I dont get why the direction the contact elevator moves is a thing we need to figure out. It has no real bearing on the case and weve already figured out the building is weirdly designed. It is brought up only to be solved in the next nonstop debate and just feels weirdly out of place kind of like they were padding for content.

He would have just told us and wouldnt have tied himself up, hung himself in the air, and then dropped down somehow to make it look like the least possible suicide ever.
AlthoughI am remembering one of the laws of robotics they suspiciously brought up that said something about how robots couldnt hurt themselves. Maybe this was his clever way of getting around that to trick his body into thinking he wasnt hurting himself? Hm hm hm.

After Sonia tells Kazuichi to shut up a couple of times, we figure out that Mechamura mustve been suspended from the doorknob by the wire that was tied around his body. Monokuma springing for those industrial strength doorknobs that can suspend enormous robots from them, I see.
Hm yuck we appear to have just found Kazuichis fetish and hes now taking a break from the trial to beg Sonia to call him a pig. Im just glad that jumpsuit is so baggy that we dont see his erection.
Akane calls Fuyuhiko Baby Gangsta again and she just shoots up a couple of spots in my character power rankings. Baby Gangsta does sound like an actual rap name from like the early 2000s too which is nice.
So Akane claims to have gotten to the tower at 7 AM which is weird considering Mechamarus internal alarm went off at 7:30. Sosomeone was messing with the clocks? For what reason? It is also possible Akane just cant tell time because she is quite dumb.
The fact that "Mechamaru has an internal clock that is never wrong and cant be messed with and always tells the perfect time and was obviously going to be a clue the second they introduced it in the chapter" is a clue. Using it we can pinpoint how far off all the other clocks were since Akane used her super hearing to hear the crash and pinpoint the exact time of the murder.
Ohhhh Nagito tells me something I hadnt figured out yet. The reason Mechamaru went to the tower alone was because his clock was alone the only one that wasnt messed with. Thats actually fairly clever, Mr. Killer.
Also, good job Nagito for not just furiously masturbating to the idea of hope this trial and helping out.
Sonia also has a werid aside where she mentions not being able to hear the noise in spite of being awake the entire night. This + Nagito not hearing the alarm are going to be important somehow. I dont know how yet, but thats definitely a clue of some sort.

Nagito is again helpful and tells us the alarm Fuyuhiko heard is CRUCIAL evidence. Fuyuhiko goes AHA and proclaims since that coincided with the time of death that whoever didnt have an alibi during that time is the guilty party. Dang! Great deductive skills! Other than the fact they already told us this crime was set up, then triggered by the internal alarm, and the killer didnt need to be anywhere near the victim at the time. Solike not all that great, Baby Gangsta. If only you were an adorable Baby Detective.
Oh wait were going through with this anyway? The game has me point the finger at Nagito since he didnt come out of his room during the time but Im like 99% sure this is a misdirect. Although if Nagito was the killer this would be an A+ case since I legitimately wouldnt have seen that coming.

Murder Plot: B+ - This one was actually pretty good! Far and away the best in the game so far, so if I was grading on a curve it'd be an A easily. I feel like Gundham might have actually gotten away with it if it wasnt for Fuyuhiko hanging out in the lounge for no reason for like three straight hours. Id be so pissed if I was Gundham. I pull off this convoluted murder plot that requires like eight different things to go right and they all do, but then Im caught because Fuyuhiko cant stay in his damn room. I feel like the only mistake he made was that he shouldve ran to his room while Fuyuhiko and Kazuichi were fiddling with the clock. He also gets points for straight up beating Nekomaru in a fair fight using only his weirdness and hamsters. This is the first guy in the game that doesnt do a terrible job implicating himself as the criminal and maybe Im being too generous with the B+ just because every one of the previous murderers were straight up dumb. Gundham actually had a decent plan here, but loses some points since pulling it off requires no one leaving their room and also him surviving a game of Russian Roulette. Any plot that involves a 1/6 chance of your brain being blown out the back of your skull can only get so many points.

8. Gundham Gundham joins the ranks of the fallen and my predictions are just all off at this point. I thought Gundham was going to make it to the end by the virtue of being this games token fun living weirdo. I highly doubt Nagito makes it to the end, but maybe he makes it far enough the game considers all the other weirdos disposable and have no problem bumping them all off in subsequent chapters. I actually grew to like Gundham quite a bit and his death ended up being one of the rougher in the game for me. RIP crazy hamster man. May you be forcing rodents to have sex with each other in the afterlife.
7. Sonia Ok so I went to check the main menu and this is Chapter 5 now. I remember Danganronpa had 6 chapters and a prologue. So we should have on more extra chapter before we reach the grand finale. I have no idea who is safe and who isnt at this point because I feel like a lot of the remaining characters are semi disposable. My best guess is Sonia gets murdered by Kazuichi after Kazuichi goes full incel when he realizes Soina will never love him. Sonia was clearly all hot and bothered by bad boy Gundham and might not know hey Im the nice guy who didnt murder anyone Kazuichis name at this point. I feel like this is the perfect incel origin story. WATCH OUT SONIA.
6. Kazuichi Im WATCHING you Kazuichi. This whole weird shtick of him must being hopelessly in love with Sonia has to be going somewhere right? And now that he knows that Sonia will never love him hes going to SNAP. I also feel like everyone left has no lost someone that they were close to except for the main characters of Hajime/Chiaki/Nagito except for Kazuichi. Hes the only one who hasnt experienced loss yet which clearly means hes going full on psychopath next chapter.
5. Nagito Hes getting closer to full on lunatic cuckoo land here. He has this weird scene at the end where he was like now I know everything followed immediately by hey uh Monokuma could you tell me who the traitor is? Hes going to spend this next chapter figuring everything out, finishing his character arc off, and dying in the final chapter.
4. Akane Akanes sparring partner/weird sexual masseuse is out of the picture now which is rough but she did have a couple of brief segments of characterization this chapter at least. She is sort of a fun dummy, all things considered. She definitely isn't in my top tier of characters, but I don't mind her as much as I used to. I also think she might be safe now so Nekomaru's death is more meaningful. Her and Fuyuhiko have been saved by someone who is now dead, and it takes away a bit of the OOMPH if they were to just die afterwards.
3. Fuyuhiko Fuyuhiko is no Byakuya. Hes meant to be this games Byakuya I think, but he doesnt have the personality and he isnt really helpful to any of the cases. It is weird how much I like this cast a whole but how the final group here has some of the lower ranking characters if I were to tier them by how much I liked them. Baby gangster is still going strong on his boo hoo Im not a jerk anymore character arc though so hes safe for now.
2. Hajime Hajime is such a better protagonist this game its crazy. I highly doubt there is any last minute twist where he dies so he is almost certainly safe.
1. Chiaki So few cute girls left. If there are two things Danganronpa loves it is cute girls and genius characters that can move the trials along if the protagonist gets stuck. Chiaki seems a stone cold LOCK to make it to the end.

