OHHHH so the rope was used to actually strangle Ibuki. Thatrequires a bit of strength I think. So is it Mikan? It has to be Mikan right? All the clues points to her. But then why is Nagito interrupting? HM HM HMMM
THE DECISIVE CLUE. If you look at the description of the rope it says according to Mikan, there is no doubt that the cause of Ibukis death was her hanging herself. OHHHH. Nice job, Nagito. Dunno why youre helping us. But nice job, boo.
This wouldve been a much, much cooler twist if the previous evidence didnt point directly to Mikan. Like leave some ambiguity and the Nagito jumps in and this twist hits us like a slap in the face. We already knew it was Mikan and we proved it was Mikan and then Nagito was like HOLD ON I KNOW WHO THE KILLER IS
I get that this is the DECISIVE CLUE and all, but uh Mikan is the Ultimate Nurse not the Ultimate Forensic Investigator or Ultimate Mortician. She may not be able to tell the difference between hanging and strangulation by external bruising, guys.

Hajime is still trying to push forward to figure out who the killer is. He is a much better protagonist than forgettable DR1 protagonist whatever his name was. Ive said this several times already, but I just want to remind everyone.

The final non-stop debate here is pretty clever (well, at least it seems like it should be final). I had to figure out the killers mistake and it actually took some thinking to figure out the camera angle was off. It is really good when the game pulls something like this off, but too many of the non-stop debates are really evident so I wish there were more like this one.

This final comic book scene is weirdly short. There is only two banks of clues and they dont have us go over the stuff that happened before Hajime saw the video. I wonder if they were worried it would be too complex or something.
Also something I just thought of: if Mikan had the camera but not the monitor, how did she know when Hajime turned it on? What if Hajime didnt notice the blinking light right away? And how did she know when hed run off so she could quickly follow?
AND AND wait a minute. So she fakes her death, cleans up the conference room, runs to the music venue, cleans the music venue, breaks the camera, breaks the pencil, seals the door, then manages to find herself a way to sneak back in with Fuyuhiko in the time span it takes Hajime to run to the hotel and back? I dunno that time line seems super sketchy, man.
Uh oh Mikan is getting all horny talking about despair. Is she the Ultimate Despair Pt. 2? HOW DO WE KEEP LETTING THESE SLEEPER AGENTS INTO THE SCHOOL THE ADMISSIONS BOARD NEEDS TO BE FIRED

This will be the last time I bring this up (hopefully) because you're probably sick of hearing it by now, but something great about the first game is the whole it could be anyone" thing. Here, in case two the motive was one person's sister had died and another person covered it up and here in case three only one person caught a make you turn into a crazy murdering psychopath disease. Thats lazy writing, even going beyond the whole stupid magically disease that can do whatever it wants thing.
No, super seriously, this is dumb. I dont like this. This is undermining one of the best parts of the first game. Ill give you a disease that makes you a murderer isnt the same thing as hey if you guys dont start killing each other I will reveal an embarrassing secret about each of you.
Shes a human who deserves to be called the Ultimate Despair! hey psst Nagito I think that name is trademarked.
Oh, also this is why Nagito was so determined. Mikan was killing for the sake of despair and not the sake of hope. Man, killers these days being all selfish and not doing those hope-full (not to be confused with hopeful) murders.
Mikan stops laughing like a crazy person to tell us all she committed these murders for the sake of her BELOVED. Who is her beloved? Henry Kissinger. Yeah, I know. Weird.
Hm we dont get any clues as to who her BELOVED is other than they are no longer alive. So maybe Junko? Is Mikan the spy or whatever that snuck in to mess with us?
Somethingweird is going on. Thanks to that disease, I was able to remember my beloved. Im not quite sure what that means. But I feel like this whole scene with Mikan is suddenly super important to the overall plot.

and she refuses to tell us. Mikan you butt why do you hate us? She even calls for her execution to start moving while everyone is still talking to her. Cold blooded man.
Her execution isI dont know what this is. Im missing something here. Monokuma has a huge syringe that he injects intoa rocket ship arm. And Mikan is on that arm, riding it a bit like Dr. Strangelove and the bomb. And then she disappears into space. Um. Ok. I dunno what this is supposed to be. But you do see MIkans butt like one more time, so maybe that was the point of this.
This is actually kind of interesting. I did (and still do) hate this magic despair disease that does anything the story needs it to, but the group grappling with Mikan not being the Mikan they thought they knew made for some interesting end of case dialogue.
Monokuma has prepared a special event for us to help us feel better. I can only assume it is somehow even worse than murder high school death simulator 2.0.
Sonia is really growing on me as a character. She is this weirdly human component to the group that almost feels out of place but that the game desperately needs. Everyone else is excited because Nekomaru may be coming back but shes the one thats like you know it is kind of hard to get excited considering three of our friends literally just died and its lines like that that help the game stay just enough grounded in reality and make the characters feel like humans instead of the caricatures they risk becoming.
Oh Nekomaru is a robot. Sorry that choking sound you hear is the game strangling out the last remaining shred of realism the game had been clinging to.
Murder Plot Grade: C. Okay, so I at least get what shes going for here. And she did a decent enough job thinking on the fly considering Hiyoko wandered in while she was in the midst of murdering someone. But, again, Im taking a lot of points off because she somehow didnt think of Ibuki count to a thousand and then go hang yourself ok? Also, lets say things went perfectly and Ibuki fake hung herself without Hiyoko getting slashed and we all believe she hung herself and Nagito doesnt figure out the truth. Isnt MIkan the number one suspect anyway? Hey Ibuki went and hung herself based on the orders of someone else. Who was the only person that had access to her at all times and couldve told her to do this. Like, oops. Best case scenario you have to explain why the person that was under your sole supervision and no one else's went and hung themselves because someone told them to. You're already suspect number one in that scenario. ALSO everyone immediately thought someone told Ibuki to kill herself right? So why the hell does Mikan need an alibi during the exact second she was supposedly hanging herself? She literally doesnt need to be there for that. Its a crime that doesnt need the person right there to commit it. Hey someone detonated a remote bomb and I wasnt at the exact spot where the bomb went off so it couldnt be me, right guys? I feel like Hiyoko being there actually helped her, and that was completely unplanned and by accident. Sorry, Mikan, but for someone that is a crazy lunatic, I expected better.

