If there is another Tron sequel, hook that directly to my veins, please and thank you.

I have yet to see the Birds of Prey movie (because I enjoyed the original Suicide Squad, and so decided to give the reboot / sequel a little space because I apparently have bad taste), but the positive buzz is encouraging.

A comment from PO above piqued my curiosity, so I looked it up, and ... yes, there are Marvel superheroes called Snowflake and Safespace in a New Warriors team that has subsequently been panned. *shakes head* I mean, Marvel has introduced young heroes before (e.g. New X-Men: Academy X and Avengers: The Initiative), but they tend to never back them up, and end up killing them off (e.g. New X-Men: Childhood's End and Avengers Arena). Would not surprise me to see the same thing happen to this lot.

I'm down with horror elements, but wasn't Aquaman 1 a light-hearted romp? Still need to see it and Shazam. More interested in seeing Shazam. I guess those doesn't pop up on streaming any more because DC has its own service now (and I kinda assume that the MCU films aren't going to appear on any other platforms going forward, well unless they have a non-exclusivity thing going with D+).

Speaking of horror, I just learned that Sam Raimi is attached to direct the Dr. Strange sequel. That decision is a multiverse of madness in itself >_>

That's pretty much the only reason anyone knew who James Wan was before Aquaman, though. His entire filmography is basically just Aquaman, The Fast and the Furious 7, and then like a dozen horror movies.

It's probably a case where Aquaman was literally the most successful of all the DCEU movies (yes, really), so Warner Bros is more comfortable trusting him to have more control over things, and he wants to lean more into horror because it's one of the few things he really knows how to do.

Though to be honest, Aquaman seems like the kind of film that could actually do horror pretty well. There's some borderline Lovecraftian shit going on in the ocean if you go deep enough, and there've been some pretty dark Aquaman stories over the years. The real problem with Aquaman is that nobody really knows anyone from his Rogue's Gallery other than a) his own relatives, and b) Black Manta, so you run out of potential villains for films (at least ones people won't think are lame) REALLY quickly.

If they actually have a villain in mind (and honestly, I have literally no idea who it would be), I could see them doing a Cthulhu/Dagon sort of story as part of it to make things a bit more robust.

If we were talking Namor rather than Aquaman, I'd say I could see them going a feud with Lemuria/Mu/Thule, but that's never really been an Aquaman thing (that I know of). Though I suppose the closest to that they could get is if they went with the post-Brightest Day storyline (before New 52 ruined everything) where it turned out Mera was actually from a secret alternate water dimension and had actually come to Earth to kill Arthur. But then that just makes Aquaman's in-laws the villains, so we're right back to the whole "his own relatives" deal.

On the other hand, that particular storyline was also a) written by Geoff Johns, and b) introduced Kaldur'ahm/Aqualad/"Blackualad", so I could easily see them wanting to adapt it in the films.

I remember the comic crossover where Aquaman defeated Namor by crushing him with a whale.

Which was arguably incredibly stupid, because they're both insanely strong and tough. And even aside from the fact that getting hit by a whale shouldn't have phased either of them (the biggest whale weighs about 200 tons, but Namor's literally fought the Hulk and Thor, while Aquaman held his own against Hercules, and both have lifted ships that weighed WAAAY more than that), Aquaman's ability to talk to fish (the one thing he really has over Namor) doesn't really magically allow him to get said fish to fling itself into the air with crushing force.

But if I'm remembering right, that crossover was the Marvel vs DC one, where most of the fights were determined by fan votes, so the entire thing was kind of farcical anyway. Like Wolverine (who was pretty much the most popular character ever at the time) beating Lobo in spite of that pretty much being impossible canonically.

Metalsonic66 posted...

I don't disagree!

But Namor's rights were so tied up with Universal even outside of the Fox X-Men deal, that it was kind of impossible for them to ever do anything with him. And since Aquaman has always been the more well-known character to casual audiences (and got his movie out first), it feels like any attempt at a Namor movie for the next few decades is just going to get people complaining about how he's a copy of Aquaman.

I feel like he's the sort of character they might have to use as an antagonist in a Disney+ TV show or something, where he can sort of establish the "he's a jerk, but still kind of a good guy" tone, and maybe help pump up his popularity before they could push him into the full MCU.

