Humanity, still plagued by the modern day plague, are trapped...trapped like deer inside of our homes, our faces hidden away from view, our food drive thrus and food delivery apps pushed to their digital and physical limits.

It wasn't supposed to be this way.

It can't be this way.

Yet it is.

28 Geeks later, and not one of them have developed a cure. How much longer will we suffer? With the Internet, television, YouTube, TikTok (For now) video game, movies, comic books, digital entertainment, and old fashioned books, we are desperately running out of content. There hasn't been a new video game released in Hours!

HOURS GEEKS! WHOLE HOURS!

Damn it Nerds, I'm a Geek, not a doctor!

I guess the only thing we can do is post in this topic to keep the hope alive.

Opening Question: What color (Green) Lantern Ring best fits with your personality or world view? (Green, Blue, Violet, Indigo, Red, Orange, and Yellow)

Black & White don't count. (You're not dead or Saints)

What would be your secondary color and why?

Wrap up from, "Life After Geeks" in the following post!

Red or Yellow, easily. Mainly just depends on what sort of day the ring catches me.

Though to get really technical, the implication is that the Red Rings don't just look for rage, they look for a very specific type of rage (sort of the rage of injustice combined with righteous moral indignation, so you're not just an anger engine like, say, the Hulk, but a vengeance-fueled vigilante who mostly goes after a very specific sort of target). So I might lean more Yellow than Red.

I actually went out for Halloween as a Sinestro Corps member years ago.

Or ARE we?

Though to be fair, you don't really need to be a saint to be a White Lantern - the first was Sinestro and the second was Hal, and they both kind of suck. And the White Entity itself was kind of a dick.

You mostly just have to be a "Champion of Life", by whatever standards the Entity chooses to judge you.

Solution: don't take the damned ring off.

Though it's possible to lose the ring and survive. It's been established that you can apparently use a blue ring to somehow regenerate the heart you lose when the red ring takes over, and Guy Gardner once had himself slowly healed by Mogo by some means that was never entirely explained. The implication seems to be, if you can find some means by which to replace or regenerate your heart, you'll be (mostly) fine.

Sometime between 6pm and 7:20 pm yesterday, I lost internet for the rest of the night (until I think 11am or 12pm -- I had glanced at my connection at 10am, it was still out, and then was kinda wrapped up in some other stuff; unfortunately it meant missing a rocket balloon in Go if it did get restored a bit before noon).

Being without internet is tough mostly because it's usually a constant in my professional and personal life. Cell service sucks around my house, so it's my primary method of communication with friends, etc (I would say family, but I haven't talked to my brother in 5 months now -- just a matter of he doesn't call/text, I don't call/text (although I know they're up to from his wife's Facebook posts) -- although I suppose I keep up with a few cousins, as well as the folks). At any rate, that reliance makes it feel a bit like you're cut off from the world when it's not available. (As well as the smaller issues when I kept trying to do more basic things, only to realize I couldn't without internet -- such as emailing myself a file so I could work on it on another computer (which I guess I could use a thumbdrive for but... ehhhh....)

Like I noted in the last topic, I have a mountain of DVDs -- including things I haven't watched -- yet what did I do? I saw what I had stored locally on iTunes on my computer and, because I guess Deadpool hadn't downloaded, I wound up re-watching The Dark Knight... although this time I got bored when Batman goes all NSA, stopped it, and then started Hobo with a Shotgun (which I watched a few months ago), felt bored, and stopped that as well. I guess this also reminds me how used to multi-tasking I am, since I find it hard to watch something without also doing other things. (Then there's the whole issue that only one of my working laptops has a DVD player anyway, and that's the one with more games installed.)

I finally wound up playing Skyrim again (after some UMvC3 while watching TDK). I couldn't remember what I had been working on, but it's kind of a pick-up-and-play RPG so I went to go explore a few locations after finishing a shorter quest. After some shorter things, and trying to find a hidden chest in Broken Oars Cavern without any luck (unless the chest I found *was* the one referenced in the journal, but there wasn't much loot in it), I wound in Torvald's Cavern (or whatever) while trying to find a mine to clear of spiders for another small quest (again, why the internet is helpful here as well) and realized that it's probably the entrance to some Dwemer ruins... and, as I get further along, I'm starting to think that it might be the same location I first encountered Dwemer ruins during the first time I played.

At any rate, now that I have internet, I can finally order that sentinel (and I realize that the shipping will probably be $50-100 given the size, weight, etc).

The yellow lanterns / Sinestro Corp always appealed to me since it's a fear-based faction and I've long been a horror fan. However, the Orange Light of Avarice also speaks to my personality as a collector / hoarder.