If he didn't put effort into getting away with his murder, then what was this kill even for? The Nekomaru/Gundham battle was almost like a big prelude to this. He decided to pit himself against who he deemed his enemy, and whoever won the battle/trial would get to live, simple as that.
Pre-Chapter 5 Thoughts, Concerns, and PLEASE DON'T KILL SONIA I'm worried for Sonia. I just have a bad feeling going into this next chapter that something bad is going to happen to her. I think at this point they just keep killing all my favorite characters so I'm dreading Sonia being next on the chopping block. They just offed Gundham, so I'll be very sad if they kill his girlfriend next chapter. I'm hoping she starts carrying around his hamsters to keep his spirit alive, but I'm mildly concerned Kazuichi is going to "nice guy" her to death.
Although...there is something interesting forming here. Fuyuhiko had a strong connection to Peko. Akane had a strong connection to Nekomaru. Sonia had a strong connection to Gundham. Is it possible the final crew are people that made strong friendships along the way and lost someone? Is that some sort of theme we're going for here? It could make for a really impactful conclusion, but then I don't know who is next on the chopping block. I can't see Nagito making it to endgame for sure. Kazuichi still feels like the odd man out, so maybe him too? I dunno.
ALSO this is yet another reason that Hiyoko should've lived! We could've had her in the cast with the other three as someone living through their grief because of her friendship with Mahiru. So I guess maybe strong friendships don't guarantee your safety in this game?

Nagito comes out and basically says it was in this chapter and points out the links between the cases after he gets the "late game spoilers" folder. So...is something going on? But then what is the connection between 1-4 and 2-4?
The only thing I can think of is Sakura sacrificed herself for the good of the group, and that kind of parallels here too? Both Gundham and Nekomaru squared off because otherwise the rest of the group was going to starve to death? Does that count? Am I stretching it too far?
If I was still going with my parallel case theory, chapter 6 would be the wrap up case against the big boss and chapter 5 would be...the short case that sort of sets that up? I have no idea how to even parallel chapter 5 here. Also: I loved this case. Boy did I need this case. I was really starting to get worried after the last two, but this was exactly the sort of strong all around case I needed. I liked the set up and the characters and the murder wasn't immediately obvious and the conclusion to the chapter was fucking excellent. That was the sort of case I was hoping for coming into this, so fingers crossed 5/6 are just as good!
How meta for the game to fill me with despair with two subpar cases only to make my hope after chapter 4 all the more hopeful! Clearly this was their intention all along and it has nothing to do with the fact the writers had a hard time coming up with the middle filler cases this time around.
I guess the only thing I was missing is this game hasn't truly surprised me yet. There were a couple of cases last game where something that was revealed in trial legitimately caught me off guard...and I haven't had that yet here. Even though I didn't have the full specifics down, I kinda figured it was Gundham and I kind figured the structure of the funhouse was what it was. I fully agree with that, but I do not think he was sacrificing himself. He wanted to live, imo. If he wanted to sacrifice himself for the others, he could've admitted it right away. Or left some sort of note for Monomi to read before they voted or something.
I just think Chiaki was giving him slightly too much credit. He clearly did it because he thought they were going to die anyway at that point, but at the same time he wasn't just sacrificing himself. He wanted to win that trial. Hell, he probably could've if not for Fuyuhiko's restless baby gangsta syndrome.

This trial hits really hard for a lot of people. I've watched my fair share of LP's of this game, and a handful of them have ended up in full-blown tears by the end of his execution. That handful includes Gundham's very own voice actor, Chris Tergliafera (easily one of the best VAs in the series, might I add), who just played through DR2 in December of 2019. He remembered voicing lines about being a culprit, but he legitimately didn't know which case it was going to be. When he got around to it and learned the context for all his lines, he was wiping away tears left and right.
Oh wow that's really cool. I'll have to track that video down after I'm done.
Yeah, Gundham's VA absolutely killed it. The entire voice cast in this game is so damn strong (I keep going back to the VA for Mikan during her flip as being another standout example) but Gundham might be my favorite. The whole ending to the case was excellent.
I wasn't in tears or anything close to that, but the execution plus Sonia's tearful attempt at a happy pic definitely hit the feels.