Lobo's powerset is a lot like Martian Manhunter's in that it varies wildly depending on the writer. Sometimes he's just merely bodybuilder strong, other times he can go toe to toe with Superman to the point of exhaustion. The only real constants are that he IS for all intents and purposes immortal and has regeneration at least on par with most of Marvel's notable Weapon X program graduates. He's also immune to Ghost Rider's powers.

On average, I'd put him in the same tier as Etrigan. Not an existential threat to Earth per se, but nobody really wakes up in the morning hoping to cross his path.

Plus, their strength should be more or less even, and all the Hellfire is going to do is annoy Lobo and that's if he's not feeling frisky that day. They both are functionally immortal and can regenerate. You'd have to imagine at some point that they would both realize the futility of their fight and head to the nearest pub for a pint.

They've been talking about making once since the 1990s. Every few years it comes up, and someone mentions it's still being planned. It's apparently doomed to be stuck in development hell forever.

The real irony is, it's based on a book, and the book was part of a series. So if they did remake it and the remake did well enough, it could jumpstart a new franchise (which is what studios today have wet dreams about). They've got at least four books and a bunch of short stories/comic books they could adapt, so someone could even spin it off into a TV show on something like HBO or Netflix (though the last time they tried to turn it into a TV show, it tanked).
I have an almost knee-jerk reaction to remakes and spin-offs, as I've stated before, but Logan's Run is one I've always stood by as deserving a remake. It simply hasn't aged well at all (you can see SPFX charge wires even in the cave scenes), and the sci-fi concepts are super shallow. It could really be spruced up.

Either way, having him start as an outright villain and then gradually morph into the Magnificent Bastard anti-hero we love would he a good way to separate him from Aquaman.

I think the thing I regret forgetting the most in my old age is all my comic (or most of it) knowlege. I vaguely remember Nemor, he was like more powerful on land and had like little wings in his ears or something, but that is about it. I think he was in the spiderman comics along with a few others.

I never really read any Aquaman though, and he obviously wasn't in spiderman, thor, xmen etc comics (I barely read any DC actually).

Nemor though made guest appearances in a bunch of em back in the day.

I have!

I always kind of disliked it, though, because I'm not a huge fan of the "60s sound" or "70s sound" in general. Though it's obviously neat to see Nimoy singing something so ridiculous.

Honestly, that sort of disconnect might also be why I loved the Ralph Bakshi animated LotR movie more than the Rankin-Bass films (which feel blatantly "70s" to me - Bakshi's just feels "80s" to me in spite of being made in '78).

Though I do like this!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdXQJS3Yv0Y

And I prefer the Rankin-Bass version of Misty Mountains Cold over the one in the live-action films:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4TysZL6YiA&t=0m54s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUXP8VEXWMs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pyy_FIYE7EE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N_2TOUOdEc

(Though the way the live-action film presents the scene as a whole is much, much better - though sadly, it's also one of the few really worthwhile moments in the entire trilogy. And the "feel" of the song kind of fits the scene better, even if I like the melody of the earlier one more)

I liked the Hobbit more than the LotR trilogy but I still haven't forced myself to watch the third Hobbit movie yet

I like that last version of misty mountains as well, makes me wanna listen to some of my celtic/irish/enya music (I have a seperate playlist for it, but it has songs from movies/games in it as well)

THIS is not that, but now I'm posting it anyway:

also waaay prefered the partially animated TV version of Hitchikers guide to the galaxy as well.

I prefer the original radio show, honestly. The books and the TV show are good in their own ways, but the radio show has the most appeal for me:

All of them are better than the movie, though. Fuck the movie.

Nice, havn't heard that before. I wanna see soemthing like that live, never really had a chance. Closest was a Harp player at a ren fair, which was amazing. Course prob be awhile till anything like that is possible now anyway. I really wanna hit Ireland though when travel opens up.

Ugh, god yeah the movie sucked. I played the old text based Hitchikers guide games (on the apple II C I think), read all the books and saw the TV series, but I never heard/listened to the radio broadcast. I think I will save that for when I'm traveling somewhere, it would be pretty freaking awesome actually.
