plus, Mike Jack has sold more than her overall:
Is she really popular anywhere else besides the US?
Well she's definitely got bigger boo ~this message has been moderated to protect users from themselves~
Jackson was the biggest pop star of his era. Swift is the biggest of hers.
That's all there is to it.
Have people started fainting at Taylor Swift concerts yet?
the biggest since mj (edit: stateside), perhaps, but not bigger than mj
her broader cultural footprint is also not too significant; she's extremely popular and relevant in the states but she isn't fundamentally changing the trajectory of music or entertainment stylistically in a way that will be remembered years from now, except maybe the business of music
This site created a formula to sort of "even the odds" between artists of the past a present, weighing it so that things like streams and digital/physical album sales are proportionally equal.
The table shows the top artists of all-time using the following ratios:
Studio album : sales of the original album (ratio 1/1)
Other LPs : sales of compilations generated thanks to the album (ratio 1/1)
Physical singles : sales of physical singles from the album (added to CSPC total with a ratio 3/10 for 2-tracks, 5/10 for EPs and Maxis)
Digital singles : sales of digital singles from the album (ratio 1.5/10 for CSPC total)
Streaming : equivalent album sales of all the album tracks (ratio 1/1500 for Audio stream and 1/6750 for Video stream)
Taylor Swift doesn't even make the Top 10.

This. The mental gymnastics people employ on CE to try to act like she isnt immensely talented or anything just because they think it might threaten is lulzy. Taylor doesnt throw punches if they dont deserve it so dont worry, she isnt gunning for the legacies of the Beatles or MJ.no one's insulting Taylor Swift by saying she's not as big as Michael Jackson.
Mj was still bigger. She still hasnt influenced music as much as him, and isnt as big globally as him. Think about how popular he was before the internet made distribution easy.
As a business exec, sure.MJ owned a billion dollar music portfolio, to the dismay of Sony, which included The Beatles' discography. I'm sure her networth currently is higher than MJ's at his time of passing, but to own such a portfolio is one helluva win.
Eras amnesia is a thing so yeah, kinda.???
What would Taylor Swift's Beat It or Thriller equivalent be?The fact that there hasn't been a response to this ends the argument IMO.
???Eras amnesia is basically girls becoming so euphoric during her concerts that they cant remember details of the show.
The fact that there hasn't been a response to this ends the argument IMO.
lol i remember a topic on CE saying gaga's bad romance was this gen's thriller and it kinda seems like it.That's actually a great point. As big as she's become, i cant think of a single new song of hers. The closest i get is "Shake it off". I'd say her legacy lies in her battle against the recording industry. She really set a new standard there and actually won.
but yeah, does swift even have a song she'll be remembered for the moment her name comes up or is it just a string of "really good but not quite there" songs?