I guess I answered Yellow or Orange for the first question, so logically the second would be Yellow or Orange. Green (will) and Blue (hope) also rank up there. Out of all of them, Red would be the weakest fit.

Remember that Xbox 360 game, Too Human? The game that tanked because the controls were complete and utter ass? (All the combat moves were mapped to the right analog stick, and couldn't be changed.) The game looked great, and the story was passable, but the controls ruined the entire experience...

Well, the PS5 exclusive, Godfall, reminds me of Too Human, except the controls seem to be working. The developers are calling it a "Looter/Slasher" and that's a cute catch phrsse, but I believe it's the sequel to Too Human that fixes most of the problems of that game.

Godfall looks fun, but I don't want to play alone, and I wonder if I could get Oreon and Bank Robber to play it with me this fall. If not , then it will just be "Tooo Human" and I'll just play more Spider-Man.

I don't actually remember it. My only awareness of it comes from the fact that it was a Silicon Knights game - so it always got mentioned whenever I'd read something that was talking about how Silicon Knights went out of business (meaning we'd never be getting a sequel to Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem). Or how games like X-Men: Destiny got pulled and pulped because of the lawsuit with Epic.

I think the extent of my knowledge about the game comes from this:

tbh, picked up Destiny during a Blackest Friday from BBuy years ago for $10, still haven't played it. At any rate, I guess this might explain why a lot of other games vanished at the same time?

This. Larfleeze and Lex Luthor duked it out at one point. Plus iirc the nature of the Orange Lantern means that the more people who have rings, the weaker the power is.

Rumors out of Capcom are that the direction of Street Fighter 6 was not great. The game had some weird tag mechanics that just didn't mesh with the traditional 2D one on one fighting known to the series. Play testers, developers, and higher ups were not pleased with the game or Yoshinori Ono's directing and direction. Thus the game was scrapped and they're starting back over from scratch. In the process Ono was demoted within Capcom and is no longer directing Street Fighter 6.

Considering that Street Fighter V was a mess from launch Capcom didn't want a repeat of the backlash of that game and Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite.

This is why a whole extra year of Street Fighter 5 content was just announced. It is going to give the new developers a few years to properly develop SF6. Originally the last update to SF5 was goibg to be the Seth DLC pack, but with development not going well on SF6 Capcom decided to keep supporting SF5 for another year.

I loved the game and had no prob with the controls. It's the only reason I kept my 360 for so long (Eventually finally sold it). I still miss that game. Playing as a berzerker was awesome (less fun on the ranged parts though).

It's not as bad as some people make it out to be, but it's not really all that robust. If you're in the mood for a casual button-mashing hack-and-slash sort of game with a very loose grip on X-Men continuity it can be fun enough.

I liked it enough to 100% it, so it can't be THAT terrible.

Between starting to watch a Batman documentary (Legends of the Dark Knight) and randomly stumbling onto some Silver Age Batman covers (one of which had Penguin rather badly disguised as Batman and, while trying to get a look at a cleaner version of the cover, I saw a lot of vintage Penguin covers and was reminded of his old character style -- been forever since I've seen it), so at some point I'll go on a Silver Age Batman kick.

Oh, and I finally saw the character roster for Primal Rage II. Small wonder it never got off the ground. Not only did they move away from using monsters/dinos, the human character designs were nothing special. That said, if I'm ever near Brookfield, Illinois, I'll have to stop into that arcade.

I don't expect artistry with most licensed games. However, XML1 was great, Capcom's X-Men & Marvel fighting games were great, I loved Wolverine's Revenge, etc. Then there were a lot of serviceable games as well. Can't say I've heard much about Destiny one way or another, but I'm sure it's not too far off from a lot of other X-Men titles in that genre.

That said, it's not super-high on the queue and I picked up Spider-Man: Edge of Time iirc that same Black Friday which, given that it has 2099, would take priority. And even though I have a monstrously large queue, whenever I do start using my ps3 again I kinda suspect I'll just do a SR2 replay first. Watched the cutscenes again the other month which, instead of satiating my SR2 craving, just made me want to replay it even more. (Then there's some chance I'll replay SR3 and SR4 after, although I've never liked SR3 as much.)

It's not as good as the Legends games. It's clearly trying to be more, at least in the narrative sense, but it kind of falls down and doesn't quite feel as meaningful. For some people, it also isn't going to help matters that it's trying to tell a story involving original characters (meaning you don't play as any of the actual X-Men), and most of the voice-acting is a bit wank.

Again, it's kind of a game you can enjoy if you're mostly turning your brain off and going with the flow, or are just looking for a time-waster, but it's not something that's going to utterly wow you and leave you feeling like you've played the best comic-based game ever.

