It's presented as "solo RPGs", but most of them come across more like "Writing Exercises for Dummies". Between the writers and RPers here, I figured someone might be interested.

I lol'd, tbh... then saw you were being rather literal. Some of the concepts are kinda cool -- like The Machine (where it has an after-the-fact roleplaying element) -- but others are kinda sketchy.

And his fucking bandit poem was terrible. And how the fuck did this guy not proofread the cards in his video? He had "Along Among the Stars". Oh, and that letter-writing one just seems pathetic.

It turns out all I did need was a new power cord for my Playstation 4. It was a ten dollar purchase off Amazon, and it fixed all of my problems. Bank Robber attachment the new cord, and it turned on like a champ.

The dumb thing is that my tummy wpund is bothering me slightly today enough that I'm going to wait until tomorrow to play some games.

Why do cool things have to be so expensive?

https://www.sideshow.com/collectibles/marvel-juggernaut-sideshow-collectibles-300247

There's an exclusive version -- which basically just includes a figurine of Kitty Pryde phasing through the ground -- for $40 more which is already sold out.

Of course, if I was going to get a Juggernaut statue, I'd probably just go for the Bowen one which I should be able to get for cheaper than that (despite the fact it's long out of production)

At least books on a bookcase demonstrate that you read. After moving 2 tons of books 3 times, I adopted the Kindle Paperwhite and never looked back.

$40 more than the standard edition. The standard edition is already $1,350. And I call it a "figurine" because, as you'll see in the image, it's tiny. It's basically just Kitty's head, arm, and part of her torso. (Because it's meant to accessorize the Juggernaut statue.)

Most full-size comic statues -- excluding the PVCs (DST is an okay budget option) -- are going to run you at least $200, even some things in the 1/10 scale (by contrast, lower-end anime statues are usually in the 1/7 scale iirc).

Prior to ordering/pre-ordering that Hasbro Pulse Sentinel, I think the most I'd spent on a collectible was maybe $150. When I saw the Hasbro Pulse Sentinel on BBTS, I was willing to pay the $500 they were looking for... and thankfully I looked into it (because BBTS had a note at the bottom that they were providing it for people who couldn't get it directly) and found that Hasbro Pulse was offering it for $350. (And the first collectible I spent more than $50 on (iirc, I paid $80 for my first one) was ToyBiz's Sentinel BAF on ebay back in 2007 or 2008 -- I wasn't really amenable to that sort of stuff when it came out which wound up costing me a bit more.)

I'm 90% sure people would just display the figurine with the statue. Otherwise it's the same as any other work of art. Why do people own statues and paintings? Generally because they like looking at them. For the rich, there's also a prestige factor. I guess with something like this, there could be a geek prestige factor. Personally I would just want something like this because I enjoy it, though.

Not sure what you're driving at. Books and collectibles are vastly different things. If you're suggesting you just own books to show off, that's kinda stupid. Most people pick up books to read them. I own probably somewhere between 4-10k books -- including some manga volumes and TPBs -- but everything I've either read or intend to read (as opposed to using as a decoration). You can't read a collectible. You can only look at them -- or, in the case of something with articulation -- pose them as well. Those are decorations.

A display of books is basically enjoying them for their cover. If that's the case, why not just get a painting? >_>

I've never understood why people feel the need to "demonstrate that they read". Like the sort of person who buys "clever" books to leave on their coffee table to impress visitors, in spite of the fact that they'll never read them. I get the premise, but honestly, it just makes me think less of them as a person than if they'd never read anything at all and were just open about it.

I don't think people who ACTUALLY have bookcases full of books keep them to "virtue signal" their literacy (literacy signaling?). I think they (we) do it because we like reading, and have a fuckton of books.

I know I read tons, and actually reread books I've already read, so I never, ever get rid of books (I mean, I'm in my 40s and I still own books from when I was 10). But my aunt reads books once and moves on, so she tends to buy a book, read it, and then donate it to the local library or pass it on to someone else to read.

I don't think I've ever known anyone who owned bookcases full of books solely in a decorative sense, in the same way people will have figurines or knick-knacks. I'm not saying they don't exist (rare book collectors probably fall more into that sphere), but there's almost always another motive to own book collections.

Ironically, the same aunt who doesn't keep her books used to have a knick-knack cabinet that she used to keep little penguin figurines in.

Weather Dominator or not the two dueling hurricanes have completely missed me along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. They both went west of here, or are going west of here in the case of Laura, and as usual, since Katrina, have gone west of here and either destroyed Louisiana or South West Texas.

Either way, Oregon and I are safe, and we will just have to deal with the pandemic and my healing stomach surgery wound. Overall, we dodged another bullet. I hope everyone else is doing well.