One thing reading back through this today that I don't think I fully captured was how convinced I was that this was going to be a suicide at the start of the case, and even up through most of the investigation. Like I can see parts where I should have been like "oh this is obvious" but instead I was trying to cram in some way to make my suicide theory make sense much longer than I should've.
The game was definitely trying to nudge me in that direction, which was a very clever misdirect by them I think. I'm not positive it was meant to be that much of a misdirect, or if I had gotten it into my head because I was seeing these similarities as early as chapter 2. But I kept getting new evidence and thinking "ok now how could this still be a suicide" much longer than I should've.

I do agree that there were some minor parts in the trial that were kind of annoying (like I said the exact way the service elevator worked seemed utterly pointless since we had figured out everything from the picture), but even that was a huge step up from 2-3.
I remember one part of 2-3 had me answering like four multiple choice questions in a row. Same as 2-2, actually. And the multiple choice questions in this game suck. It's always one obvious answer and three joke answers and the joke answers don't even have the decency to be funny. This is a funny, well written game so if they were going to do joke answers they easily could've made them at least worth guessing wrong. I want Phoenix Wright level multiple choice answers, dammit.

I actually stopped I want to say 2/3 the way through this trial because I had given up on joke answers being funny after a very clearly obvious joke answer (I forget which one, but the answer itself was enough to make me smile) turned out to not be funny at all. Also, the "misdirect" towards it being a suicide is very, very good, because it isn't but it also KIND of can be justified as one. They fought to the death both knowing it had to happen, and Gundham own beliefs meant he couldn't just give up, because he would be a hypocrite if he didn't fight back.
However, one could argue some of frankly absurd defenses for himself as he was closed in on show he wasn't putting in much effort, potentially due to his feelings for Sonia. Gundham was not an idiot, his plan clearly shows that, yet his defenses both express his refusal to give up combined with his desire for everyone else to live.

Yeah, my general take on it is Gundham was sort of "we can't all just die here that's lame" BUT he was also definitely trying to win. If he wins, great, he lives. If he loses, fine, his friends live. But he was trying to win and trying to live even if it meant his friends dying.
I guess you could argue the fact he announced himself at the alarm sort of indicates he was sabotaging himself a little bit (because like I said he could've just snuck behind them as they didn't see which way he came from when he walked into the lounge). But at least I got the impression he was in it to win it, baby. I thought his outburst at the end wasn't so much "hey I'm making it obvious so you guys win" but "I'm making it obvious so you guys don't feel bad because you need to move on, particularly you Sonia love ya bb".
I mean, that's how I read it, at least!

You can save right when they ask you the question, actually. So I've been saving, reading wrong answers, and reloading as needed. I stopped doing that though because while there are a couple of lines of original dialogue, there has been a grand total of one the whole game that had an amusing response and it wasn't worth the time I was wasting checking it out.
Bad habit from the Phoenix Wright games where the wrong dialogue can be legitimately hilarious sometimes.

My reading was that Gundham just couldn't accept suicide, so he had to kill Nekomaru (the only other person who could defend himself in a fight), but also couldn't accept suicide by admitting to the crime. If he'd genuinely wanted to win, he could have just asked Nagito to help set up an unsolvable crime, since Nagito kept offering that earlier in the game.
When I did 3-4 I thought hard that it was either suicide or Hope Dope's Wild Ride as the culprit, where they're all "let us show you the P.O.V. of another motive that you don't know about except for mystery file" and then set him up personalitywise as a red herring so strongly that it wheels around to ludicrous... just like Nagito himself.
I game-overed a few times this trial, I'll admit. I kept looking way too hard at Kazuichi, too, honestly.

Chapter 5 Daily Life End Game Coming Up Fast And I'm A Little Sad About It
Were chilling in the restaurant and Hajime comments on how spacious it is because half of our friends are dead. Yeah, cool cool. Way to bring down the mood, man.
AHHHH GHOST NEKOMARU
Seriously like three of us heard Nekomarus voice and none of us are going to comment on it? We're having a collective delusion here, don't go back to eating bacon, guys.
Oh Kazuichi just made a small Nekomaru robot thing. His name is Minimaru and hes basically the same thing as a Furby but talks about shitting like three times more.
Kazuichi scavenged some parts from Mechamaru to make it, apparently. I am not looking forward to finding the doll he made with authentic Gundham skin.
Kazuichi tries to give a pep talk and the Sonia goes on about how amazing Gundham was for like a minute. Sorry dude. Even in death Gundham is Sonias number one boy toy. Maybe try getting into a goth phase and teaching gerbils how to murder robots. Thats the kind of thing that gets Sonias panties dropping.
Kazuichi reveals that Minimaru can also be used to give yourself massages. So like hes a Nekomaru themed vibrator, basically, right? No wonder Akane called dibs immediately.
Nagito has gone missing and everyone is pretty nonchalant about a lunatic roaming the islands that thinks death is a springboard to hope.
Hajime finally reveals his dark secret of being a boring reserve course student. No one really cares because unlike Nagito they arent socially crippled madmen. They take turns telling Hajime he shouldnt care and it doesnt change anything and theyre still his friends. Then we hold hands and sing kumbaya and no murders ever happen ever again. Right guys?

Haha I love how everyone here hates Monomi as much as I do. Progressing the story aside but why the hell would we want to go to the final island? Seems like the only thing waiting for us on new islands is murder.