Yoshinori Ono quit Caocom this morning.

https://www.destructoid.com/stories/street-fighter-producer-yoshinori-ono-leaving-capcom-after-near-30-year-tenure-600031.phtml

Those rumors of him being demoted off Street Fighter V and off SF VI were true, and he decided to take his ball and go home instead of working with the new crew to get SF VI right.

Personally, I don't like the game play of SF IV or SF V, and with this rumored tag mechanic of SF VI, I'm not sure I was going to love SF VI either. A lot of it may have to do with the nerve damage in my left hand and arm, and not being able to play fightibg games well anymore, but I didn't like the game play of either of his SF games before I got sick.

I still enjoy the hell out of SF III: Third Impact, which may be the best fighting game of all time. I also enjoy the hell out of Guilty Gear as well, so it's just a SF IV and V thing.

To be fair, if I was demoted off a project I probably wouldn't feel an overwhelming desire to help other people successfully complete it either. I'd be more inclined to feel an overwhelming desire to tell my bosses to go fuck themselves with the rusty pitchfork. In the ass.

"Take your ball and go home" sort of implies you don't get your own way so you've decided to be an asshole about things. Quitting after you've been demoted is a lot more justified.

Call me He-Man because I HAVE THE POWER!!!

Electricity went out at around 8pm and I didn't get it back until a bit after 1am. Given that I'm on a well (which I'm sure I've mentioned many times), it meant I didn't even have running water which always sucks.

My Switch had a reasonable charge on it so used that for a bit and thankfully I had some Detective Conan episodes on my phone.

Of course, the bigger issue is that Windows's forced update was finally forced on me because I wanted to shut down my laptops but you couldn't do that without letting it be updated (or having the power go out). As expected, the latest "update" just seems like more bloatware and pushing of shitty Microsoft products, as it tried to get me to use IE/Edge again. This is one of the biggest reasons I don't like messing with those updates, that and the fact that each update likely includes some exploits that make your computer less secure.

"Trapped like deer " is a reference to my favorite episode of Boy Meets World. It was the episode where Janitor Bud was leaving work early everyday to go place bets on the ponies. Everyday he would have Joey clock out early for him, and Corey remarked, "We're trapped, trapped like deer until 3 o'clock, well not all of us."

And that's the reference.

When I was nearly dead 6 years ago I would do my therapy and physical rehab while watching "BMW" and the episode and deer reference came up. Since I was literally trapped in thr hospital the line stuck with me again.

I'm a 90's kid. I watched TGIF with my mom and brother. BMW, Family Matters, Step by Step, Perfect Strangers, Just the 10 of Us. It was my Friday night until Highlander came on in syndication at 9 and Next Gen came on at ten.

*watching Lower Decks in the background*

I am surprised that there is already a Street Fighter VI in the offing, considering that Capcom still seems to be doing things for SF5, but I should not be surprised at this point. *shrugs* I enjoyed SF4 (... and its derivatives, especially Super SF4), but not to the same level as its predecessors, and SF3 remains the most fine-tuned sub-series of the lot, IMO.

And I thought the X-Men Legends games -- followed by Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2 -- were really good. Surprised that it took so long for a MUA3, and double surprised that XML stopped at 2.

Given that he worked there for over 30 years and it likely wasn't his first job, this could also just be retirement >_>

When this kinda crap happens I A: Go to bed and wake up to a fixed issue (hopefully). B: Go out and do something (you know once a year) C: Communicate with my home planet and inform them on the recent changes on earth.

I hate the windows updates, I have been getting a few of them recently and it's seriously annoying. Never does anything good, and like you said, creates problems or exploits etc that can be used (and no, I'm not freaking using edge!!)

Win10 has singlehandedly turned my sister from an ardent 'hey, update as soon as possible' person to a 'wait to make sure all the breaking issues are patched out and never update right away' person.

She moved away from Windows, and all my problems with Windows is why I no longer have a computer that can play games. Well to an extent, that and old house killing my Mac.

Spouse is the only one on Windows now. And that's mostly because they have a gaming rig and won't buy a different computer. That one was a gift that's gotta last a while before being gifted again.

Huh. Guess that never really stuck out in my mind since I don't remember it.

I didn't like SF4's move to kinda-3D graphics and things just look even uglier in 5. However, I like the franchise so I kinda put up with that.

I kinda saw the franchise getting progressively worse. XML1 was amazing in most regards, and it had an incredible freedom of movement because they didn't try to balance things (for instance, you could teleport through large segments of the game).

XML2 went to these weirder, kinda crappier graphics and restricted a lot of the first game's freedoms (such as blocking you from teleporting through some areas the game wanted you to unlock through other means).