On a separate note: I have maybe ten physical books, a couple of Dickens reprints directly from England and a copy of Sherlock Holmes, but I have video games and figures on display in my room and at my house. Plus a lot of comic books in my garage. I don't feel the need to impress strangers or guest with my book knowledge either. Plus I don't have a proper library to display them anyway.

And my physical books are, at this point, all boxed up (in organized fashion) in my garage, as there is very little room for them in the apartment. Thus, my garage has long since become my reading room.

And, in dork news: Been learning a thing or two about replacing lithium-ion batteries in order to give my GBAs and my original DS a new lease on life. The PSP, unfortunately, is going to be tethered to a wall forever.

Whenever I've seen a replacement battery for a gba, I've picked it up. Realistically, though, those spare batteries will probably go bad by the time I need to replace.

As for the DS, I took the battery from my broken one to use on a DS I overpaid on that had a dead battery... and proceeded to misplace the cap.

when they sweep the area with cadaver dogs, they'll dig down to the pig carcass, figure it was a false hit, fill the hole back in and move on.

nobody will ever look at the area again until it turns up on some kind of unsolved mysteries type show 30 years later. by then you'll have dimentia and your grandkids will be feeding you applesauce.

I wanted to post a clip that I only saw in the trailer of a movie where a bunch of people on a road trip talk about picking somebody up and one comments, "No, that's how a lot of horror movies start," and the other remarks, "It's also how a lot of pornos start!", but I realized I can't remember anything else besides that.

I had kinda assumed it might be Eurotrip -- which I will watch someday -- but I don't think it is.

Look, I can't support the killing of random worthless strangers, but I will say that having the directions to an out of state pig farm is very handy. Sometimes you may need to remove the teeth dependent on how hungry the pigs are, and if you do that make sure to leave no DNA evidence behind of your teeth extraction. All trophies should be kept off site. All cellphones should be left at home for alibi purposes. Any extra materials you need you buy in cash, out of state, months in advance.

But these tips are hypothetical. Good hunting. I mean don't hurt people or something.

I was going to link to some panels from the pig chapter of "You Will Hear the Voices of the Dead" (love the manga, but I STILL can't fucking remember the Japanese name -- or even the character names -- on a consistent basis, other than the ghost girl's name including Ryoko), but that feels like a bit too much effort and I'm pretty sure I can't just link to the chapter because piracy or whatever is against the TOS.

Well, one of them was Edward Furlong who, when he was younger, played John Connor in T2 and had a few other roles. (I only recognize the name because I saw Cruel World where iirc he was presented as being a big deal or something. Guy looked like shit at the time and that was just 2005.)

Sam Huntington, who I didn't recognize until I pulled up his wiki, played Josh on Being Human as well as Jimmy Olsen in Superman Returns. (Among other things.)

Some of the others either don't have wikipedia entries, have incomplete entries, or don't have photos on the entries.

The fun thing about not having Amazon Prime is bundling everything I want into batches >_> So because there were two things I wanted to pick up (those previously mentioned Pop!s, which would run me about $20, a bit shy of free shipping), I wind up having about $150 of unrelated stuff in the order that I'd been meaning to pick up and all of this is despite the fact that I've been cleaning and realizing I may have too much stuff.

In other news, I watched a clip from Star Wars Rebels and noticed that the show goes waaaaaaaay overboard with facial ticks. The characters can't seem to finish a sentence without moving their eyes or turning their face. I imagine that'll be stupidly distracting whenever I do someday watch it. (And I still haven't seen the new Clone Wars series just yet... partly because I wanted to watch the accompanying movie first then the show... which I imagine might all be collected on D+. I'll have to check later. And I'm not watching the Mandalorian until the show wraps.)

Oh, and the other thing is I'm finally starting to wonder how much media I'll watch/play again. I know that I can forget decent portions of even things I've watched a few times (although there are obvious exceptions) and I imagine that helps me enjoy them again, but sometimes it feels like having seen them once is a deterrent (other than specific scenes)

I think most people have a specific image that comes to mind when cancer is mentioned. So to find out someone who didn't fit that image had it is probably additional shock.

Like (personal spoiler) my own mom got cancer and it was a lot more similar to what one might imagine too. She slept a lot and generally felt completely like crap, understandably so! I'll admit I was surprised to find out he had been sick myself, because it hasn't occurred to me either that, despite hearing stories about people hiding it, that it was something someone could hide like that.

I don't think it would be that surprising. Sure, mortality is low for younger people and worse for the elderly, and you'd assume he'd be in shape enough (just based on the Marvel films) that he wouldn't be tripping any of the red flags like obesity, asthma, blood pressure, diabetes, etc... but there's always the possibility of underlying conditions aggravating symptoms and causing complications.

