She's also very well aware that Vision is dead and that none of this is real. But I will say it probably makes more sense that she has come to terms with Pietro's death by now than she has with Vision's.
Her rational self knows, but she's clearly not being totally rational.

I'm not really familiar with Vision and Wanda outside of this show but I heard somebody say that Vision doesn't have superspeed normally,
He does. He has the "standard package" of enhanced strength/speed/durability/agility.

I am liking the show, but I felt the first episode was a complete waste. The pacing of this show was a bit off, and I can understand why people were put off at first. The first episode really needed more to grab onto because if you removed it from the series so far, you don't really miss a single thing.

I loved the fact they let the first episode stand as its own thing. One thing I was worried going into this was they'd panic and be afraid that they'd lose the viewer's interest without including obvious plot points about what the story is really about or throwing in big showy action and drama scenes upfront to placate the Marvel brand's expectations. But having the first episode just be a standard sitcom plot with only little else to give things away works really well to keep things surreal and shows a lot of faith in the patience of the audience. I absolutely appreciate it, and more shows and media could do well to have that subtlety and willingness to commit to daring things like that.

Yeah, completely agree with this. And I mean, I LIKE the standard MCU stuff. But I'm glad that they dared to not dip into that well too quickly and just really lean on the sitcom homage stuff - I think it makes the future episodes stronger.

I think y'all are crazy and are just fellating the first episode being what it is to justify you liking it a ton. lol Like, if you like it that's totally fine, but there's no reason for it to be an entire episode that if you remove it, you lose absolutely nothing in the series. It's not a great move and like Aecioo said, it's not brave. It's just poorly paced. You can keep the episode surreal while also including things to intrigue the audience. If any other show did something like this for their first episode, it would be wildly panned for not roping the audience in enough.

Like I said though, this series does a lot of good stuff and I'm really enjoying it, and they clearly have a solid handle on writing. But that first episode is just fluff and a bad choice, considering the backlash they've received.

I mean I could say the same thing about people fellating the 4th episode for being generic MCU exposition. <_<

But I also think you're wrong, it's important thematically to have more "normal" sitcom episodes before getting too weird, and the first episode (as well as the second, which is so far the best episode) works much better as an actual sitcom than episode three which is structured entirely around a development in the meta-plotline. I also think you're wrong when you compare it to other shows and saying it deserves to be panned. WandaVision's format is super accessible - close to 30m episodes and a miniseries with a small number of episodes - so unlike an hour long drama series it can actually afford to fuck around for an episode without dragging too much.

This is spot on though - there's clearly a lot of hedging going on because they were terrified of this exact reaction. They didn't think MCU fans as a whole would enjoy the sitcom element and I guess they were right.

Couldn't disagree with this assessment more.

The first episode sets the bar for the wonderful performances of Olsen and Bettany and includes some of the best comedic and creepy moments of the show, like the choking scene. Just because the plot doesn't advance at 100mph for the first 20 minutes of the show doesn't mean it has pacing issues - it just means they're laying the groundwork for what's to come. They have to establish an actual status quo before they start tearing it down in every subsequent episode.

I feel like people forget that in the age of binge watching.

Also don't know what backlash you're talking about.

Well first, you assume when I say it doesn't have anything to dig into, I mean that I wanted it to get weird. It doesn't have to get weird. It's just generic sitcom stuff. Doesn't have a lot of character work in it. It establishes things at a very base level. I felt it drug on because I just didn't care about the characters at all in this universe and it was just generic 50's sitcom hijinx. It just didn't have a lot there. If you enjoyed it, power to you. But I think claiming it's something brilliant is just weird.

disagree. if you don't watch episode 1, you miss a ton of clues/easter eggs.

that being said, i do agree that this episode wasn't that great. i'm fine with the '50s sitcom style but... i didn't think this episode was that funny? like, i've seen several episodes of i love lucy i thought were way funnier than this. with how much people were hyping how this episode "nailed" it, i was disappointed. they nailed the style, sure, but the substance wasn't that strong.

Ep 5:
Oh my godddddddddddddddddddd "They recast Pietro?" Ahahahahahaha

Other things:
That Norm scene was so amazingly disturbing. The whole "they're in pain" thing turns things up a notch. Wanda angrily confronting SWORD was great too. I'm loving her being villainous.

I also loved the schmaltzy 80s sitcom music whenever dramatic moments happen.

Wanda and Vision facing off each other was so tense

Can't say I approve saying "Can I borrow your gun?" to an FBI agent and then grabbing it and firing a bunch of shots before they can even respond. Seems like a poor decision.

Im seriously so happy that this show turned out to be good. Wanda and especially Vision have been pretty underutilized in the movies (to the point that I always wonder if anyone who didnt read comics actually cares about them), so its really awesome that theyre getting such a strong showcase now.

Its really making me appreciate Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany so much more too.

now I just hope they can execute the Hawkeye series anywhere near this well

I dont think that was a fact known to the public in the comics so even if they decide its true, SWORD might not know about it

but also it has been retconned in the last decade, he is not their father and they are not mutants but rather products of experimentation by the High Evolutionary

given that the character and the source of her power was established in the MCU before they had access to X-Men stuff Im guessing they just sidestep the entire thing

don't get why they would give a different name for the dad then, though. if they don't know, shouldn't they say "father unknown"? unless they just have incorrect information for some reason, i guess.
