It's a weird thing to take comfort in, but it is refreshing to know how many other people are struggling with family members down these rabbit holes. Denying climate change is by far the most dangerous though.

On the bright side, the left-leaning opposition just won a landslide in Norway, the left-wing social democrats look set to win in Germany, and there are signs of a left-wing revival across Europe fought mainly on climate issues. Unfortunately this will not reach America because it doesnt have any left options.

I don't really find it disturbing. I always thought that people overestimated the amount of trouble Trump could get us in because you don't become a military general by happenstance and at the end of the day military generals hold the weapons.

Its also why military coups are the most common type of coup. You have to have control of the military to seize power. Trump, for better or for worse, was always obviously incompetent enough to the military where that wasn't a serious concern.

i think the disturbing part is that the president of the united states had the intention of going rogue, regardless of how realistic this actually happening was.

btw, this is yet another example of why "trump is so anti-war!" has always been bullshit.

Doesn't sound like that. It sounds like he was looking for a way to wash his hands and pass the buck to someone else, in order to keep Trump happy while also remaining within the law.

I mean this absurd. You can say that people are following the same playbook without being the exact same person. I dont think AOC is trying to be a fascist, but I do think she is trying to get a core group of 20-25% of Americans to be rabid fans of hers to win the democrat primary.

If she does in fact stay in the house Ill concede there is no hidden agenda, but plenty of politicians have gotten rich pandering to constituents regardless of who those constituents are. Obviously the republicans are more corrupt, but there has been plenty of corrupt democrats to go around too something like what, 4 of the last 5 Illinois governors are in jail?

Yeah but it is pretty hard to be corrupt when you don't take money from shadowy corporations and stuff. It is why it is a mistake to paint the left and conservative flanks of the democratic party as the same.

Aoc literally just out here trying to fight for people and I think fox gets mad because it is working. Probably going to win the fight on infrastructure thanks to bernie's influence on Biden even. I am happy we have a few fighters in Washington and aoc is for sure one of them. She's not the best legislator but I think that comes with time

FWIW I really don't care about politicians being personally corrupt unless it causes them to have bad policies. Like if Hillary takes millions from international banks to help them maintain their regulatory capture, that's really bad. But if AOC makes millions from starring in TV ads for some non-evil companies, I don't care. Don't care if DJT forces lots of federal employees to stay at his hotels either.

Her platform was never socialism or you cant have money. Dont buy into Republican propaganda and fear tactics. She doesnt want things like the met gala or yachts to not exist. She just wants people like Bezos to pay what they should in taxes.

My big issue with that article is that the author presumes that the gop was fine before trump, and that these problems all came about because of him.

I disagree entirely with that premise. Trump is the natural result of where the gop has been heading for decades. Reagan was thrilled to let thousands of people die for politics. Sure, it's great that people are leaving the party, but it's silly for them to pretend that it's because the fundamentals of the party have changed all that much.

I think past republican presidents condemning Trump shows that isn't the case. Sure, the republican party had complete nuts before such as newt Gingrich and Nixon, but it was never a plank in the party