10. Mikan It is at a point now where there are only a couple of people left they could kill off and I wouldnt really care. Good cast! Mikan was interesting, and I like the idea that oh big stuff was happening between the time they started school and lost their memories. And I liked both sides of her character. Her panicked, ditzy comic relief character worked well as did her nightmare fuel dead eyed psychopath character, and I liked how we saw it swing between the two in this case. Still BS Monokuma is basically picking who the killers are at this point, though. RIP Mikan. NOW WHO WILL FLASH US BUTT?
9. Nekomaru I hate this. Honestly, this is just wishful thinking that he dies next chapter. I mean, Danganronpa was definitely weird and quirky, but not hey this dude is a robot now quirky. I actually liked him before, but now hes just going to be a constant reminder that this game has gone off the rails. Please, leave, Nekomaru and bring your constant bowel movements with you.
8. Akane Akane is the last character that I just feel absolutely nothing for. She doesnt really have a quirk. She doesnt have a strong personality. Shes just sort of there, taking up space that I wish like four other dead characters were currently taking. Shes essentially a sandbag that someone drew volleyball tits on, and I just cant imagine shell make it to the end. There were characters in the first game that lived that I didnt like, but I at least felt something about them.
7. Kazuichi I like Kazuichi, but he just doesnt really have a role. He has this bizarre super obsession with Sonia, but hes very much a background player still. When your characters biggest defining trait depends on another, more developed character, it isnt a great sign. Hes also the kind of dude I could see snapping. I feel like half of his animations are him losing his mind and if Monokuma isnt just picking out killers at a hat next chapter, this is one of the few people left I could see snapping and murdering someone.
6. Nagito It was kind of cool to see useful Nagito! Im sure hell be right back to being a total useless psychopath next chapter. But honestly, I like useless psychopath Nagito. I need that little bit of extra chaos in my life.
5. Hajime Ok. Ok. Hear me out. I got a theory. Mikan was clearly aligned with Junko in some way, having forgotten it when she got to the island but remembering due to the Monokuma murder memory juice or whatever. But she kept talking about this person she loved and changed her and dedicated her life too. So that could be Junko, sure, but then why not mention her by name? I think her mystery murder waifu is actually a husband-u and that person is Hajime. She was always crazy affectionate to him, and once she came down with the memory disease she kept climbing in Hajimes bed. Plus an amnesiac main character who turns out to be the secret big bad all along is totally in this games wheelhouse. I suspect a final chapter where you play as Chiaki against BIG BAD HAJIME.
4. Gundham I feel like our final group needs one dedicated weirdo. Last game had two weirdos survive and now all the really weird characters are DEAD. Or a robot that we just wish was dead. So, ride with me into the sunset, you glorious hamster loving weirdo.
3. Sonia Sonia is like the good solid heart of the group at the moment. Shes competent without taking over and has this persistent positivity, but not in the Nagito HOPE OH MY GOSH I WANT TO LATHER MYSELF IN HOPE NGHHHHH kind of way. I liked her tribute to the fallen at the end of this chapter too before going to go find Nekomaru. Shes got this role that no one else can really fill so I think shes safe.
2. Fuyuhiko Fuyuhiko is borderline untouchable, sadly. Theyre going for the redemption arc now that Peko is dead but it just isnt working for me at the moment. He went from awful to boring. But hes had the most growth and will likely be safe from here on out. Of course I thought the same thing about Hiyoko so what do I know! I do feel like if there was a chapter for him to betray us, it would've been this one so I'm guessing he's safe.
1. Chiaki Chiaki now takes the dreaded number one spot on my list. She seems to have everything going for her in terms of characteristics this series likes to make survivors out of. So of course that means shell likely be dead next chapter RIP RIP RIP.

Oh, and also: this is where the game goes all out. Chapter 4 until the end completely crushes the first half of the game. Every case from here on at least has an argument for being a franchise great.
Chapter 3 Wrap Up And Autopsy I'm a bit torn right now because I feel like I like the story and I'm really invested in it but also...I kinda don't like the story so far? Part of it was inflated expectations because basically everyone I've talked to was like "yes DR2>>>DR1 for sure" and I don't know if I'm quite there yet. I love the cast and there are parts that are great, but then I get stuff like robot Nekomaru and mysterious wonder disease that does whatever the plot needs to do and I'm kinda annoyed. After case 2 I was like "well ok at least that's over with now case 3 will turn things around" and now I'm like "well ok at least that's over with now case 4 will turn things around" and I'm running out of cases.
The setup up to Case 3 also felt less...joyful? Than the last two cases, at least. Part of it is the cast is shrinking are we're starting to lose fun characters, but part of it was that I didn't like the set up as much, I guess. Like case 2 was about friendship and Kazuichi trying to set up a pervert watch party and the vibe was just kind of fun, up until the murder. Here the despair disease occupied such a huge chunk of the chapter that it kinda got in the way of the character interactions a little bit.
I think I still preferred this over case 2 as at least things weren't immediately obvious. Psycho Mikan was a lot of fun and Nagito was great in the trial as well. Sonia and Chiaki too. And even Akane had her best chapter here, which was nice. I guess I really enjoyed the ride of chapter 3 even if I didn't like the overarching setup. The despair disease was dumb, but the writing was good enough that I was still interested in what was going on, if that makes sense.
I'm still trying to figure out why Mikan killed in the way she did. If you were going to kill a person that would do whatever you told them to, taking her somewhere to strangle yourself seems like not the best idea. Couldn't you have her slit her throat as soon as someone walked in the room? Wouldn't that create the same level of alibi? I don't understand how a person that could be programmed into killing themselves, and who you made it look like had done exactly that, needed a fake replication of her suicide to get a witness. Stay with Hajime the entire morning, tell her to go to the music venue and kill herself as soon the door opened, and boom. Ya got witnesses.
Again though...Mikan you're going to be the top suspect here regardless. She does whatever people tell her to and she's with you the entire time. Even Akane should be able to see the connection there!
My new current pet theory is Mikan is Junko's underling and so is...HAJIME. Her secret boo. Also there was that aside about how "the reserve students helped lead an uprising to cause the most horrible awful poopy gross yucky event in human history this chapter. OH and look how convenient Hajime can't even remember what his ability is. Maybe it is because HE DOESN'T HAVE ONE.
So Mikan and Hajime somehow snuck themselves in? To sabotage things? But then had their memories erased and forgot they were there to sabotage things. Does that...make sense? I feel like that's a major oversight in their plan since they wouldn't remember to do the thing they went there to do. But something is definitely up with Hajime. I just don't know for sure what yet.
I think if I was tiering the characters now it would be: Great characters who better not die - Sonia, Chiaki, Gundham, Nagito Good characters who I still don't want to die - Hajime, Kazuichi Ok characters who are growing on me a little bit - Akane, Fuyuhiko Used to be good character who is now a weird robot - Nekomaru
So fingers crossed we get some names culled from the bottom next chapter and not the top!

Huh. I really am the weirdo here. Not that I didn't like Ibuki (because I did!) but I thought both Hiyoko and Mikan were fun for different reasons. This is a great cast overall and honestly I think by the end of the game if I rank them all the characters from DR1 and DR2 together, there might only be one DR2 character in the bottom seven or so.

Ok these are both reassuring, at least. I was finishing the game regardless, but I wouldn't be lying if about half way through this chapter alarm bells started going off in my head. Based on what I know the general consensus to be, I'm definitely not enjoying the game as much as I felt like I should be. But maybe we just have a slow start here.

anyway, don't take DR too seriously - any of it. the overarching storyline has always been dumb, especially to set up (and often execute) the murders!
nagito and chiaki taking over (but giving hajime space) the final stretch of trial 2-3 is the absolute best
I fully understand not taking it too seriously, and I mean the literal first scene of the first game is a teddy bear shooting a man into space and a literal skeleton popping out, so the game establishes a baseline for weirdness right away. But I guess I'm willing to excuse some stylized weirdness or general silliness (the executions and the overarching plot of despair taking over everything etc etc) but there are some aspects of logical consistency that just need to be applied regardless of how crazy the game wants to be. I think "HEY I AM A ROBOT NOW" crosses that line. I'll wait for the game to finish before commenting more, but to me that is difference than the stuff that is sort of baked into Danganronpa from the start.

Chapter 4 Daily Life Don't Call It A COMEBACK But I'm Already Enjoying This More Than Either Of The Last Two Chapters
Robo-Nekomaru (mechamaru?) is excited and hes here to party. The names NEKOMARU NIDAI!!! Ive been reborn in the rivers of hellllllllllllllll!!! No, Nekomaru, that was probably just Detroit.

