$40 seems cheap. Anime ones are like $200.

$40 more than the standard edition. The standard edition is already $1,350. And I call it a "figurine" because, as you'll see in the image, it's tiny. It's basically just Kitty's head, arm, and part of her torso. (Because it's meant to accessorize the Juggernaut statue.)

Most full-size comic statues -- excluding the PVCs (DST is an okay budget option) -- are going to run you at least $200, even some things in the 1/10 scale (by contrast, lower-end anime statues are usually in the 1/7 scale iirc).

Prior to ordering/pre-ordering that Hasbro Pulse Sentinel, I think the most I'd spent on a collectible was maybe $150. When I saw the Hasbro Pulse Sentinel on BBTS, I was willing to pay the $500 they were looking for... and thankfully I looked into it (because BBTS had a note at the bottom that they were providing it for people who couldn't get it directly) and found that Hasbro Pulse was offering it for $350. (And the first collectible I spent more than $50 on (iirc, I paid $80 for my first one) was ToyBiz's Sentinel BAF on ebay back in 2007 or 2008 -- I wasn't really amenable to that sort of stuff when it came out which wound up costing me a bit more.)

At least books on a bookcase demonstrate that you read. After moving 2 tons of books 3 times, I adopted the Kindle Paperwhite and never looked back.

If that's your motivation for owning books, I kinda feel like you're picking them up for the wrong reason.

What do figurines show?

I'm 90% sure people would just display the figurine with the statue. Otherwise it's the same as any other work of art. Why do people own statues and paintings? Generally because they like looking at them. For the rich, there's also a prestige factor. I guess with something like this, there could be a geek prestige factor. Personally I would just want something like this because I enjoy it, though.