There isnt much to the island. We find a giant factory that makes Monokuma plushies so thats uh cool I guess. Good to see Monokuma thought all the merchandising opportunities through.
Chiaki thinks the conveyor belt here reminds her of games. Like this one game where you just put caps on pensor another game where you try to guess a persons gender. Yeah I think that last one is called sir were going to have to ask you to leave this Arbys.
Hajime: Looks like the break room is on the other side of this door. It sounds like a place for housewives to gossip, but it doesnt seem like theres anyone at this factory. Uh, what? Hajime, what do you think breakrooms are for and why would housewives have one at a factory?
There is also a military base here with a ton of equipment. It looks like Monokuma is getting ready to launch his invasion of Candyland.
Hajime starts a fight with a helicopter to show it whos boss. The helicopter is quickly established as boss and it takes his lunch money.
In my country, even a child in grade school can operate a tank, no problemo! The more I hear from Sonia the more convinced I am she comes from North Korea.
Apparently the Future Foundation had been using this island as their base of operations because the company running it went out of business. Probably something to do with the native animal population of enormous robot terrorbeasts.
Although the document we found this information from was literally just laying out in the open in a military tank, so I dunno how trustworthy it is.

We also find the factory where they manufacture the monobeasts. It needs better lighting and less monobeasts.
Th-this machineis making another machine? Uh oh guys Hajime just found out about automation. I feel like hes about two weeks away from going full Andrew Yang and yelling about the upcoming robot uprising.
Monokuma shows up and tells us this was put here to stop the naysayers playing the game from saying the monobeasts being here didnt make sense. Hey man I didnt need a factory for this. I was just imagining they were shipped in from off site. Also this is only like the 17th craziest thing in the game so Im not sure why this is the thing that needed slightly more realism.
Theyre also making a humanoid robot here which I guess is supposed to be a clue that the traitor is some sort of T-1000 type thing. Alright guys everyone take off your shirts and the first person with a circuit panel is the robot.
Kazuichi finds news events detailing the end of the world on the computer but thinks it is some sort of badly written story. I mean, students causing a riot on that scale is totally impossible. Id never believe it for a second. Hey guys Kazuichi is copying my notes from the first game now and not given me credit and it is unfair.
We meet up to discuss everything weve learned. Fuyuhiko suddenly comes to the conclusion that maybe the Future Foundation isnt all that bad considering Monomi has basically admitted to working for them and she is trying to stop us from murdering each other. Good point.
Kazuichi puts on his hysterical pants and yells at Fuyuhiko that that is the EXACT sort of thing the traitor would say. Sonia slaps him down and tells him that maybe the guy forcing us to kill each other isnt exactly trustworthy and might be lying about this whole traitor thing in the first place. Another good point.
Nagito shows up and brings down the entire mood by telling us that there is no need for a motive because hes going to take care of it while rooting out the traitor. He then makes a motion to his two friends Freddy Rigatoni and Jonny The Knife because hes gone full on mob boss.
Also he thinks the survivors of the killing school game are here and tells us he knows a whole bunch of secrets but he isnt telling so neener neener neener. Damn dude share your spoilers. We want to know too.

Kazuichi has come up with a plan to capture Nagito by morning. His brilliant plan isGRAB HIIM AKANE AND FUYUHIKO! Brilliant plan. Chiaki is supposed to lure him somewhere so the other two can grab him which is perfect considering how she is really good at standing in one spot and falling asleep.
Sonia and I dont have any role in the plan. Kazuichi tells me to get the rope but Sonia DENYS him and says she needs Hajime to come with her somewhere to HELP her with SOMETHING. Oh, hell help you alright. HELP YOU ALL THE WAY TO THE BED AM I RIGHT FELLAS.
Sonia wants me to meet her in the hotel lobby in thirty minutes. Kazuichi melts into a pile of tears right in front of us and seeps through the floor.
Sonia yells at me for being late for our meeting even they Im on time. She says you are severely punished in her country if you do not show up 13 minutes before a scheduled meeting time. Right to jail. Straight away. You charging too much for sweatersjail. You overcook chicken, believe it or not jail. You engage in a twister murder game involving high school studentsjail, right away, jail. They have the fewest high school murder games of any country. Thanks to jail.
Sonia very smartly points out that while there was no secret base on the middle island as described in the weird pamphlet we found, there was definitely a weird building that had the words future foundation on it on the second island and we should probably check it out. Good call Sonia. This is why youre the smart one and Kazuichi is the one that thinks jumping out and grabbing people counts as a plan.
My stalkerI mean, Kazuichi, is over there. Let us depart so he does not notice us. Nah, Sonia, you were right the first time honestly.
I try to bring Sonia back to my cabin while investigating. Bringing an unmarried woman to your room like this is shameless! My legs are not so flexible! Thats still the weirdest way Ive ever heard someone say they arent a whore, but ok, sure. Or maybe she just has scoliosis and was warning me.
When we investigate the ruins we discover that there is a door that needs a password and a gun pointing right at us that wont let us just guess at it. Well discover in the same sense that Christopher Colombus discovered America since Im 99% sure we knew that from when we first came here like three chapters ago.
Nighttime comes when were going to spring our devious plan. The doorbell rings and itsAH NAGITO. Dont kill me man it wasnt my idea!
Nagito sees through our brilliant plan of Chiaki saying hey uh meet me at the lobby I want to talk to you about something and knows its a trap. Darn. And we spent a whole ten seconds thinking this thing up too.
Nagito wants Hajime to go with to the lobby now because theres something he actually wants to talk to us about. Hopefully it isnt about murdering one of us.
He just lets himself be captured. So uh that was easy. Good job Kazuichi!
Oops Nagito blows up the lounge with some explosives he planted earlier and Kazuichi goes flying through the air. Ok yeah his plan was better than ours. Bad job Kazuichi.