Nekomaru looks a bit like the robot devil to me for some reason.
Nekomaru is confused why everyone is looking at him weird. After all, hes just a giant robot wearing a leather jacket. Whats so weird about that, guys?
Sonia summarizes the situation better than I can: KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Hey guys if Monokuma can make a robot body for Nekomaru, what is to stop him from making an AI with Nekomarus personality? That makes more sense thanwhatever this is. Like I dont even know what this is supposed to be. Is Nekomarus brain in there somewhere? Or is this a frosty the snowman situation where Monokuma put Nekomarus jacket on the robot and it came to life?
Once again Akane gets mad and gets ready to attack Monokuma and once again Monokuma fires off a bazooka at her and once again Nekomaru gets in the way. Now Monokuma is going to have to rebuild him as a double robot.
Nekomaru completely no sells the bazooka shot and emerges from the smoke flexing and hip thrusting. Monokuma you might have messed up by making Nekomaru unkillable you realize.
Kazuichi is blown away by this technology. Can you let me disassemble you and show me your insides!? Why do I get the feeling this isnt the first time Kazuichi has said that to someone?
Hm so Nekomaru says if he gets disassembled he will die. This is going to come up at some point again I think.
Monokuma jumps in to loudly state that if Nekomaru dies in this state, it still counts as murder. Yup ok so this dude is dying 100% at some point.
Breakfast the next morning is totally normal. We all eat our breakfast while a giant, 9 foot metallic monster sits nearby talking about bowel movements he cant have.
Chiaki calls Nekomaru Mechamaru so that is 100% the name were going with from now on, right?
Kazuichi again wants to see Nekomarus insides and no he cant ask that in a less creepy way, he doesnt know how.
NOOOOOOO MEANS NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Again why do I have the feeling this isnt the first time someone has tearfully screamed this at Kazuichi?
Gudham and Nagito ignore the giant robot to ponder about what Mikan meant by her beloved. Gundham goes back to her parting words and they do seem to indicate that the person she was talking about is either dead or does not exist in this world as Gundham put it. This actually makes a lot of sense. So that might eliminate my theory as Hajime as the beloved, huh?
Mechamaru scolds us for believing the World Ender/Future Foundation organization actually exists. Theres obviously something wrong with you if you believe in something so unrealistic says the giant robot man that just finished eating his breakfast of my last shred of my suspension of disbelief. Obviously this is meant to be a joke. Ha ha guys very funny can we go back to the first games style of not having weird robot characters?
Nagito wants to find the traitor that is working for the Future Foundation. That sounds just like something someone who is trying to hide the fact they are the traitor would say!
Nagito points out that he is terrible and no one would ever want him in their group. You know he actually makes a good point
Now Nagito theorizes that it must be me, Hajime! Why? Because Im the one people least suspect. FOOL! Anyone with half a brain would suspect the person you least suspect first. Which is why I know the traitor isPhyllis. The person I most medium-ly suspect.
Actually using Dwights theory my order of suspicion from most to least would probably be Hajime Sonia Fuyuhiko - Kazuichi Gundham - Chiaki - Akane Nagito Nekomaru, meaning the culprit must beGUNDHAM TANAKA. I knew it!
If were basing this on an outsider hiding among a group of Ultimates, Hajime should be doubted right away. Dang I actually forgot about that part of it. Okay, okay. Fuyuhiko can 100% be removed from that list because he was in the Twilight Syndrome murder case thing and is confirmed as actually going to the school. So that changes my list up to Hajime Sonia Kazuichi Gundham Chiaki Akane Nagito Nekomaru Fuyuhiko. So the real culprit is CHIAKI I FORGOT YOUR LAST NAME BECAUSE YOU NEVER YELL IT LIKE A WEIRDO. I knew it!
Sonia and Mechamaru want us to stop fighting about this because it is dumb to argue over and also Nagito is being a crazy person. Mechamaru tries to stop the tension by showing us his new function: his eyes dispense Cola. no that isnt a joke.
SERIOUSLY WHAT IS GOING ON IN THIS GAME RIGHT NOW?
Monomi shows up to comment on Mechamarus changes and everyone yells at her to go away because she sucks. Ill kill you until you die from it, you stupid rabbit! I really like that threat for some reason.
Monomi is like hey guys I opened an island for you lets explore!!!!! and everyone points out that going to new islands just keeps getting people killed so she can bugger off. Good thinking guys.
Monokuma shows up and promises info on the Future Foundation, our student profiles, and ship parts on the new island if we just go explore it. Hey guys we should definitely trust the homicidal bear that keeps getting our friends killed.

So the clock is tied to his body and keeps super accurate time and cannot be altered. So Mechamaru is 100% going to die and this clock is going to record his precise time of death, right?
I am a Time LordI am able to sense the passage of time Yeah we can all do that Mechamaru. Sensing time passing doesnt make you a time lord it just means you are a person. Could you not sense the passage of time before?
Apparently Monokuma and Monomi are terrified of mice and cannot go into the big castle here because of the mice decorations. Quick, everyone, lets hide in a Chuck-E-Cheese!

He says he needs the blood of a virgin to be offered up as sacrifice, and Sonia is sad because that means her blood cannot be used. OH BABY. Our prize for riding on the rollercoaster is a file. It details the events of the first game. Everyone is SHOCKED Byakuya is in there. Hey guys you shouldve played the first game, we all knew this from the beginning.
Monokuma wont tell us exactly how these two killing trips are linked, but that the secret was in our deleted memories the Future Foundation took from us and he cant give them back. Boo man I want my endgame spoilers now.
Monokuma promises all our other goodies are inside the funhouse and we, like morons, line up to take the train into it. I highly doubt he just wanted to give you guys a fun time at an amusement park here, guys. Theres something up with this and youre going to get us murdered.
And of course we immediately get gassed. Oh jeez if only we had someone with us who was a giant nine foot metal monster and immune to sleeping gas. MECHAMARU CARRY US TO SAFETY
We wake up in a bright red strawberry room so Im guessing Mechamaru was a failure. Whats the point of having a robo-friend if they arent going to do robo-friend things?
Monokuma hands over the floor plans to the place and tells us we arent allowed to leave until someone commits a murder. Being bored of living in a funhouse isnt quite as diabolical as some of your other motivations, but okay sure lets do this.
How foolish of meif only Id erected a magic barrier I wouldnt have had to breathe in that gas! DAMMIT GUNDHAM if weve told you once weve told you a thousand times. Always erect your magic barriers. Always. Why not have a magic barrier up if you can generate one?
I let my guard down and ended up falling asleep! Mechamaru did you just take a nap of your own accord because thats what youre making it sound like.
Oh ok so someone pressed his big magic GO TO SLEEP button on the back of his neck. That makes a bit more sense than robo-napping.
We all split up to go exploring. Fuyuhiko wants to go with Akane to talk about something. I can only assume its about getting a piggy back ride so he can see the toys on the high shelf like he always wanted to.
Kazuichi doesnt want to go with me because he is afraid Im the traitor and that he doesnt know the real me. You knowfair. That hurts, but fair. I dont even know the real me so I get it man. OH JEEZ NOW I DONT WANT TO BE ALONE WITH ME TAKE ME WITH YOU.
Ok so I get paired up with Mechamaru because no one likes us. Thats fine guys. My feeling arent hurt. Ill just WAAAAAAAAAAAH WHY DOES NO ONE LIKE ME
While exploring, we find Fuyuhiko and Akane talking in one of the rooms. Hes trying to connect with her since both of them lost someone who was protecting them. Akane repeatedly acts confused and Im not sure if she just doesnt want to talk about it or is a complete moron and forgot what happened two days ago.
Theres a phone in the lounge. There is only one button on it and it is a picture of some grapes. Its probably like the Bat-phone but instead of summoning Batman it summonsTHE GRAPIST HEY EVERYONE ITS TIME TO GET GRAPED you know what lets workshop that name a little more

