See, that's why I like Isekai Uncle. It's that as a tongue and cheek joke and he doesn't even know what Tsundere is because he got hit by Truck-kun in like the year 1999. He's also constantly talking about Mega Drive and Sega Saturn.

Yeah I notice the only Isekai's that people actually like are parody's (like konosuba) or ones that actually try to do something different from the same Isekai formula. It's kind of insane how you can tell which Isekai's are souless/shameless by seeing how "to the books" they are lol. It was kind of crazy that at one point "battle shonens" and "slice of life" animes were the ones flooding market and now I wish we got more of those.

Isekai has been around forever, but the specific Isekai's that has been flooding the anime scene are specifically Harem Isekai where it's some Japanese male that somehow gets transported into a medieval setting where they are overpowered as fuck, women exist to fall in love with the MC because the plot demands it, and every other guy exists to make the MC look good. I used to think Battle Shonens with "tournament arcs" were lazy as fuck, which I admit is my guilty pleasure, but a lot of the newer Isekai's basically don't even try anymore. SAO isn't exactly an Isekai, but it played a huge role in the popularity with the Isekai genre we see now.

Wow, same thing happened to me!

So I'm chilling in Chipotle last night, as I do, eating my burrito bowl. A cute HB7-8 walks in for a burrito. I'll guess she is 20. I'm not out gaming yet, but I figure this will be a good warmup. I finish my burrito and toss the bowl. By this time she's on her way out. To-go burritos are the devil.

I walk out the door right behind her, tap her on the shoulder.

"Excuse me..."

"Oh, sorry."

"Ha no, I just had to come talk to you before you left. I'm 8s9s10s."

"Oh. Hi, I'm Kate."

"Where are you headed in such a hurry, Kate?"

"I'm actually headed over to Starbucks" (across the street and down half a block).

"Oh, hey, me too, I need some green tea. [this is actually true] I'll walk with you."

So we walk down, I ask her where she lives, what she's doing after her frappucino (a party), etc. She is returning questions. She is pretty shy, but that's to be expected, I'm a casnova, and she doesn't look like the type who is used to talking to boys.

We get to Starbucks, we order, and I tell the guy we're separate (because bump dat, I ain't paying for her $5 coffee). She says she need to get to this party, so I go to hand her my phone, when I realize I left it at Chipotle. So I have her put my number in hers and scramble back over there. I am back in two minutes to show her I found it.

Here's where shit gets real. The guy behind the counter says she said I grabbed her out of Chipotle and dragged her over here. I'm making her uncomfortable and I need to leave. I do not believe this because I am a super friendly guy, so I start bantering back with the guy, who I recognize and have bantered with before, in a friendly way. His next move is "you need to leave or we are calling the police." He picks up the phone and dials. She asked them to call the cops"Whoa, guys, what? Ok, look, Jesus, I am leaving."
I go out and finish my tea outside. A cop pulls up. I ask if Starbucks called him. Turns out yes, he's there for me. I explain what happened and he's clearly on my side, but asks for my name, address, etc. Two more cops show up. Oh boy.
I go up the street and wait fifteen minutes or so. I go back to starbucks and talk to the guy.
"Dude...do I look like I was trying to grope her? I was just talking. I didn't even try to buy her coffee. Come on." *To be clear here, not apologetic, just incredulous.
"Yeah man, I don't know. I've seen you around, you're ok. But just be more careful."
"More careful how? Never talk to anyone?"
"I don't know. Maybe."
So there you have it. The worst thing that can happen when you approach a girl. I used the story the rest of the night though and it went really well. The worst that can happen is you get an awesome story.

It's a sequel and it's exclusive to one console, of course it won't make it's money back. I think sales will go up once it's released on the PC eventually, but this shouldn't be a shock considering how big the game is and how more and more expensive making big budget games like these are going to cost in the long run. Sometimes, even in the movie industry, you have to lose money to make quality entertainment to increase the value of the brand.

The Wolf of Wall Street

This movie doesn't age well on rewatch and the F bombs spewed feels very unnatural at times.