Ok so Nagitos plan is to blow up the entire island. Yeah I guess thats one way to make sure you get the traitor. Nagitos the kind of guy to blow up a house to get rid of an ant infestation.
All the bombs are set to go off in two days at noon. Well at least he gave us a sporting chance to stop him. I mean, it makes no sense not to just detonate them NOW but I suppose Nagito was hired by the writers to give enough dramatic tension.
Oh wait. He says hell tell us where the bombs are if the traitor comes forward. That at least isnt as crazy, as far as insane plots to blow up an island go.
Monomi says the traitor cant just reveal themselves like that and eyes Nagito all intensely. PSST NAGITO HEY MAYBE INVESTIGATE THE WEIRD RABBIT THING SHE MIGHT KNOW SOMETHING
We go to the restaurant the next day to plan where we go from here and Nagito is just standing there. How is he so hard for you guys to catch? He keeps willingly walking to where we are.
Nagito gives us a hint and says the bombs are somewhere we havent been before. Oh no hes hidden them in his anus.
Weve narrowed the hiding places down to two non-anus locations. One is the ancient ruins, but we eliminate that since Nagito would need a password to get in and he probably doesnt have that. The other is Nezumi Castle. I cant remember why we couldnt go in there last time and apparently the rest of the group doesnt either since we all rush over to immediately check it out.
We get to the front of Nezumi Castle and the whole front is blown up. I guess when the only tool you have is a (bomb), then every problem looks like a (thing you can blow up real good).
Some of us dont want to go inside because it looks like a trap. Other people have forgotten the fact we literally just walked into a trap one chapter ago and think everything will be fine.
Sonia: How can you grip the trousersnake if you do not enter its den!? Who is teaching you these quotes now that Teruteru is dead?
There are no bombs in Nezumi Castle. No ambient lighting either. Hey guys would you mind opening the curtains we can barely see anything even with the comically large hole out front.
The password to the Future Foundation building was etched in the floor. Hey guys maybe giant stone plaques arent the best spot for important passwords. These guys probably bought a billboard so they wouldnt forget their ebay password.
Its scratched out by Nagito and it takes everyone a worryingly long time to come to that conclusion.
The logical assumption here is that Nagito found the password and placed all his bombs inside the future foundation building where we cant get to them. What a jerk.
Tensions are now high again as everyone suspiciously side eyes everyone else as being the traitor while loudly saying BOY IF I WAS THE TRAITOR I WOULD JUST TELL NAGITO BECAUSE THEYD DIE TOO COUGH COUGH pleaseidontwannadie
We go looking for other landmarks they mightve etched the password into. It isnt the worst idea considering they already made one and you get a discount if you buy password landmarks in bulk.
New day and12 hours left until Nagito blows us all up. Im assuming that means SOMETHING happens today. But what? Explosions? Murder? Trousersnakes?
Sonia is saying weird stuff about how they have to do anything to live and if they dont Gundham and the others will be disappointed in them. Im just making a note here because that seems like a potential motive for an upcoming MURDER. Im watching you, princess.
In the restaurant Akane is strangling Nagito to death. I want to stop her but I also want first dibs on the bacon assortment on the breakfast table.
Nagito doesnt flinch because hes a lunatic and starts giving Akane gross suggestions of all the ways she can use forks and spoons to try and torture the information out of him.

They probably only matter tothe outside. Ok Monomi what the hell does THAT mean? I know Im supposed to be finding bombs but this seems more interesting.
Hajime wants to know more about the outside group watching us but she just clams up and says she cant say. Probably the Future Foundation since thats who Monomi is working for, but she could also be referring to Netflix subscribers. Who knows.
There is a surveillance camera pointed directly at Monomis bed. Yo Monomi not to be nosy but what the HELL is this one for? Is this for premium members? You doing ASMR? Why would the person monitoring us need a camera pointed directly at her own bed, you weirdo?
Hajime very astutely points out that it would make more sense for these monitors to be in the room of the person controlling Monomi and not in Monomis room itself. This clearly means what weve suspected all along: Monomi is just a dwarf in a suit.

Monomi keeps talking about be splattered with a sticky and gooey disgrace and that is now my least favorite line uttered in a video game. I tried to just ignore it, but she says it three separate times in a desperate attempt to save the other students by getting me to turn the game off once and for all.
Monomis treasure box was stolen by the robber who broke in. She wants me to find it. Sure thing! I mean, I have no clue what is inside it and you didnt tell me what it looks like, but if I ever see a thing that looks like a treasure box, Ill let you know.
I ask Monomi about the bombs but Monokuma shows up to go COUGH NOTHING TO SEE HERE COME ALONG MONOMI before forcefully dragging her out. Uh huh. Weird! Im thinking this means maybe there are no bombs which is kind of what I suspected before and Monokuma is just going along with this because it helps him dig out the traitor.
Welp nevermind. Fuyuhiko shows up immediately after to go hey actually I found a hole pile of bombs you moron did you really think there were no bombs you are so stupid you big dummy. Maybe I added some stuff there, but thats the general gist.
Theyre where all the plushies were being made. He wants me to go find Sonia and Chiaki while he tracks down Akane and Fuyuhiko. I feel like a murder is about to happen so this may be important somehow.
I go to get Sonia but she isnt there. Monokuma says she already went to the fifth island and is by the military base. HMMM. Hajime loudly goes OH THATS WEIRD WHY WOULD SHE GO THERE ON HER OWN I BET SHES NOT THE KILLER OR VICTIM IN THIS CASE COUGH COUGH RIGHT GUYS but I can see through his fibs. Hopefully Sonia wont be dead by the time I get there!