Mechamaru is standing in front of the bathrooms bemoaning the fact he cant take a good shit any more. On the plus side though you can get your oil changed for like $20 at Jiffy Lube.
There is something on the first floor called the Final Dead Room and we get some sort of ultimate weapon if we make it through the life-threatening game inside. Im sure this will be in no way connected to the case and it isnt suspicious or strange in any way.
Chiaki is standing around trying to figure out the mystery of why they made this the Strawberry building and not something like Tangerine or Apples. Chiaki we have like 100 different mysteries that are more important to solve than this one, get your act together lady.
While exploring we find a grape themed elevator and a grape themed door at the end of the big cylindrical room at the bottom of the first floor. Either there is some sort of grape house nearby or they ran out of strawberry themed objects at the last second and Monokuma had to make due with what was left.
Im now imaging this scene where the construction guys show up with an elevator door with a grape drawn on it and Monokuma is just like No, ugh, I said strawberry. I need a strawberry door. Look pal we didnt have no strawberry. We can just take this back if ya dont want it. Look, Ive got something going on in a week here, so whatever, fine. Just, just put in the grape door for now. Even Monokuma has no power over the strength of union laborers.
Everyone is gathered by the elevator because Monokuma is here and they all comment on how Monokuma has something he wants to say. Well, except for Akane who confusedly mutters something about how she thinks Fuyuhiko was trying to flirt with her which actually made me laugh out loud. Akane you big beautiful dope, go sit in the corner. Youre not going to be any help from here on out, I dont think.
Were taking the elevator to grape house! Man oh man do I hope that g is supposed to be there.
We take an elevator and Kazuichi comments on how it is super smooth and hes impressed. Akane hypothesizes the elevator isnt actually moving! Akane, what did I just say about sitting in the corner?
Grape house is essentially the same thing as strawberry house but grape-y. Monokuma needs a new interior decorator.
We also find the TRUE motive this time: there is no food in the funhouse. So if we dont kill someone well all starve to death. That seemsuh, lazy. Monokuma your motives this time suck, get your act together.
Hey theres a statue of Sakura here! Nice. It has a nameplate that says Ogre. Thats less nice.
We try to open our way into grape tower, but they make a big point about how long it takes for the door to open and how it doesnt open right away like Strawberry Tower. I feel like thats probably important but I cant possibly think of a reason why.
There is a Strawberry door in the back of the tower, but when Mechamaru goes to try it Chiaki shows up and does her best Phoenix Wright HOLD IT to stop the shenanagins.
Chiaki has figured out the funhouses structure! She gives Hajime a hint but were too dumb to figure it out. Try again with more hints. Actually, just say what it is.
Everyone shows up and rudely interrupts Chiaki. Akane is panicking because there is definitely no food. Kazuichis brilliant idea is to eat Gundhams hamsters. Dude weve been here five minutes, pull yourself together.
Sonia calls Kazuichi an imbecile. Hey lady great use of the word imbecile. Ive forgotten about that word but Ill make sure I use it tomorrow somehow.

There is a phone on the second floor with a strawberry symbol that likely connects to the other phone we found. Again, I have no idea how, but this is absolutely going to be tied into the murder in some way. Someone will use it as an alibi or will be calling for help or something.
There is a Monokuma Archive on the third floor and Nagito is saying we DO NOT need to go there EVER. Ya ok Ill show you Im gonna go there right away. Wait isnt this how Scar lured Simba into the Elephant Graveyard?

Chiaki went back to Strawberry house forreasonsbut when she was there, the door to Strawberry Tower shut and wouldnt reopen after we went in. So only one door can open at a time, with the other door being locked once one is open. Again, this seems important and odd to mention so specifically, so it is DEFINITELY going to be tied into the case.
Nagito actually has a good idea. WHAT IS HAPPENING? He suggests testing the towers being the same by leaving behind something, going to the other tower and seeing if it is still on the floor. Good plan, I like that plan.
Gundham stops us from opening the door so he can show us his SKILL. His hamsters have the power toPRESS BUTTONS. Oh cool yeah its not like any of us could do that with our hands so great job there man.

Two interesting things during free time. One: I cant hang out with Akane. No idea why. She just refuses to unless I feed her. Two: there is a hidden Monokuma in Mechamarus room. I only bring this up because in two previous cases, the hidden Monokuma was in the room of a person who died. Oh wait actually technically 3/3 because we did find a hidden Monokuma in the room Hiyoko was sleeping in too I think. UH OH MECHAMARU NOT LOOKING GOOD.
Mechamaru is dying that is my STONE COLD SUPRAK LOCK of the case.
Also, if he commits suicide I want BONUS cool points because I called the case four death being suicide two cases ago.
I hang out with Fuyuhiko instead since Im just trying to hang out with my least favorite characters now and save my favs for end game stuff. Fuyuhiko is as boring as Id expect. He does drop information that his little sister was the Ultimate Little Sister which just sounds fake. How would they even test that?
Also: And she got an insane number of contracts from hand towel companies, yknow? No man I dont know. What the hell is that supposed to mean? Is that code for something? Monokuma wants us to get to the big tower at 7 AM for a special program. Unless this program involves food man I think Ill pass.

Monokuma forces us to do Tai Chi most likely in an effort to make us even more tired. So uh I know he cant kill us directly since that was in the rules. So where does starving everyone to death fit in with those guidelines? Nobody gonna ask him about this? He rebuilt Mechamaru as a robot since he accidentally killed him when he shouldnt so I feel like he cant just let us all die here. Right?
We all contemplate if it is better to starve to death or wait for one of our friends to murder another. Kazuichi starts going crazy and accuses me of getting food from the Future Foundation. Chaos ensues and it seems like were getting close to cracking. FREE TIME! Uh yeah Hajime Im not sure everyone is going to be down for a hangout just now.
Hajime decides the exit must be hidden in the final dead room after muttering something incoherent about REDRUM. The hunger is getting to him. Chiaki intercepts and says there is no exit. Only a weapon. She sort of leads me away and Hajime is too tired to fight.
There is a weird thunk in the middle of the night that wakes me up. Probably a bad sign. Probably a dead person. Oh well back to naps!
On our way to Monokuma Tai Chi, Sonia stops to inquire as to why my face is made out of cheese and if she may take just a little nibble. HELP HELP I NEED AN ADULT

