We know that it takes a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun but nobody's really got any plans on how to stop a stupid guy with a gun and also everyone is a fucking idiot and they all have guns.

Dry-firing your weapon is an excellent drill to get comfortable with the trigger break, with staying on target during your trigger pull, and with overall stability.

HOWEVER

You dont fucking do it on duty, and you ALWAYS check and re-check the weapon before manipulating it.

Like, what the fuck

Every single statistic on school resource officers show they don't actually protect any kids and even in the few occasions they help maintain order among the students the good is outdone by how many students they terrorize by getting them a criminal record rather than handling things with a detention or suspension which formerly was the go-to punishment for things.

He should get prison time, and be permantemtly banned from working in schools, dayacares or law enforcement.

In addition he should have lifetime parole that bars him from using, owning or even touching guns even ones he believes are fake. If he even so much as looks up a gun online he goes back to prison.

No such thing as an accidental discharge. It was negligence.

100% agree with this. If you can't use a gun probably, you don't deserve to use one.

Yeah. It's something you do at the range, in private field empty for a few thousand feet or otherwise in a location where you are the only possible victim and someone else being around is deeply unlikely.

Or if there is a imminent and severe threat that makes checking your weapons function an acceptable risk. Although in that case loading up and being ready is probably better then fucking around. Wasting time is probably risker then a small chance of malfunction you should be regularly checking your weapon in a safe location AFTER OR BEFORE your shift to ensure function anyways.

Yep, every bit of data points to SROs facilitating the school to prison pipeline.

Had something like this in the Army. I was working a desk job on Bagram airfield and we had a new Sergeant First Class show up on the deployment as part of the group that was replacing us and within his first few days he was trying too hard to lead and mentor and stopped some private that was putting his M-16 on to a weapon's rack and said "did you clear your weapon before putting it on the rack? I didn't think so. Every time you put your weapon on the rack you need to pull back the charging handle, move the selector level from safe to semi, and then *BANG*" Shot through a wall and into the server room and took out two machines.

He didn't drop the mag so instead of ensuring there wasn't a round in the chamber he loaded one in and then instead of hearing a little ping as an empty rifle fires nothing he fired. The only negligent discharge that we had the year we were over there was some guy huffing and puffing on the need to clear weapons before putting them on the rack to prevent a negligent discharge.

Dumbass, there's a 9 step method to clearing (a m16/M4) and dropping the mag is one of them

When I went to school nobody had guns.

The kids around me were idiots
The teachers were morons

One teacher I had, Indian lady, once got angry that a kid was talking in class, grabbed him by the arm, pulled him over the desk, lifted his shirt up and starting smacking his back while yelling "I WILL KILL YOU AND KILL YOU AND KILL YOU AND KILL YOU UNTIL YOU ARE DEAD!" because she lost her shit

I wouldn't dare to think what she would have done one day if she had a fucking gun in her desk.

The thought of having guns nearby either of them is terrifying to me

The thought of having metal detectors, see through bags and armed security outside math class is terrifying to me

We're really fucking up our kids mentally. School is hard enough.

This isn't a big deal. We just need armed guards monitoring the armed SROs who are protecting the students from armed intruders.

I'd take it a step further and have armed guards guarding the armed guards who are monitoring the armed SROs who are protecting the children from armed intruders

Simple