Kazuichi tells us that the truck is set to blow once it stops running and he cant get to the ignition box because it is welded shut and we cant add more gas because the gas cap is wielded shut. Some Ultimate Mechanic.
Akane says shell just drive it into the sea. Fuyuhiko: You cant! You dont even have a drivers license! Fuyuhiko you arent allowed to be the Ultimate Gangster any more. Ultimate Crime Bosses cannot be afraid of traffic cops. Shit I was going to save everyone and drive the explosives away, but I cant because I forgot my license at home and my left rear tail light is out so how can I make a left hand turn guys?

We find Nagitos secret home video. It is less porn-y that youre imagining and way more crazy person manifesto-y. There is apparently an electronic cardkey lock on top of the ignition box and we can open everything if we follow the rules.
Nagito has known who the traitor is ALL ALONG. HAHA. But he is mad the traitor didnt out themselves so he made their e-handbook become the card key for letting us into the ignition box.
Suuuuuuure buddy. Sure thing you know who the traitor is and this isnt a desperate last grasp to figure it out. Nagito says hed tell us more but his boyfriend George is visitng. George? George Totallyarealname of course. Hes from Canada, you wouldnt know him. He goes to a different school.

Recording Nagito comes back to yell at us. Seriouslythink about it. Do you really think there are enough bombs to blow up an entire island? Yeah man that was one of my first thoughts but we just saw a robot person thing so at this point all bets are off.
Nagito says to meet him in the warehouse and when we head over we hear music coming from behind the door. Oh no its a club mix from Eifel 65! SOMEONE BREAK DOWN THE DOOR NOW.
The door to the warehouse is blocked by something, so Akane does the only sensible thing and dropkicks that thing open. Kazuichi is worried about a trap because he is a baby. Akane should dropkick him next.
Nothing inside except darkness and weird monk chanting. Great, we found a Gregorian choir.
AH FIRE! SOMEONE SAVE THE GREGORIAN CHOIR!
Also right before the fire Akane went hey did you guys hear that. Apparently she can hear fire which is pretty impressive. I wonder what other disasters she can perceive with incorrect senses. "EVERYONE GET TO A DOORWAY I SMELL AN EARTHQUAKE COMIN'!"
Sonia says there are fire extinguishing supplies inside the break room. That is a super weird thing to know off of the top of your head, lady.
The fire extinguishers are labeled as fire grenades which sounds like the exact opposite of the thing we want, guys.
Also they are on the very top shelf in a dark room. Seriously Sonia how did you know about these?
Sonia, the honorary island fire marshal, says the last time she looked in here there were more fire supplies. She also tells us that only we can prevent forest fires.
Apparently these are common fire fighting supplies according to Chiaki. I think shes missing some punctuation there because these seem more like common fire/fighting supplies.
We all throw the fire grenades at the fire and nothing happens. In fact, the fire seems like its getting worse. Jeez guys who wouldve thought a fire grenade wasnt something used to stop fires? Keep Sonia away from the concussion grenades because shes going to think those treat head injuries.
Akane: Wh-whatre we gonna do!? All we can do now is pray for rain!
Kazuichi: D-dont be stupid! Theres no way itll conveniently start raining if we pray for it!

We check behind the now burnt up curtain and find.uhERP. Its the corpse of Nagito. It looks like someone took him up on that torture proposal because he is completely torn up, stabbed by a knife, and impaled by a spear. Someone wasnt messing around.