9. Nekomaru Nekomaru makes history as the first character in Danganronpa history to tie twice. RIP Nekomaru. Your scary pants bulge and your propensity to yell about shitting will be missed. It is actually kind of weird because I was getting used to robot Nekomaru. I have absolutely no clue what the hell the point of this was to 1) kill him 2) bring him back as a robot and then 3) kill him immediately afterwards. That is weird and pointless and I have no clue what the point of all this even was. He wound up being one of my favorite male characters in this game, regardless of how much titanium his body was made out of, so I'll miss him. Honestly, at this point I'm basically just hoping for Fuyuhiko to die because I like all the remaining characters. ALSO ALSO I'll talk about this more in the post chapter musings.write up, but my current theory is SUICIDE. So there is a chance no one else gets ganked this chapter, which is exciting.
8. Kazuichi I dont have any guesses at all right now. I'm leaning suicide, but if it isn't suicide, I think Kazuichi is probably the most likely culprit. Kazuichi is just oddly sort of there and has been slowly circling the drain of insanity. Like he thinks Im the traitor and loses his mind about it, but then during the last free time hes like nah were cool nevermind all that. Hes had this odd tension with Sonia lately especially since she was hanging out with Gundham. Plus hes one of the least intereating members of the cast left. They killed off a couple of the big names last chapter so I feel like this one they might be culling the side characters a bit.
7. Akane There isnt much of a reason to suspect Akane either, but she was just sparring with Nekomaru the day before. There was no one else I could talk to, but Akane and Nekomaru were downstairs sparring and she then asked him to go away with her so he could do IT with electricity. As hot as that sounds, it couldve been a trap. On the other hand though shes really dumb. Without any real clues yet I just feel like that scene may have been important for some reason. Then again she is clearly loves Nekomaru more than anyone else in the cast, so I don't think it makes a lot of sense from a character perspective.
6. Gundham Gundham is the last character that I think had any real chance to have done it. Not because hes suspicious or anything, but just because everyone else it doesnt really make a ton of sense for their character. These other people have well established arcs and roles and Gundham is just the lovable weirdo with the hamsters.
5. Nagito Would Nagito kill someone because of his hope boner and how it might inspire everyone to greater heights? No, I dont think so. Hes been very clear he wants to GET murdered not murder someone else for his crazy pants hope thing. Hes probably in the clear.
4. Sonia A couple of things about Sonia. First, shes extra safe now since Mikan went crazy. I dont think theyd do the whole sweet innocent person is a lunatic thing twice. Second, there is no way she could kill Mechamaru. There is a huge hammer next to him that weighs roughly the same as Sonia. She was delirious from hunger and trying to eat me. I dont think the 90 pound lady suffering from hallucinations was able to pull of the murder of a metallic monster ten times her size.
3. Fuyuhiko It is sort of annoying that Fuyuhiko is here because Im almost positive he isnt going to die from here on out. He went through this whole redemption arc and he hasnt quite wrapped that up yet. He especially isnt going to kill anyone since he went through the whole oh no I cant believe Peko is dead boo hoo scene.
2. Hajime I know I didnt do it. I got a great alibi: me. Aw yeah best alibi. Hopefully Hajime doesnt die of hunger pain and we can finish this case.
1. Chiaki She stopped me from going through to get the super secret weapon. MAYBE YOU SHOULDVE STOPPED THE ACTUAL MURDERER FROM DOING THE SAME THING. Nah, its fine, were cool. I know youre not the murderer. Youre the only one that helps me during the trial consistently so theyre not going to take you away just yet.

Final Chapter 4 Daily Life Wrap Up Thoughts and HOT PREDIX You know, it is getting easier and easier for me to write up those power rankings because of how the cast list is shrinking and that makes me sad.
Ok. Ok ok ok. So I think this was a SUICIDE. Again, there is something odd going on about parallels between cases in this game and the corresponding cases from the last game. I don't know what or why or who or when or which or WHERE OR WHATEVER. But the last chapter as a double murder absolutely solidified this for me. Chapter 4 was the suicide case last game (also best case last game don't @ me bro) and this would make sense as the suicide case this chapter.
MORE importantly though, Sonia made a big stink about twice giving us the laws of robotics. One was don't kill and two was obey humans and three was self protection. I think they did this because it relates to the case. And the way it relates to the case is Nekomaru was trying to kill himself so everyone else could live. I have no clue how he did this yet but it makes sense for his character since he is all about supporting everyone and making sure they succeed and thrive, and it also makes sense for Sonia to lay out exactly how robots work if it was going to impact this case in some way. But, calling it now, Nekomaru offed himself
Most importantly, man did I like this set up better than the last two cases. "You're going to starve to death" isn't perhaps the best motivator, but it was certainly better than the last two where he just hand picked who was going to die. The set up was also just a lot more fun, and I liked them being trapped in this enclosed space while the suddenly grew more delirious and started to turn on each other. I've heard a couple times now that this is where the game really turns around so I'm excited to power through some more tonight.
Weirdly, I wound up not minding Nekomaru as a robot all that much. I can't quite explain it, but after a while I was just sort of going along with it and I wasn't as annoyed. Like "oh yeah of course he's a robot now". What doesn't quite make sense is the why of it all. Is the game just being weird? I know this is a series that loves being weird, but usually there is a reason for the weirdness. It is bizarre for his to come back and then just be killed off right away. Are they just showing us what Monokuma can do? I dunno.
I think I was too hard on Akane. She's been growing on me and there were a couple times this chapter she actually made me laugh. I was comparing her to Hina too much and she feels less complex than here, but she does have a fun role as the lovable idiot like Hiro from the last game. That she pulls off fairly well and I've been noticing that more the last couple of chapters. I'll probably bump her up to good character status, leaving literally only Fuyuhiko now as the living character that I'm not particularly a fan of.
This means literally nothing, but I noticed while looking through the cast list that they have the characters organized by 3 rows of 5 on the map screen. The entire bottom row is dead and the entire middle row is alive. I can't remember who was left on the top row, but I'd be worried if I was them.

Since it's been brought up, Ultra Despair Girls would technically need to come before the DR3 anime. It's not, like, critical or anything, but it is the correct order of operations. It's all just busy work before getting to V3 anyways.

