I am playing Luigi's Mansion 3 without having played the original or Dark Moon. So far it's pretty fun and it has me very curious to see how the 3DS games handle the core gameplay with 3D gimmicks.

And no, games like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, or fighting game/FPS series don't count.

I did play a bit of both Witcher 1 and 2 but couldn't do either for more than 5-10 hours so not sure if those count.

Genshin Impact sorta follows Honkai Impact, so that's an answer. Otherwise, nothing on my list of 2021 games seems to apply. Not sure how far back I'd have to go to find something else. Epic Battle Fantasy 3, perhaps, although I played the sequels before it.

Hmm. I think it's been a while. I mostly watched RE4 and that was after watching remakes of 1 and 2 but not 3. Someone mentioned Wonder Boy III, but that's also been quite a while. Steins;Gate with Chaos;head also applies. Luigi's Mansion 3 I actually didn't play much of 2.

looking up my Backloggery history it's hard to find any, there's a lot of cases where I start from the beginning

I did buy DMC3 on the Switch this year but I haven't played it yet

I usually try to avoid this even if it means sitting through something I know I'll enjoy less. I definitely can't think of anything where it's an issue.

For Luigis Mansion 3 I had not played 2 but had played 1.

As far as games where any is a requirement Nier Automata seems right though I did watch a playthrough of the original. For series where Ive skipped most games, I did play that Total War Troy game, having not touched one since Medieval II.