Then we get MUA1, which *really* hated our freedoms. I notably one segment in Asgard where there's this statue or something you have to topple to cross a section with lava. Logically, you could just fly over it (or, in earlier games, use a power to create a bridge). What's the point of giving us flyers if we can't fly over obstacles? And it's even stupider because iirc there are minor obstacles it lets you fly over. (That said, MUA's Masters of Evil were pretty fun.)

MUA2 was kind of a mess, partly because it had two separate campaigns yet most of the events felt like reskins (iirc, same areas, similar bosses (for example, in one place you'll fight Goliath or Yellowjacket, depending on your faction). Then the two plotlines eventually merged. Granted, I think part of the reason why it felt like a step down even from MUA1 is because the dev might have changed at that point. Plus the main antagonist kinda switched and wasn't as exciting anyway.

A) I don't sleep much, so that's not an option.

B) It's the middle of a pandemic and at night, so that wasn't going to work. Even if I just wanted to go for a walk, the streets would be totally dark since the houses are all off.

C) I mostly use my computer / internet to communicate, so that's kinda off the table. Even if I were to actually use my cell, it only has a limited charge and I need that for emergencies.

Besides electronics, I technically had the option of reading, but it's annoying to read by flashlight or other portable lighting device. And I think I have a small portable lightsource designed reading in the dark (although I don't know where), it doesn't really improve the experience much. I really need a well-lit room with minimal distractions to make a book worthwhile.

If you dont' have one, I'd recommend getting a kindle oasis or something similar. It's great for power outages etc, holds a gazillion books, and it's water proof, so it's useful even if you prefer reading an actual book (since you can read places that you can be splashed etc, don't need to worry about rain etc.).

They can be pretty cheap when on sale, and it's basically a 100% backup method of keeping yourself occupied even if power goes out/no internet etc. The charge lasts about a week before you need to plug it in, so eventually you would be screwed in an apocalypse and have to read real books lol, but other than that your set.

I have a Kindle Fire 7 but I don't like it. It's also never charged because the only time I might use it is for stuff like this and, tbh, it's not like it has an unlimited battery either.

The kinda sub-issue was that it wasn't great with the PDFs I was getting from Project Gutenberg. At this point, I *could* use free books I got off Amazon, but then I'd have to connect it to my Amazon and that would make it a security vulnerability.

I think I was the only one in my family that watched Boy Meets World. Such an underrated show.

>_>

It was a popular show that ran seven years, had a pretty good sendoff, and inspired a sequel spinoff that itself lasted 3 years (and some of the original show's cast). All things considered, it did exceptionally well for itself, especially for a 90s sitcom.

Oh, on the subject of the other series (because I kinda didn't get into it)

I remember loving Step by Step but, other than the theme song (and the fact it involved sets of step kids, a la Brady Bunch), I barely recall any details about the show itself.

Family Matters was obviously great, even if they went overboard with Urkel more and more as the series progressed.

I'm not sure I watched Perfect Strangers or Just the 10 of Us (which I think might have been a spinoff of something else I didn't watch).

It was a spin-off of Growing Pains. The coach from that show became the main character/father on the spin-off (which was mostly about his daughters).

I definitely watched Perfect Strangers (and Just the Ten of Us, and Growing Pains). By the time ABC actually sort of coalesced their shows into the TGIF block (with shows like Family Matters and Step-By-Step), I was already moved on to other things (probably involving a shift to mostly watching stuff on Fox as it was starting up).

Honestly, I'm still a huge fan of the Paperwhite. I really think the humble Paperwhite doesn't get enought love.

its a pure reading device. no distractions. no notifications, no alerts, just a solid e-ink device. battery lasts 2-4 weeks, and its approximately 2 tons lighter than the paper books i lugged to 3 different apartments in a decade. good in any lighting conditions. you can send a document to it in a pinch.

i was initially reluctant to abandon paper books. i still miss the weight of them and the sense of how "deep" you were getting into the pages, but losing the tactile bits of bookery and getting deep into the texts themselves is good too.

Microsoft delayed Halo: Infinite this afternoon. Probably because the game looks like do-do, and the internet has shredded it like some chicken in a nice taco (yum tacos).

That announcement was sandwiched (yum sammiches) between Microsoft announcing that the Sex Box will be released in November, where you can't play new next generation games, but upgraded versions of older, current generation games. Which is definitely worth 4 to 5 hundred dollars.

This is just an early prediction, but Sony and the PS5 will win this generation in the console wars too.

? Sony always wins. Maybe if Nintendo went back to their roots and got companies to release a lot of RPGs they could win.

That's not really their roots, though. They didn't become known as a RPG console until the SNES.