Chapter 4 Deadly Life Deadly Thoughts Deadly Musings
Ok so first off Nekomarus body is in terrible shape. Hes leaking some sort of blue Kool-Aid that is probably blueberry flavored. He has a huge dent in his head which is also completely removed from his body. His foot has fallen off. Also the dude just sort of looks sad. Poor Nekomaru.
Im trying to think who had the sort of strength to pull this off. Akane? I feel like thats almost too obvious now. But who else could do this much damage to a robot?
Akane is sobbing and holding on to Nekomarus detached head. Poor Akane. Now who will do IT to you?
Ok I think Im removing Akane from the suspect pool. She seems way too dumb to pull off whatever this was, and she also doesnt seem manipulative enough to have a break down scene here just to throw us off the track.
Also this is all very sad but please put the head down. That is evidence and youre getting it all wet and covered with tears.
STRANGE THINGS THAT ARE PROBABLY CLUES ARE HAPPENING. After we all have post-murder snacks, we notice the guys arent here. Fuyuhiko, Gundham, and Kazuichi are all missing. HMMM. Monokuma scolds us all for missing tai chi. Hey man I was here in time, dont you put that evil on me.
ALSO Akane hears a noise. Sonia asks if it is Nekomaru and Akane tells her to stop being stupid. Akane. Tells someone to stop being stupid. Sonia get yourself a Snickers. Youre not you when youre hungry.
We just start investigating without the guys. SLACKERS. Also I hope there isnt another body or two or three waiting for us later in this investigation
Nekomaru has detachable limbs like one of those cool toys I always wanted while I was growing up. He suffered some HUGE IMPACT and his arms and legs flew off by themselves. Hm ok. Think we can eliminate the hammer as the cause of death unless MECHA-GALLIGER snuck in at some point.
Oh duh there isn't even a blood stain on the hammer. That is the laziest fake murder weapon plant of all time, murderer.
Interestingthe door in the back to Strawberry Hall has a comically large chain on it. So it seems pretty unlikely anyone came from that way. Hajime asks why anyone would need to chain that up. Great question! Especially when the tower wouldnt open from the other side with people in it.
Sonia makes sure to point out that time of death isnt reported in the Monokuma file, and Hajime points out that it wasn't in the last case either because time of death was important to the mystery of the case and MAYBE it is important this time too. Yeah uh huh sure maybe wink wink.
You know, thinking back to like two minutes ago, something I didnt make note of was Monokuma said something along the lines of jeez cant believe everyone missed my class and Hajiime was like everyone that is weird we were here on time RIGHT? before winking at the camera. So I bet you someone did mess with the clocks for some reason that Im not sure of yet.
Sonia also cracks the case that Strawberry Tower and Grape Tower are the same tower. Yeah great job Sonia, we solved this like four days ago.
Chiaki points out there are small rock like fragments under Nekomarus body, but absolutely none on top of his body. Which means...he was killed in a gravel quarry? Or something. I dont know please halp me.
Chiaki is like well if you dont know what they mean theyre probably not important and then the literal next line is Pillar Fragments have been added to the Truth Bullets. Ok Chiaki theyre important.
Akane is actually more useful than Sonia and reminds Hajime of the weird noise that woke us up in the middle of the night. She even managed to run out and check the time on the clock, which said it was 5:30 AM. This is the most useful Akane has been all game so hooray Akane!
Oh hey Nekomarus blood is on top of the pillar. That isinteresting. Akane does her second useful thing and proves you cant lift it up. Could it be pushed over though? Maybe Nekomaru got squished by the pillar and that was that loud noise that woke up Akane? CASE CLOSED BOYS.

Seriously though this is lazy planting by the murderer. There is a huge blood stain on the pillar but nothing on the hammer. Like, come on. COME ONE MURDERER.

This is actually so suspiciously obviously not the murder weapon that Im thinking it has to be some sort of trap, right? If there is a killer, why would they leave the clean hammer and not attempt to wipe off the pillar? Hm hm hm.
Now that I think about it, robots are definitely unusual Hajime says, eying a Roomba and whispering to it to tell him what its mission is. Robots arent so unusual, man. It is your friends personality being crammed into a robot that dispenses soft serve ice cream that is weird.
Oh another interesting thing. The wire that is used to tie up Nekomaru is tied into a loop at the end. Soooo.was he hung from this? The loop is kind of small, but Im trying to think if there was some way he was tied to the pillar and he pulled it over on top of himself.
So...still suicide? Maybe? I keep going back to that weird, seemingly pointless robot lecture Sonia went into not once but twice during daily life. Sonia went into this huge long speech earlier about the three laws of robotics being something like you cant hurt humans you must obey humans as long as it doesnt conflict with the first law and you must protect yourself as long as it doesnt conflict with the first two laws. So I think we got a law three thing going into effect here where he could hurt himself because technically if he wasnt he was harming humans. Thatd be pretty cool!
but then why this weird set up and the planted hammer and why not some sort of note left behind to let us know what he did? Unless Monokuma stole it. I vaguely remember either him or Hina taking Ogres note last game right?
OH SNAP there is an Ogre statue here. I totally didn't think of the connection for some reason! I bet that was supposed to be a clue as to what would happen this case.
I just Googled and Ogres real name was Sakura. I thought it was but for a second there I couldn't remember if it was Sakura or Sayaka because I always get those two names swapped. Sorry Ogre.
Oh duh the goodnight button on the back of Nekomarus neck. That might be what the killer pressed to get the jump on Nekomaru. Well, if there is a killer and were not looking at another suicide situation.
Chiaki points out that like none of this stuff was anywhere in the house, so the killer mustve gotten it from the final dead room. Well yeah duh I hope Hajime recognized this by now. That giant conspicuous hammer was definitely not something we saw before.
I definitely dont think it was Akane with how sad shes being and how she refuses to leave Nekomarus side. But then who the hell was strong enough to do this sort of damage? Even tipping over the pillar would require a lot of strength, I'd think. Like only her and Nekomaru have any sort of upper body strength here.

Akane is part dog and hears the phone ringing from downstairs. We run up to get it and Fuyuhiko explains that the elevator is broken and the button to Strawberry tower is also broke. So now we know the killer is for sure a luddite so that should narrow things down some.
We cant find Nekomaru anywhere. Do you know anything? Uh uh hold on I think Chiaki wanted to talk to you *hands phone to Chiaki and runs away crying*
We now have to wait and rely on Kazuichi to fix the elevator for us. Hajime then thinks if he doesnt stand out now, when the hell will he, right? Well now were going to have to wait for another body discovering announcement because Kazuichi just got MURDERED.
Fuyuhiko suggests the killer broke these things to interfere with the investigation and Chiaki looks upwards with a so Im assuming that isnt entirely accurate.
Things now switch toNagitos perspective?!?! I suddenly have the urge to yell incoherently about hope and take my pants off.
Ok so this fully eliminates Nagito from consideration because he is thinking in his head if he should help the killer or the rest of the people here. So that shrinks the suspect pool a little more.
The guys all get together and rehash everything they know from the lead up to the murder. Nothing really interesting, although for some reason Nagito didnt hear the huge rumbling noise or the really loud alarm ringing in the lounge. Either this is some sort of clue or Nagito is also the Ultimate Sound Sleeper.
Apparently Fuyuhiko, Kazuichi, and Gundham all heard the ringing. Fuyuhiko was the first one there because he just happened to be by the lounge. At 5:30. In the morning. While he has no energy and is starving to death. Ok cool man Im sure youll elaborate on that later, MURDERER.
Nagito points out the suspicious person in all of thisIS HIM. AHA! GOT ME! TAKE ME AWAY, BOYS.
Fuyuhiko admits he saw Nekomaru wander off from the lounge at 5 AM. Seems like a bold move to admit to be the last person to see Nekomaru alive if he was the killer.
Oh wait. If Fuyuhiko was in the lounge at 5 AM, didnt see anyone come or go until 530 AM when he heard the alarm, I think that clears Gundham and Kazuichi, right?
Oh wait the game just said the three of them have alibis. That probably means one of these three is definitely the killer and they definitely do NOT have alibis.
Kazuichi says the elevator was disabled on the other side by messing with the little safety panel. Who has the expertise and know-how to mess with something like this? HM HM HEY KAZUICHI IM WATCHING YOU.
Ok so someone (Nekomaru) took the elevator to the other side and then disabled the elevator over there. This is more evidence for my suicide theory, right? Like maybe Nekomaru broke the button to strawberry tower and then sabotaged the elevator on the grape side and then killed himself so the rest of us could leave. That would totally be in his character, and it explains why Fuyuhiko saw him wandering off by himself.
Gundham: I can think of only one reason why the killer barred the door to Strawberry Hallthey wished to prevent me from going to the crime scene. Which means the killer was afraid! Afraid of the conclusion promised by my assumptions! Yeah somehow I dont think the killer was intimidated by your ability to yell non-sequiturs about hamsters, man.
Ok so they broke the elevator to go to the other side, chained the door from Strawberry Hall shut, and ripped out the button operating the door. I dont know why, but something about all this seems weird. Like its too much.
Nagito goes to explore the Final Dead Room. Hey guys 999 called and it wants its aesthetic back.
Oh cool a mini-escape room. It is fairly basic, but I did like the puzzles overall (particularly figuring out the key code the second time).