Hell, there've been casualties across all age groups, including much younger than 43. Sure, it might only be an average 1-in-10000 chance for his age group, but that's not really all THAT unbelievable. Especially since it's been mentioned that Covid seems to have a greater impact on the black population than others.

I mean, hell, he was only three months older than me, and I freely acknowledge I could theoretically die if I caught it (even if my friend who caught it, who is about eight months younger than me) came through relatively fine.

I think the main difference though is that Covid is something you can catch, suffer, and die from in the span of about two weeks, so it can come out of nowhere and take you completely by surprise, whereas we tend to assume that there'll be visible symptoms and prior history from something more major and long-term like cancer.

I do agree context comes into play, though. Like how, with wrestling, almost every time you hear about a wrestler dying young, you almost always assume it's something drug-related (or, at least, that used to be the case).

Covid affects people differently, but African Americans, such as myself and my brother, don't fare too well when compared to Caucasians.

A perfect example of this is Oreon who tested positive for covid a month ago. He got very sick and had to go to the emergency room at least twice, coughing non stop and short of breath. He did not have any underlying conditions, and is extremely healthy, goes to the gym every day. His girlfriend, who is white, and has a thyroid condition, also tested positive for covid, but hasn't been sick a single day, not even the sniffles.

The lesson is don't get covid... just in case.

Did you remember that he was in Full Metal Jacket?

Not sure I've seen it (or that much of it)

Or Dishonored 2?

Haven't played it. Plus wouldn't that just be VA work?

I don't think it would be that surprising. Sure, mortality is low for younger people and worse for the elderly, and you'd assume he'd be in shape enough (just based on the Marvel films) that he wouldn't be tripping any of the red flags like obesity, asthma, blood pressure, diabetes, etc... but there's always the possibility of underlying conditions aggravating symptoms and causing complications.

How many young rich dudes have died from COVID? The handful of young people who died from it were poor or average income.

Notwithstanding that lately I've become worried about Danny DeVito, after seeing an Always Sunny episode that no-kayfabe pointed out he's 75 (and I was like, "wait, are they just exaggerating for comedic effect?", and then I looked it up and, sure enough, he's 75). While he's rich -- and therefore less likely to get it -- he's also old. And I can't imagine Always Sunny without him... well, I guess, I *can* because season 1 didn't have him, but the point is it'd suck (and it might suck even worse if they brought in a Walden Schmidt)

I usually assume it's a stunt gone wrong or the resulting damage thereof.

that Vincent D'Onofrio -- the MCU Daredevil -- was also Goren on L&O:CI

While not a fan of L&O:CI, I did recognize him, which made his role as kingpin even more amazing when I watched it. He plays one of my favorite villians of all time (not kingpin in general, just HIS kingpin). Best part of Daredevil in my opinion was his character (but there were lots of great parts).

To be fair, not many have, but it's a pretty fun little sci-fi. Vince is easily the most famous actor in it despite not being the star, which was Gretchen Moll and Dollar Store Brendan Fraser.

I started watching Castlevania on Netflix again. I watched season 1 like two years ago, while waiting for new episodes, and it continues to be fantastic. (Dracula is awesome, and I'm rooting for him as humanity is crap.) *Shut up P.O.* My wife tells me my faith in humanity is stupid every single day. I don't need it from you too.

I mention this for two reasons.

1. It's a really good high quality show.

2. I forgot that for a second straight weekend WWE had a Pay Per View on the WWW Network.

I'm not sure why Papa Vince is doing it this way, but 2020 is jacked up anyway so why not. If anyone has seen Castlevania or watched wrestling or seen the spoilers for Payback we can talk about it in the following post.

Black Panther died a hero and a king. R.I.P.

As for Castlevania, I am a big fan of the show. Season 1 is good, Season 2 is great, and Season 3 is ... divisive, but I thought it was great, too. Season 4 should be a winner, too, but I doubt the show will continue after that, since Warren Ellis got me-too'd and let go by Netflix.

I like the redhead vampress in S3. Curious to see where her arc goes, and if they give Alucard new purpose.

Rumors are that they deliberately double-dipped in an attempt to burn out the potential audience for All Out next week.

Like, Vince feels like people will drop the money for SummerSlam and Payback, then feel like they've spent too much money already this month and will skip All Out.

Which sort of ignores that most people don't watch WWE PPVs as actual PPVs as much as they just watch the network (which means they only paid $10 to see both PPVs anyway, and the second one was essentially "free" to them), and that a PPV with one week build up is likely to be the one most people skip rather than the one a week later that is AEW's main PPV of the year... but most of the narrative over the last few years is about just how out of touch Vince is and how he's taking a long, slow slide into madness anyway, so it kind of makes sense from that perspective.
