I've always found it interesting how the Dominican Republic and Haiti are on the same island but while the Dominicans are known for having an overabundance of pro baseball players the Haitians are known for having an overabundance of sadness.

Bonds was juicing obviously though. He only hit over 50hr's in just one season and that was in the 73hr year.

Plus he was an overall dick to sports writers who vote the HoF.

I agree Bonds was the best hitter but you can't deny roids didn't help inflate his stats.

That's kind of a moot point in this case though since Pujols is undoubtedly one of the greatest players of all time and a surefire Hall of Famer regardless of your opinion on the Hall of Fame as it is right now.

The HoF can write their song though, apparently. If they do let Barry in I would consider that a fair compromise, although the way they dealt with steroid era players had been absolutely horrible.

David Ortiz literally failed a drug test and was a first ballot hall of famer. Last winter the BBWAA finally let slip the worst kept secret in sports. It was never about roids. Bonds and Clemens didn't get in because they were dicks.

Steroids led to the biggest boom baseball has ever had, outside of the late 20's, early 30's. For baseball to allow that to have happened, knowing that all those stars in the 90's were juiced, take all that revenue, and then turn their noses up at those players?

Anyone who is against steroid users getting into the HoF can go fuck themselves. You have admitted cheaters like Gaylord Perry in there? David Ortiz, who tested positive in '03 and was never announced? And possibly the best hitter ever isn't?

Nah, his decline was already showing in the last Cards season where they won the world series.
If i recall it was the first season his average dipped bellow .300
And from then on, he never hit above that again. The injuries also didn't help.

I don't think people realize just how meteoric his first decade was. It's the kind of thing that's impossible to sustain without impeccable health, especially after age 30 (he was 32 in his first season with the Angels). He hit 445 HRs in his first 11 seasons in St. Louis (408 in his first 10). He hit 234 over the next 10 seasons as he went from 32 to 41 years old and he's hit 21 this year at age 42. His batting average hasn't approached .300 since he left St. Louis initially but the fact that it's still just a couple of notches below that number for his career after a solid decade of batting .250ish is testament to just how amazing his first decade was (he hit .331 during his first decade and that .299 season during year 11 dropped his career mark to .328 when he signed with the Angels).

I'd still say he's aged "pretty well" as most guys could only dream of kicking around so long and popping 20 HRs. Hell the only guys who aged better are Aaron and Ruth, i.e. the two greatest sluggers in the history of the game*