Time for Russian Roulette! Nagito decides he is so super lucky he can do this with five bullets and one blank. Hey man that isnt how luck works and youre going to oh never mind hes fine.
For winning Russian Roulette on the highest (a.k.a. dumbest) difficulty, Monokuma hands over information on the Future Foundation and our school notebook with all of our student profiles. Im hoping Nagitos is just a picture of his face with the caption this dude is nuts.
Monokuma is then like oh how INTERSTING you were the one to find it TEE HEE things are about to get INTERESTING tee hee hee. Hey seriously man just out with it already. The secrets are killing me!
Nagito looks out the window and discovers the ULTIMATE WEAPON and secret of the fun house. Either the fun house is set up in some way we didnt expect or Nagito just saw Godzilla.
Nagito looks at the student files and is all ! I can only assume this will go very badly for everyone involved.
Hajime, can you hear me? Chiaki shouts at me as perspective swaps back. Yeah, uh, sorry, I was just channeling Nagito there for the last 45 minutes.
Yeah, youre right Chiaki, I should probably call Fuyuhiko and see whats going on and AHHH NAGITO!
Hes literally just standing here now. Did no one see him sneak in? Im guessing this means that hatch is some sort of secret passageway connecting the two houses. Which once again puts suspicion on the dudes that were stuck in Strawberry House. Besides Nagito of course, who is clearly innocent because otherwise Monokuma wouldve asked what the hell he was doing in the final dead room again.
Nagito points out how all the cases from the first game are somewhat mirrored by this game. HEY! HES STEALING MY THEORY! I said this like three cases ago you HACK. Nagito casually mentions how the fourth murder in that game was actually a suicide. I said that too like two hour ago, man, and I didnt need Monokumas cheat sheet to get it.

Strangely, no one seems to know that could be a thing. Hajime and Nagito both seem confused that a reserve student was even a possibility, which is strange for people that were such big fans of the school. I guess it is kinda weird that in the first game everyone was like this is a school for ultimates and only ultimates and people who do the ultimate thing with the ultimate ultimates and now the game is like oh shoot we forgot to mention that there are a bunch of normal students here too, sorry.
You think someone, at some point, in either of the games, wouldve mentioned this fact. Like Hajime is just the Ultimate Mom Paid His Tuition on time and no one here even know that was a possibility.
Also Nagito is a straight up jerk to me now. Hey, snob, stop being so rude. It is hurting my feelings and my feelings dont regenerate as fast as ultimate feelings.
He also refuses to tell us what he found in the octagon. Figures. This dude can only be useful for like two minutes at a time before dipping right back down into crazy town.
Kazuichi and the rest of THE BOYS arrive and hes carrying the compass Nagito gave him. Apparently it rotated 180 degrees while they were on the elevator. AHA! That meansthat meansIm not quite sure what that means. It just turned around?
Nagito is also now a jerk to everyone for some reason. Hes acting all pretentious and talking down to everyone. What was in that folder? Did Nagito find out he was also the Ultimate Affluent Prodigy Backup? Did he find out he drove a Prius and no one else did? Did it reveal everyone else watched the Jersey Shore reboot? WHAT IS IT MAN?
Kazuichi now does the autopsy since hes good at taking apparent magical sentient machines, too. We dont learn too much else, but we find a clock in Mechamarus chest that probably is going to tell us the real time of death.
This is a hilarious clock too. Like a giant, Flava Flav type clock that is just sticking out of his chest. You think Monokuma wouldve sprung for the extra $20 to go digital but apparently he was over budget already.
The clock says 7:30. HMMMM. Fuyuhiko claims he heard the crashing noise at 5:30 which is weird. They then go through extreme lengths to remind us that Nekomaru has a super clock that was always accurate and could never be tampered with. So thats probably important.
Im trying to figure out what the time thing could mean. Either someone got daylights saving time mixed up or maybe they wanted to mess with the time of death.
You know I thought I was starting to get a grip on this but now Im just confused as hell. Nagito find a scratched up doorknob which meanssomething and then tells Kazuichi to get some parts from Nekomarus body so he can fix the buttons getting into Grape/Strawberry hall. And he says not to worry about the chains on the door because they dont matter. He does his best Byakuya from early game 1 impression and storms off.
Hm. So the door opens no problem and the crime scene is flipped 180 degrees from what it should be. It looks just the same as when we went through the other door. INTERESTING.
Im trying to figure out what this means. Does the entire tower rotate when you use the elevator? Or maybe it is some sort of elevator itself? So grape house is on top of strawberry house or vice versa and the floor of the tower is what moves up or down. Im not sure what is more likely but the way the funhouse is set up is clearly some sort of important clue here.
Gundham proposes a portal to the NetherRealm opened and ate the chain, and Sonia thinks it might be MAGIC. Yeah great job guys, how about the two of you sit the rest of this investigation out.
And now we find the final clue.the doorknob on the other side of the door has been taken off! AHA! Still dont know what this means other than Monokuma needs better contractors.
DING DONG BING BONG uh oh guys time to party again
A giant Monokuma head bursts from the ground out of nowhere and at this point in the story the suspension of disbelief has been thrown so far out the window that this makes total and complete sense to me.
Nagito stays behind as everyone else enters the giant Monokuma head and talks about this favorite novel of his where the protagonist turns out to be the killer and the reader doesnt know until the very end. Isis Hajime the killer? Amam I the killer? Nagito this would be easier to follow if you didnt talk in riddles all the time.
Oh cool he also insults me again. Nagito hates reserve corp students the same way Nagito hates coherent sentence structure.
Hajime: I need to calm down ya youre being too loud dont step on my gown
They show the elevator this time and literally the entire back half is empty. I didnt realize this until now, but they seem to be killing off whoever stands in the back of the elevator. Which means the killer must beNagito! AHA! Knew it.
Class trial time! And for once I really dont have a good idea as to who the killer is. Good job killer! I can rule some people out. Probably not Hajime or Nagito, regardless of how weird Nagitos last line about his favorite mystery novel was. I dont think it is Akane based on how emotional she was about Nekomaru dying. I feel like the fact the door only opened from the girls side is meant to incriminate the girls, meaning it probably isnt Chiaki or Sonia. So you have your group of three of Fuyuhiko, Kazuichi, or Gundham. Or suicide? But I'm strangely less certain of that now than when I started. The whole mechanics of this murder are weird to me still so I dunno for sure.