7. Nagito Figures hed die since he knew all the twists. I know we have to almost be at the end now that our primary antagonist is dead. Goodbye Nagito. Ill miss you. Your constant craziness was a great addition and made all the cases a lot more interesting since you never knew if something was just Nagito screwing around with everyone or not. It was this nice little element of chaos and if the game moves forward past this chapter Im going to miss him.
6. Sonia Theres a bunch of weird things going on with Sonia. She wasnt on the island she was supposed to be on and was instead rifling through the military base. She didnt want to come with me to confront Nagito at first which was quite lucky considering Nagito had set up something to help him find the traitor. You would also think diffusing the bombs would take priority over whatever she was doing at the military base, and maybe she didnt hurry over to the bombs because she knew Nagito was already dead. Plus she was the only one who knew where the fire fighting supplies were and also those supplies turned out not to do anything to put out the fire. On top of all of this she was really guys we need to take Gundhams words to heart and do whatever it takes to survive so she even has a motive on top of everything else. So shes got a whole bunch of strikes against her. Almost too many, really. Usually the game doesnt make the killer so obvious just yet, and my only hesitation here is it almost seems too obvious like she is supposed to be this cases red herring. But of all the characters, she makes the most "sense" for doing whatever she could to Nagito to make sure everyone lived considering that was Gundham's dying wish, basically.
5. Fuyuhiko I could see Gundhams message of fight instead of dying resonating with Fuyuhiko especially consider how Peko sacrificed her life to save his. He had this whole narrative redemption arc, but if the games wrapping up they might wrap that up too. Also, it was his idea to split up and search the islands individually, and he just so happened to pick the island where the bomb was at (along with Nagito) by luck (?). Move over Nagito we got a new ultimate lucky student. Since I dont quite know when Nagito died or what he died of, it is possible Fuyuhiko killed him, then ran to get everyone else because he just found the bomb. So while he doesnt raise as many eyebrows as Sonia, he also did a couple of sketchy things here at the end.
4. Chiaki Chiaki has been acting strange for a little while now. Well, stranger than usual. And she jumped right away to have her handbook scanned. Even though it said she wasnt the traitor, Nagito couldve just been lying about that like he lied about the bombs two minutes earlier. Even if she is the traitor though, I dont see much evidence as to why shes the killer. She was the one against tying Nagito up at first and she just doesnt seem very murder-y to me.
3. Kazuichi Theyve emphasized one thing repeatedly in the last couple of chapters: Kazuichi is a coward. He is definitely not the murderer because that would require him to be able to face someone without shaking uncontrollably Hes essentially what would happen if a small frightened dog became an anime boy. Also even if there is another case, Im assuming its going to be the epic end of game case that's either a faceoff against the big bad or that the victim/murderer are going to be more important than Kazuichi. No offense Kazuichi.
2. Akane Akane is another one who definitely didnt do it. Did you see how intricate that murder was? If Akane was ever the killer the victim would be beaten the a pump and Akanes fists would be drenched in blood. I think shes pretty safe from here on out so Akane fans can rejoice.
1. Hajime I have the best alibi of all time: me. So I know I didnt do it. Were likely way too far in for a surprise protagonist switch, so the only thing he has left to worry about is some sort of grand sacrifice to save the rest of the group somehow. I dont think thats very likely though, especially now that madman Nagito already threatened to kill everyone and is dead himself instead.

Final Thoughts And Rambling Before I Start Chapter 5 Deadly Life After chapters of asking for it, Nagito finally gets what he wants: death. Hope it was worth it. Everyone probably knew this dude was dying at some point just based on his character so it definitely wasn't a surprise. Of the entire case, he was basically the only one I was 100% sure was dying at some point since Chapter 1.
I really love the element Nagito added to the game. Like I've said before, it is a fun bit of chaos to have someone like this here where you can never quite trust what is going on as being authentic or Nagito just fucking with us. It is also why case 2 and 3 suffer a bit. Nagito is tied up for the entirety of case 2 so he can't do anything and he's like in a coma for case 3 so he can't do anything there either. He was clearly a driving force for most of the action this game, so much so that in cases they didn't want him messing around in they had to write up ways to get him out of the action. Really, just a fun, solid antagonist, and one that is really unique too.
His murder looked particularly brutal. Like eight different kinds of brutal. Who would do this? My top two suspects are the two characters with survivor's guilt (excluding Akane here because she couldn't pull this off, let's be real). Both Sonia and Fuyuhiko have a serious motivation to live at this point, or to make sure at the very least not everyone dies. And both of them were either on the fifth island because they directed who went where or because they snuck away from where they were supposed to be. It is interesting between those two, but I could see it making sense either way.
The other thing I was considering was...suicide? Only because he said he would be in the warehouse in his pre-recorded message and then his dead body was there. It could be coincidence, or maybe the killer found him there and then murdered him there out of convenience? I think that'd point most to Fuyuhiko because Sonia would have to get lucky to find him, kill him, and get to the base without Fuyuhiko seeing him. But the other option is he was dead there intentionally, either because Nagito somehow killed himself or he agreed to let himself be killed there.
I kinda want to just power through the rest of the game now because I'm hooked, but I'm pot committed to these updates so I won't do that. It takes a little bit extra time to write up my thoughts SO THANKS FOR READING. You guys are lucky you're cool because we're now at the "extremely interesting" portion of the game and I want to just keep on playing but I have to take pauses.

Yeah Nagito didnt just get murdered. This guy is MEGA murdered. He looks like he was murdered like six different ways. We need to figure out who the most indecisive person here was because thats the person that killed him.
Theres also like a huge microphone type thing that has blood on it like maybe it was used as a bludgeoning weapon. Is there anyone here that is also a ringside announcer because if so they just jumped up in my suspect list.