Part 8 is a mess. I still don't get why the Rock Men can't coexist with the humans but that they're a bunch of greedy dudes getting killed off one at a time. Jo2ske S&W stand power was incredibly unique, but at some point it just does whatever is convenient to win. The main baddy's stand was so cheap that Araki had to, once again, invent some kind of Deus Ex Machina to beat it you see the soap bubbles aren't actually bubbles, but it's the SPIN from Part 7! The story was also interesting...until all the mystery was gone and it became "gimme da fruit" story. Part 8 was also the biggest wasted potential for the side characters (Yasuho being the biggest offender) because Jo2ske basically stole all the spotlight. The Higashikata family barely did anything and any feats they did with their stands felt lame. Araki did a disservice to himself introducing Rai too late to the story. Overall the arc felt very unsatisfying, something I can't say when comparing it to the other Jojo arcs. I'm hopefuly Part 9 will be able to fix it.
DI MOLTO!
You don't even need to watch it (though I recommend because it's well made), but you can read the plot synopsis itself on wikipedia to know why this movie will make people mad. It's to prove a point, but still goddamn.
DI MOLTO!
I can safely say Part 9 is starting off really really well. It's going for a "heist" type of genre before it eventually becomes the typical "battle shonen" with stand powers. The characters have great chemistry with each other, though some do fall into the typical "tropes" though.
DI MOLTO!
That was the whole point of the movie, it was a misdirect. The movie did a good job showing both Hugh Jackman and the Christian Bale Twins as assholes.

Disagree, it was a 9/10 for me personally. Maximus ended up being one of my favorite. The Ghoul was only good because the performance was heavily carried by Walton Goggins, but his character ended doing soo many shit that basically makes his character unrepentant. I hope he doesn't get a "redemption" arc and gets killed off in a violent way.

a certain amount of gatekeeping is good, actually

To an extent yes, hence why I didn't agree or disagree. Someone else made a really good post about how casual gaming, in a way, ultimately played a big role why we're seeing a lot of predatory practices in modern gaming, but ultimately it's on the developers and ESPECIALLY the publishers end making the decisions. Like looking at Genshin Impact and coming to the conclusion that the reason the game is successful is because of its gacha system, not because it's a good game that many people enjoy. It really also doesn't help we have a lot of people in executive positions for these companies that don't really understand the gaming market, but are familiar with predatory terms like FOMO, gacha, loot boxes, battle passes, etc.

I can probably understand why Square would call Tomb Raider a disappointment in sales, because most likely even selling in the millions doesn't recoup the cost of production. Games are just getting more and more expensive to make.

So much goofiness surrounding this game

It's the HL of 2024. More people are talking about the controversy of the game than the actual game itself. We'll see if that leads to SB getting more sales because of it.

I'm just tired of thinking that I'm always under scrutiny and that maintaining civility trumps how I actually feel.

Even now I'm coping with that sensation one feels the following morning when they went to bed with the weight of something pissing them off. I'm interacting with everyone around me in a calm and adult manner yet I feel like something inside is teetering on the verge of being rude and agitated.

Let me guess, customer service and/or call desk job? One thing I learned when dealing with customer service jobs is to have an outlet where you're allowed to let your anger out as you build it up during the day/week/month. Mines was buying a punching bag and letting it all out with the mock up of the person face I disliked. It will also really help to have friends/family/professional that you can share this stuff with but also make sure they're not simply "yes" people so they can call out if they feel you're out of line. Trust me when I say, I was a pretty hot head when I was young and it took me awhile to find a way to balance it out, especially when I'm in a Senior Managerial position. You absolutely though should not lash it out in public with strangers though, only bad outcomes can come out from it.

Maybe it is but wouldn't the idea be to get people to not try to buck the trend with their untempered views on a subject?

Someone hearing Unreal's graphics be called "ugly" by a person who only got into gaming in 2015 is perfectly fair, I think. What the hell do they know? Even I admit they didn't exactly age gracefully and the impressiveness of them is lost on me in the here and now but I would never begrudge a game of the era for my modern sensibilities.

I mean, it's a fact of life that casuals will have misinformed opinions on things they're not passionate about, but ultimately they are the main ones funding the games and series we enjoy.

I will say it is scummy to make it a marketing tactic to say there's no censorship, but then do a day 1 patch and cover up the clothing a bit. I don't think it's a big deal, but I can understand the principle (as well as false advertising) why some people would hate this.