8. Gundham I dont have any evidence really pointing at Gundham, but he was the least helpful during the investigation and he just kept standing in the corner yelling about pandemonium. Which he does every investigation, granted, but at least the other two guys were doing stuff so if it isn't suicide I feel like Gundham is the most likely. Kazuichi fixed the elevator and Fuyuhiko testified about seeing Nekomaru leaving and then also said he didnt see anyone else coming and going. I woud have no clue how Gundham pulled this off or even what exactly was done, but he was just the most suspicious based on how he was acting. So Gundham is my pre-trail guess! Or suicide. Or maybe Kazuichi. Or someone else.
7. Kazuichi Ok so the killer had to know how to sabotage the elevator. I feel like that isnt common knowledge. I wouldnt know what to do to get it to stop working. There seems to be something very mechanical about the way the funhouse works, and I bet Kazuichi would have the know how to take advantage of that. Also, he would be the kind of guy who would have an advantage against a giant robot magic man in a fight, being the ultimate mechanic and all. Still he was the guy who took Nekomaru apart to find the clock and also fixed the elevator and doors. I feel like maybe he couldve come up with some excuse to not get that done if he was the real killer.
6. Fuyuhiko Fuyuhiko was the guy who conveniently saw Nekomaru leave but was too weak to go chasing after him. And he was the one closest to the alarm when it went off while he was just sitting in the lounge for unclear reasons. Those things are both very weird but it seems weirder to me for the killer to be like uh yeah I saw him leaving and didnt see anyone else from our side going after him. Like that is the opposite of what he should be doing if he is the killer.
5. Nagito I feel like Nagito evolved from weirdo to SUPER weirdo after he got that folder. I dont think that will have any direct baring on this case, but I feel like things are going to get bad in the next chapter due to whatever Nagito knows but wont tell us.
4. Sonia My favorite part this chapter is where Sonia goes MINDFREEEEEAAAAAK a couple of times when trying to explain how the chains disappeared. Sonia you werent much help this case at all, but I like you so I hope you stick around.
3. Akane I hope whoever was the culprit gets executed quickly, because otherwise Akane might just beat them to death herself. She was very clear on this during the case, telling me multiple times she was going to violently attack whoever was responsible. Normally this would look suspicious, but I think it is well established at this point that Akane is too dumb to pull off something this complicated. If she made her way to the Final Dead room, she would have misunderstood the rules and eaten the gun. If she ever was the killer, the corpse would have its head punched in and Akane would still have her hands bloody when she told us she found the body that way.
2. Hajime Ultimate Not An Ultimate had a rough investigation segment. Not only did he find out his parents just paid his tuition to get in (which seems like a thing that he shouldnt forget since he has all of his memories before going into the school, but whatever), but Nagito has been very disrespectful for the entire case. Luckily Hajime is about to redeem himself by figuring out this case, and also punching Nagito right in the face because that jerk deserves it.
1. Chiaki Chiaki please help. I dont know what is going on and Nagito has devolved into Riddler-style madness. I know Chiaki isnt the killer, because if she was I feel like the killer would win by default as the rest of the cast here isnt exactly the smartest group of detectives.

Final Thoughts Heading Into Chapter 4 Trial I'm trying to figure out exactly what is going on with the fun house set up, since that is pretty clearly tied to what happened in the murder. I think the important clues are the following: the handle that fell off the grape door in the tower, the loop in the string tied to Nekomaru, and the fact the compass turned 180 degrees while Kazuichi was in the elevator to one building to the next. So...what does this all mean?
I'm guessing the loop was tied to the doorknob that was pulled off. Did Nekomaru attach the loop to the door, start running and smash into the pillar? I don't think that makes sense. Why couldn't he just run into the pillar normally if he was trying to bring it down on top of himself? I think he might've been suspended from it and then fell, somehow? I don't quite understand how, but I think it is pretty clear that grape house is on top of strawberry house (or vice versa) based on how Nagito went from one to the next by using the hatch in the Final Dead room. so maybe Nekomaru was hanging from the knob, it broke, and he fell on top of that one pillar to his death?
What I absolutely do not understand is what it means that the compass went 180 degrees when going from one building to the next. Why did the elevator rotate? If the houses are on top of each other...shouldn't it be going up and down and not just rotating?
Also...is this case a suicide? Maybe an assisted suicide? I don't know how Nekomaru would've orchestrated all this by himself. The fake hammer murder weapon is also weird. If it was a suicide wouldn't he want everyone to know about it?
But then what the hell was with Nagito pointing out how the cases paralleled each other? That was something I figured out after case 2 but case 3 really drove that point home. He even pointed out case 4 was a suicide for people who didn't play the first game. WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHAT DOES IT MEAN??!?!
I feel like I'm slowly circling the drain of insanity trying to figure this one out. Is this obvious and I'm an idiot? The last couple of cases I had mostly figured out by the time the trial started so this is uncharted territory for me this game.
But if it wasn't suicide then who is the killer? The only one I can think of is Gundham, but that seems out of character for him and also I don't really have clues pointing that direction. It would need to be one of the boys because the set up was clearly meant to implicate the girls and Nagito traveling from one house to the next kind of points at them since they were in the house you shouldn't have been able to kill Nekomaru from (and thus HAVE to be the place the killer came from). Gundham is just kinda the odd man out of those four since he is the only one that doesn't help or provide testimony in some way.

I just realized that both Fuyuhiko and Akane were saved by someone else who is now dead. Wonder if that is going to be a theme or if well see anyone else that gets saved before the game is over.
Kazuichi panics because Hajime was with Sonia and Chiaki first thing in the morning and insinuates the three of them spent the night together. Kazuichi, Hajime wishes he was half the player you imagine him to be.
Sonia: Imbecile! I am not some woman with flexible legs! Great use of the word imbecile. That is a really awkward way of saying you arent a skank, but good use of the word imbecile nonetheless.
Akane: Theres no way a chick would kill someone so cruellyso it must be one of you Strawberry House dudes. First off women can do anything they put their minds to, even murder. Secondly the last two killers were women and the one two cases ago specifically killed someone with a blow to the head. So, no. Objection. Objection all over the place.
Kazuichi seems to think the hammer was the muder weapon in spite of the fact the hammer is in perfect condition and has no oil on it. I smack him upside the head with some cold hard TRUTH.

Theres something weird about the room itself though that might be a clue. Theyre very clearly telling me hey this layout isnt the way you think it is. Maybe my ramblings about one house on top of the other turned out to be right?

Dang both Sonia and I are wrong. There were no pillar fragments on top of his body, only underneath. Which means the pillar fell first, I guess. There goes the last shred of my "crushed himself with a pillar" theory. Im not quite sure a pillar being pulled down on top of him would leave fragments on his body, but I am not expert on robot murder so Ill believe Hajime on this one.
When we cant figure out how the pillar was used to kill Nekomaru, Nagito gets all pouty and complains about how we arent being special enough and living up to our ultimate status. Nagito you mustve been a lot of fun at parties before the world ended.

No one can figure it out so we have to go begging Nagito to help us. He is as helpful as youd expect (zero) and says he WANTS TO PLAY A LITTLE GAME instead in his best Jigsaw voice.
Nagito says he can give us a hint as to the secret of the funhouse by showing a very special picture he took while inside the Final Dead room. Man, do I hope it isnt his genitals.
And as he said thathe showed us a peculiar picture oh fuck it is his genitals isnt it?
Phew not genitals. Just a boring picture of some trees and the clouds. This photo tells us three things: 1) the first floor of strawberry house is higher up as it is above the tree line 2) grape house isnt in the photo at all and it appears there is just one structure leading to the tower 3) the ghost of Mahiru lives on through NAGITOS ARTISTIC HAND
Grape house is actually on top of strawberry house. Or is it the other way around? I already forgot. The important part is that these were oriented vertically. That confirms what I was thinking, and at least parts of this murder are making a bit more sense now.
Kazuichi flexes his muscles and tells Sonia to check him out solving the mystery of grape tower/strawberry tower in relation to the houses. Sonia yawns and continues eye humping Gundham. Its for the best because Kazuichis theory is someone built a replica Mechamaru and thats why we saw a body in both locations.
