Its interesting that this show actually takes place before FFH.

I assumed that JK Simmons showing up was just Marvel being smart about casting the best possible actor for the role... but what if hes actually been multiversed over somehow?

Even after everything we've seen in universe and heard about in the rumor mill I hadn't thought of that. BUT... It's JK Simmons. Why would you ever question JK Simmons playing a role, any role? If this multiverse stuff is real I demand JK Simmons plays at least three versions of JJJ because he's already played two alternate universe versions of one character in Counterpart (which was great).

Okay, I'm going for it - Speculation - Agnes is actually the one mind-controlling everyone (Norm only ever says "she," not who she is) because Wanda may be able to do something she can't (like bring a dead person back to life, perhaps this Ralph character she mentions and we never see). She's also there both times the boys age up and (as I mentioned before) she has something potentially sinister to say about the dog just moments before it dies. Perhaps she was trying to manipulate Wanda into bringing the dog back proving it could be done using the grief of Wanda's twins as a catalyst. Only just before Wanda can, Vis shows up. Vis, who has been noticing how Agnes just happens to always be there when it's convenient, have what ever the situation calls for, and isn't actually being controlled by Wanda.
Meanwhile, Heyward would be more than happy to dispose of Wanda because he and SWORD were the ones trying to use Vision as a weapon (when Wanda bursts in they have Vis further disassembled as if they are studying him).

I agree that Agnes is probably behind this somehow, but also I really like that second point - I think there was some misdirection here and it's SWORD who was violating Vision's will by studying him for weapons capabilities and Wanda is the one who stopped it. That makes it make a ton of sense that Wanda would angrily break in and steal him

I think it's possible that the casting is BOTH just an easter egg and ALSO a hint at things to come

Like it might not literally be the same character... but it might not be nothing either

They already teased us with the multiverse fakeout in Far From Home though lol
Whatever his identity, it does seem like him being there is the next step in somebody's plan. In ep2 we had a lot of talk about kids, including that weird "for the children" bit to put the idea of kids in Wanda's head, and by the end of the episode she's pregnant. Then, having had the kids, they put the idea of bringing someone back in her head via the whole dog scenario. Definitely feels like he's the next step in a plan, but to what end I have no idea.

It might be Agnes. She seems to have more autonomy than the other residents especially in this episode, she wasn't ID-ed in ep4 like everyone else, and she instigated both the fundraiser and the dog episodes. And when Vision got through to Norm, he kept saying "she" was doing it, which we're meant to think means Wanda but could just as easily be her.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that weird "for the children" stuff in ep2, that must connection to Vision's 'why are there no children in Westview' thing somehow

And yeah, that's a good point, Norm could very well have been talking about Agnes

It would make sense if the twist was that it isn't Wanda, since that would make Wanda a lot more sympathetic in the end

Each episode has focused on a family sitcom since Wanda wants a family. That's why I doubt the next episode would be based on something like Friends or Saved By the Bell. Instead what's the most iconic 90s family sitcom? You could throw Family Matters or Fresh Prince of Bel Air out there, but Full House would be at the top of the list. The Olsen connection just makes it a little more interesting.

About Pietro, I agree that regardless of his true identity/origin, he is here not because of Wanda but because of the manipulations of the real villain. The shock of his arrival is going to lull Wanda and Vision back into complacency/compliance for the next couple episodes.

The title sequence was based on Family Ties (the painting), Growing Pains (the pictures of each character growing up) and possibly Full House (running around the park).

The house layout was based on Full House: front door on the left that steps down into the living room, staircase going up to the left, large windows behind the sofa, kitchen on the right. However the darker color scheme did remind me of Family Ties.

For the 90s, I was hoping it would be based on Married With Children, and the more dysfunctional family dynamics would represent Wanda losing control of the TV world and Vision becoming more suspicious, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. The most famous 90s domestic sitcom was probably Home Improvement so I expect at least a neighbor hidden behind a fence in the next era.

Looks like I'm alone here, but I wasn't a massive fan of everything going on this week. I like the stuff in Westview quite a bit but god SWORD just grinds things to a halt for me. The acting, direction, 'snappy' dialogues that are largely just meta fan conversations or snarky jokes, everything outside the anomaly is just markedly worse in every respect as far as I'm concerned. Even the set just becomes blue-grey and shiny and the score is repetitive as hell. I think the Westview stuff in contrast just highlights how bland I find the regular Marvel house style.

I guess cos I'm not an MCU guy it's not meant for me, and maybe it's because I'm not familiar with most of the characters outside of this show, but I don't connect to them at all and the Westview crew are just so much more layered and enjoyable to watch. Also the implication that some external evil force is behind things is very lame, I hope it doesn't wind up that simple.

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but I'm just worried that it's quickly going to become a rote Marvel affair now things are out in the open.

I think this was probably the best episode so far because the stuff in Westview was so well-realized but big agree with your assessment of the rest.

With the exception of a few scenes like Monica and the drone forcing Wanda to appear, too much of the SWORD stuff feels unnecessary. I know people are super into the MCU and here for it but as someone not totally enamored with it anymore it just comes across as talking down to the audience and explaining itself. And I really wish they had a but more courage or respect for the viewers to cut that out.

As an example, I didn't realize it was Foxsilver until I read it in this topic. But that joke and twist works even if you don't know that, and it doesn't require an explainer in the actual show! I think that shit is honestly great. The Mandalorian is also like this where there are tons of references but they don't kill momentum by explaining every single one in universe. I was just hoping for something more like that but that's not the MCU style.

Also I don't know if this is a common theory but Monica is totally not Monica, she's a Skrull, that's why her scans were blank and she didn't want to talk about Captain Marvel.

I feel like Captain Marvel is just a sore subject for Monica because her mom died and she wasn't there to help but maybe there's some other tension we don't know about, I dunno why a Skrull would have that reaction in particular though, if anything they'd be less likely to? They stay really in-character but don't always know deeper secrets so they'd probably assume Monica was fine talking about Captain Marvel
