the middle ages because they were suspected of being werewolves.