Hm the Monokuma File doesnt list cause of death. Either Monokuma himself is getting lazy or this itself is a clue somehow.
The time of death is noon sharp. We were all together except Sonia. HMMMM. Akane mentions it couldve been set up beforehand and automated in some way to confuse us. So anyone who doesnt have an alibi for the time before noon is a suspect. Which is everyone. Except Nagito since he was busy dying. Great job narrowing down the suspect pool, Akane!
There is what looks like blood on a girder directly above Nagito. It is like fifteen feet off the ground in a thin straight line. I have no clue what the hell this means. I cant even begin to guess something that makes even a little bit of sense. So Im off to a good start!
Ok these clues are straight up weird as fuck. There is a Monokuma plushie that was impaled in the stomach and has blood around the hole like five feet from the body. I dont know what this means, either. CHIAKI HELP ME.
Hooray finally some evidence I understand! There is a lighter on the ground. It is an oil lighter and will burn even after someone lets go of it. The warehouse was set on fire. I bet these two things are connected somehow.
Fuyuhiko points out it looks like Nagito was tortured. I would say duh but this comes as a shock to Hajime. If I had to guess man, those 50 stab wounds in the legs werent put there for self defense. Looks like someone mightve been torturing Nagito for information. Now what information did he have that we all might be interested in? THINK HAJIME! WERE SO CLOSE TO THE END
OH. Waitwaitwait. Something makes sense now. Ok, so if you look at the spear, there is an iron weight on one end and a long cord between the spear and the weight. There is a gap on the cord with no blood on it that looks like a fist. There is blood on the top of girder above Nagito. So he was likely holding the cord, let go, and the spear fell on him.
Why did he let go though? He was holding the cord until something and the Nagito let go and got impaled. That something is important I think. Was this suicide? No wait but then him being restrained doesn't make sense...does it?
One of the four ropes (the one holding his right arm) is burnt straight through. Talk about rope burn am I right I mean am I right guys right hey where are you all going
Right hand has a knife through it. Ouch. Left hand has no blood on it. Yeah so that matches the cord thing. He had to have been holding the cord with this hand, gotten his arm sliced, and the blood got on the rest of his arm except for his hand which he hand closed. Boom solved this piece of evidence at least.
Chiaki rips off the duct tape over Nagitos mouth because she wants to make sure he was brushing his teeth. He wasnt. Also there is no blood under the duct tape meaning it was put on before he got his wounds. Yeah, makes sense, you wouldnt want him screaming out for help while you were torturing him. Smart move, Mr. or Mrs. Killer.
OH SNAP. Hajime proving once again he is a solid protagonist by actually asking Sonia all the questions I had. How did you know they werent bombs? Why werent you on your island? Why did you wait a bit before joining us when we thought we were all going to explode? How long did it take to file a restraining order against Kazuichi and can I get one too? I am terribly sorry! I was panicking! Sonia I really hope you arent the killer because youd be the first one in the history of the series that has their breakdown before the trial.
HMMMM. Ok so Sonia says she had previously found the bombs when she was first searching and just didnt tell anyone. Not a good start. She had tried to use one before. Even worse continuation. She tried to use it to blow up the door to the ancient ruins, so she knew they were fireworks. She then went to the fifth island to check and they were all gone, meaning she knew Nagito was actually using fake bombs too.
Okaythat sort of makes sense. Minor issue of WHY DIDNT YOU BRING THIS UP IMMEDIATELY WHEN NAGITO SAID HE FOUND BOMBS WE THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO DIE YOU JERK.
Sonia is pretty frustrated about the bombs being fireworks displays in the flashback they show. Not gonna lie, the way she says god damn it all to hell! is super adorable. She says it like a ten year old reading cue cards in a language they dont really understand. A+ delivery whoever the actress is.
Also in the flashback Monomi is shown hiding in the background behind some vines. Is this a hint to something?
Oh Sonia straight up admits Monomi was there in the dialogue too, not just the visual. This could mean she told the traitor too. I dont remember anyone else being nonchalant about the bombs really. If there was that would be a pretty good clue.
Ohhhhh hold on a second. If Sonia knew the bombs were fakeIm pretty sure that eliminates her from the suspect pool. She doesnt need to torture Nagito knowing the bombs wont go off I dont think.
The weird ominous music was coming from an MP3 player. 1) Where did the killer get an MP3 player 2) How did the killer download music and (least importantly to me) 3) Why were they playing this during the murder? Obviously, the answer to 3 is they like to rock out when theyre stabbing legs and I get that. 1 & 2 are complete mysteries though.
There are also a line of Monokuma cutouts knocked over dominos style heading to where the curtain was. They flashback here to show very clearly it was Akane that kicked the door down. HMMMM. She does this even though everyone is yelling at her to stop and not be an idiot. Two possibilities here: either she is just an idiot and does things without thinking OR there is a reason she intentionally did this and it was to knock the cutouts over.

Im pretty sure that started the fire somehow (they hit the lighter maybe?). So whoever the killer was wouldve wanted the fire to start. Also, now that I think about it, how did the killer get out of here after stacking up all these things so they were blocking the door? Maybe the made the gap just big enough they could squeeze through, but if you gave it a good hard kick it would fly open all the way and knock the cutouts over. HMMMMM.
So when I check out the laptop, Hajime very astutely points out the message mustve been recorded in advance (and flashback Kazuichi confirms it was on a timer). This isinteresting. I feel like this is important and points to Nagito being involved in his own death somehow, but it doesnt get added to my truth bullets so maybe not.
Kazuichi has narrowed down the suspects to anyone who has been to the military base at least once. Thats everyone dumb dumb No not me this is my first time here. Well Im sure we can trust him guys. The killer would have to tell us if they were lying, I think.
Oh hey lazybones Akane didnt leave the murder scene. She is muttering something about the smell when we first came in. Yeah it was probably blood or fire or fear pee or cheaply made cardboard cutouts. Take your pick, lady.
Fuyuhiko uses forensics to deduce the spear that Nagito used came from the wall in Mezumi castle. First, the weight at the end is the same shape. Also the whip is roughly the same length. The head of the spear looks similar too. Oh, and also Plusit looks like one of the spears on the wall is missing. Yeah bud pretty sure we just needed that last one to confirm it but thanks for your detailed spear forensic analysis anyway.
Fuyuhiko and Hajime are STUMPED why the killer would use a knife and spear. No worries bros I already figured the spear part out. You guys just take care of the rest and well be good.

Ok so this poison takes effect immediately and is highly deadly when vaporized. That sounds bad. Chiaki thinks he might have been setting up a trap but I dunno. I check the Monokuma File and cause of death isnt listed. It gets added to the truth bullets so maybe it was this that killed him somehow.

Stuff is going on but Im still focusing on the fact Chiaki has a diary written in crayon. Thats the biggest twist of the case so far.
