my brother's a phd student that's completely fallen down the rabbit hole over COVID and hates all media, going on about conspiracy theories collaborating with the government to control everyone, instead opting for youtube videos where people can say the real truth

(and yes he's also surrounded by anti-SJW, anti-feminism shit, and stories about reverse racism. he's in very deep.)

It's a weird thing to take comfort in, but it is refreshing to know how many other people are struggling with family members down these rabbit holes. Denying climate change is by far the most dangerous though.

I don't really find it disturbing. I always thought that people overestimated the amount of trouble Trump could get us in because you don't become a military general by happenstance and at the end of the day military generals hold the weapons.

Its also why military coups are the most common type of coup. You have to have control of the military to seize power. Trump, for better or for worse, was always obviously incompetent enough to the military where that wasn't a serious concern.

I think Russel Brand is quoted along the lines of saying when I was poor and fought against inequality they said I was jealous. Now that Im rich and fight inequality they call me a hypocrite. I think they just dont want to fix the problem.

AOC fighting to address inequality despite being substantially more wealthy than when she was a bartender isnt damning like you think it is.

I mean this absurd. You can say that people are following the same playbook without being the exact same person. I dont think AOC is trying to be a fascist, but I do think she is trying to get a core group of 20-25% of Americans to be rabid fans of hers to win the democrat primary.

If she does in fact stay in the house Ill concede there is no hidden agenda, but plenty of politicians have gotten rich pandering to constituents regardless of who those constituents are. Obviously the republicans are more corrupt, but there has been plenty of corrupt democrats to go around too something like what, 4 of the last 5 Illinois governors are in jail?

FWIW I really don't care about politicians being personally corrupt unless it causes them to have bad policies. Like if Hillary takes millions from international banks to help them maintain their regulatory capture, that's really bad. But if AOC makes millions from starring in TV ads for some non-evil companies, I don't care. Don't care if DJT forces lots of federal employees to stay at his hotels either.

Until literally the day I got my ballot and voted, I was under the impression that you could not vote for question 2 unless you voted "yes recall" on question 1, and even then I had to Google it to double-check.

Would not be surprised if other people thought similarly!

I disagree entirely with that premise. Trump is the natural result of where the gop has been heading for decades. Reagan was thrilled to let thousands of people die for politics. Sure, it's great that people are leaving the party, but it's silly for them to pretend that it's because the fundamentals of the party have changed all that much.

I think past republican presidents condemning Trump shows that isn't the case. Sure, the republican party had complete nuts before such as newt Gingrich and Nixon, but it was never a plank in the party
