Im not sure that disproves that she was functionally all that different, since youd definitely have to weight that based on what, specifically, she supported vs. what she didnt.

I mean, regardless of specific issues, she voted against trumps wishes more often than every other Republican senator (barring ones that were elected right as Trump left office)

It's not misogyny. Susan Collins calls herself pro-choice. She's one of the few pro-choice Republicans in the Senate. (The other is Lisa Murkoswki, who's also responsible since she voted for the Handmaiden) But she went along party lines on this, despite being told "This is bad for women!" She said "No, Brett assured me that Roe was settled law!" Which nobody who wasn't born yesterday was buying.

Yeah. We hate all the GOP senators, but no one is expecting Tommy Tuberville to be some champion of women's rights. He won election because Alabama is the kind of state with a college football coach can win the election, which speaks volumes about their priorities. But Susan Collins claims to be pro-choice, and she's from a state that reliably votes Democratic, yet she's just as lock-step with the rest of the GOP when it matters. You point out her voting record differing from Trump's agenda, but the GOP had a Senate majority through most of Trump's. People like her, or Murkowski, or Romney, or Rand Paul (who I don't think anyone would argue is a complete shitstain asshole) could afford to throw votes against legislation they knew would pass anyway. When the chips were down, McCain's the only person who actually stood against Trump's agenda in a way that mattered.

The other thing for Collins voting record is the Republicans didn't have a 50/50 split in the Senate where they always needed every vote. Collins was very good at voting against the party... when it didn't matter. When they would lose other votes and needed her vote, she would fall in line.

How many of those times she voted against Trump did it matter? The only one I know of off hand was repealing the ACA... but again, her vote against it didn't matter until McCain surprised everyone by voting against it.

Oh fuck right off with this.

You know what's misogynistic? Passing a law that essentially outlaws abortion.

You know who paved the way for that by being hopelessly naive about a pro-life potential attempted rapist judge who insisted during his hearings that Democrats would reap the whirlwind? Susan Collins.

You come back to me when you can cite all the times I helped take away women's rights.

I don't any of us expect that from her. We get upset because she markets herself as this moderate, and she comes from a blue state, yet still votes hardline Republican whenever her vote is actually needed. And let's be honest here: Maine votes for her because Maine, like a lot of New England states, is blue, but wants to be moderate blue instead of liberal blue (hence all the Republican governors we've had up here). So it gets frustrating with her specifically because she paints herself as a moderate swing vote who cares about certain liberal issues, then doesn't support those issues when it matters.

It also is a matter of the difference in parties. Joe Manchin is a conservative Democrat, and he won his seat in a very red state. So when he votes conservative, it's frustrating, but I understand it at least. But it gets annoying that Susan Collins, from a blue state, ultimately doesn't behave in a similar. For Dems, it sucks because our party is so ideologically diverse that we get Manchins and Synemas that screw us over, while the GOP has nothing of the sort. Susan Collins can campaign on moderation, vote hardline Republican every time, and get away with it.

I personally don't hate Manchin and understand his position. However, I can understand how aggravating it is for Democrats as a whole. If Susan Collins was a moderate Republican in a blue state who reasonably sided with the Democrats as a result, I think Manchin would not be as frustrating. Similarly, if Manchim was a moderate Democrat in a red state, yet still rubber stamped Democrat policies in spite of his constituency, Collins wouldn't be as frustrating. But the fact that BOTH put the Senate more conservative, and stymie the Democratic agenda (and as a result, the Dems have to work three times harder than the GOP to get what they want), makes them both punching bags.

I have to imagine Krysten Sinema is more hated than both though.

It's why on a personal level I've never given Manchin as much shit as everyone else does in this topic. By all accounts he shouldn't even be in the Senate. We shouldn't have to rely on a Democratic senator from a ruby red state to be the deciding vote and that's why you get so frustrated at Maine because they voted overwhelmingly for Biden.

Manchin is further left than his state, but still blocks the Democratic Agenda. Especially when that agenda actually helps people. (Let's not forget that his daughter raised the price of EpiPens by 400%!) Sure, he's the reason why Mitch McConnell isn't blocking Biden's agenda. But now Manchin is blocking it himself. There's a functional difference (namely federal judges) but it'd sure be nice if Manchin tried a bit harder to sell his state on infrastructure that will help them.

Collins on the other hand mostly virtue signals her beliefs, but as soon as McConnell says "Jump!" she asks "How high?" It feels like everything she does is for nothing more than show.

I think this is why they're looking to regulate it actually. There's knockoff homeopathic stuff that actually has active ingredient in it and given they usually start with toxic crap people are getting sick off of it. If they restrict it to nothing but the official stuff, then at least they'll be sure to get a placebo instead of poison.

Of course they don't think it's a placebo, but the problems posed by the knockoffs is clear enough either way.

Anyhoo, what spawned my thoughts was that the woman she interviewed came out and said she basically felt ambushed by the discussion because she was never told it'd be about deradicalization, and she wouldn't have come on to discuss it if she had been, and likewise she tried to change the subject multiple times and then asked to not to publish the interview when the subject wouldn't be changed, so she feels especially upset when BJG then went on to call her anger performative since she basically trapped her in the discussion to begin with.

Now, after seeing your last post, I see this has become a she said/she said kind of thing, since the guest is claiming BJG made it about deradicalization, and BJG is saying the guest did, and it's impossible to know since there is a clear cut there between BJG's question and the guests's response, so it's impossible to know what was or was not edited for the final cut, so I'll just back off from the discussion because now I don't know what's true and what isn't.

EDIT: Like, if the guest is now just making shit up, then I retract literally everything I said, but it's hard to know so I'll just "My bad" on bringing it up.
