Looking at the list of anime for next season and everything is a freakin' Isekai!

Even DC is jumping on the bandwagon with the Suicide Squad Isekai. Surely this has to be the tipping point where people get sick of it

I thought this was my topic for a moment

Yeah, for every not isekai, there's like 4 isekai premiering at the same time.
Just ignore all of them except konosuba and eminence in shadow

I've got some bad news for you. Isekai has been around long before anime coined the term. It was oversaturated then, and it's oversaturated now. For some reason, no one ever gets tired of it. My guess is because life in general sucks, and isekai provides the best self insert escape for people.

I'm at the point where I actively avoid isekai unless it's a sequel to one I previously watched and enjoyed (like Konosuba S3 this season) or it has a specific hook in is synopsis that personally interests me (like A Salad Bowl Of Eccentrics this season, though that's a reverse isekai and not a traditional one). No matter how good an isekai is, if it's just a generic isekai with no interesting hook, I won't watch it. It could be an absolute masterpiece like Jobless Reincarnation, but if it looks and sounds too generic, I won't watch it.

There's not enough, if its done properly. I just finished Dungeon of Black Company and that was a fairly different Isekai.
Mushoku Tensei is a rough watch in season 1 due to how shit of a person the mc is.

Pretty sure dude stays a creepy pedophile through the whole series so it stays rough
This is why I dont bother perusing seasonal anime anymore. If its actually good Ill hear buzz about it. Otherwise Im just picking interesting looking stuff from the past few years.
The genre would not be the issue, but every single Isekai seems to get more and more lazy.

FFS, they don't even pretend to care about story or world or characterbuilding, it's just "look at this strange gameificated world, where everything is full of numbers and skills and levels, and MC gets this broken cheat ability!"

Take the script of ep1 from 10 of these animes next to each other, maybe redract the character names, and you will have a hard assigning them correctly because they are all the same.
Planning is the process of replacing chance with error.
Isekai has been around forever, but the specific Isekai's that has been flooding the anime scene are specifically Harem Isekai where it's some Japanese male that somehow gets transported into a medieval setting where they are overpowered as fuck, women exist to fall in love with the MC because the plot demands it, and every other guy exists to make the MC look good. I used to think Battle Shonens with "tournament arcs" were lazy as fuck, which I admit is my guilty pleasure, but a lot of the newer Isekai's basically don't even try anymore. SAO isn't exactly an Isekai, but it played a huge role in the popularity with the Isekai genre we see now.

Can never be too many, it's not like you have to watch everything.

Seasonal anime is still worthwhile. A lot of great shows this season, new and sequels.

See, that's why I like Isekai Uncle. It's that as a tongue and cheek joke and he doesn't even know what Tsundere is because he got hit by Truck-kun in like the year 1999. He's also constantly talking about Mega Drive and Sega Saturn.

Yep, pretty much. Isekai with an actually unique premise that are also well-written and well-executed are becoming increasingly rare these days, often getting flooded out by the dime-a-dozen generic ones. I mentioned A Salad Bowl Of Eccentrics earlier, and that show has been an absolute blast so far. "Princess from a magical world gets isekai'd into our world, gets addicted to reading the Detective Conan manga, and uses her magic to help a detective down on his luck solve cases as his assistant" sounded really creative, and so far the show's quality has lived up to that interesting premise.

I kind of like how how it's devolved into "Yo dawg, I heard you like isekai in your isekai" and they started needlessly adding a third layer to it, when they could've just had them live in the fantasy videogame mechanic world the entire time without much difference in story.

So now they're dying on earth, dying in the first isekai world and then living in the third one.
I don't believe in belts. There should be no ranking system for toughness.
There was also that Sasaki And Peeps show last season, where the archmage-turned-talking-bird got isekai'd from the fantasy world into the real world, then in turn isekais the main character into the fantasy world, and the two of them are constantly going between the two worlds on different adventures. So that one's technically a two-way isekai, with both protagonists being isekai'd in opposite directions.

Even if it's really convoluted like that, at least that's some kind of innovation and creativity being brought to a genre that desperately needs it.

That actually seems like it'll be a lot of fun. I'm probably gonna watch it at some point.

I write Naruto Fanfiction. But I am definitely not a furry.
What I don't like about some isekai is how some had no reason to be isekai and would have been better off as a fantasy anime. we have characters dying then no longer mentioning their previous life after the first episode. them being a reincarnation has very little impact on the overall story.

Isekai I like:

Yeah I notice the only Isekai's that people actually like are parody's (like konosuba) or ones that actually try to do something different from the same Isekai formula. It's kind of insane how you can tell which Isekai's are souless/shameless by seeing how "to the books" they are lol. It was kind of crazy that at one point "battle shonens" and "slice of life" animes were the ones flooding market and now I wish we got more of those.
DI MOLTO!
Has anyone ever done a "failed isekai"?

Someone dies. Reborn in a fantasy world. Fucks up and dies in the fantasy world. Reborn again, back in the normal world, while getting told by some god " you suck. I gave you a chance but enjoy earth again, you dumbass"
CE needs an Isekai. Imagine, someone from outside of CE who has never been here, busting into this now-locked board. Would make for a fantastic anime.

I'd like some more far future sci-fi, but most of those were because of Western movies like Robocop and Blade Runner and 2001. And in any case I think maybe the hardest thing to make nowadays is future focused sci-fi anime.

In another world with another world while virtually in another world, but that world is part of a multiverse that is written in a book in another world.
What if there was a reverse Isekai where NPCs come to our world and use their broken cheat power to have sex with our women?

Just wait until a new trendy type of anime comes around that'll make the oversaturation of Isekai look tame by comparison.

This is the only way to stop something from being trendy in a medium: Something trendier comes and oversaturates the market even harder.
