Unless context is missing to make it improper, the video shows nothing wrong being done. You would only have gotten support for that if the person was African-American here. But, regardless of race, a person resisting was detained. Not surprising. The only surprising thing was that he was being so gentle about it tbqh, figuring she assaulted a police officer in the video itself.

It being worse than no masks is interesting, I thought they would be equal in terms of protection, but their rationale makes sense, smaller droplets do remain in the air for longer.

Our local sports organizations are going hard at Wolf over his guidelines of no youth sports til January 1st. Also non school youth leagues are straight up ignoring it.

Though it is inconsistent as it wasn't even a month ago Devine was stating that kids in sports should wear masks, which of course means they expected sports were going on.

While the need to identify a person is important at a police station, (e.g. banks won't serve you if you are wearing a hat/sunglasses), all they really need to do if they are that concerned is ask them to pull down their mask for a couple of seconds so the cameras can get their appearance.

One of the larger school districts near me did a poll of parents to see what parents wanted to do regarding schools reopening, and 90% of the responses were for reopening in person learning.

The district took that information and looked into it, and apparently they did the math and figured out that they would need at least 200 additional teachers to reopen (not sure where their math came from, but I'm assuming it's accurate). Last night they decided to start the year on virtual learning only, because there's no way the district could afford bringing in the extra staff.

I'm not shocked that a lot of parents are really pissed, but I am shocked that the district made that decision. The percentage of people on the school board who would likely be in the covid isn't serious crowd would likely be very high, since nobody around here is willing to wear a mask unless their forced, and even then it can be a struggle.

Yeah, the news on the protective quality and seroprevalence of both antibodies and memory T cells continues to be great. We pretty much have to see now if the elicited antibodies and T cells in a vaccine are of the same quality.

The declining numbers of cases that most states have seen can mean a few things. I've seen some speculation that testing numbers are declining, and they have dropped in most states as well, but the positivity rate also is showing a drop. These are also numbers that are reported by individual states and not through the new HHS system which primarily deals with hospitalization numbers. However I haven't seen anything to indicate that those are fraudulent either, at this time. Of course deaths have been at a leveled off peak now for a few weeks and we may begin seeing a decline there as well.

As far as other explanations for declining numbers of cases, you have mask mandates possibly making differences. Maybe social distancing is playing out but there hasn't been much of a change in general population mobility from June to now. But then you also have speculative reasons that can unfortunately be dangerous to claim because you don't want to give people an unwarranted sense of security. The virus is still dangerous. But an implication of the memory T cells is that the attack rate could be greater than even the antibody tests are showing and general resistance to the virus might be greater than was thought and is having a strong suppressive effect - at current mitigation levels.

The main danger I see in claiming practical herd immunity is that we still have a strong degree of reduction in normal activity. It would likely grow significantly again if everything opened up, it just wouldn't be as swift of a spread as anything we saw in March and April.

It is extremely unlikely that any place in the US has reached the herd immunity threshold. There are places that have had enough people infected to achieve a significant "partial" herd immunity. This is still a big deal; if 20% of the population is immune, that drops Rt by 20% and might bring you below 1. But the crucial point is that Rt is only below 1 while in the presence of current levels of social distancing/mask wearing/etc. If everyone in, e.g., NYC went back to life as normal pre-covid, cases would start to go back up again. We need a vaccine (or for things to get way worse than they were even in March/April in NYC) to reach actual herd immunity (by which I mean enough immunity for the virus to stop spreading despite "normal" human behavior).

That's your opinion. If you read the article, researchers are starting to rethink that. And certain places like New York are thought to maybe be at it.

Yes, it absolutely is your opinion. There is no FACT answer. There are theories and they are ever evolving based on incoming data.

Researchers are now evolving towards ideas that the herd immunity is likely much lower than what they initially thought.

Have you guys heard anything about the "dangers" of wearing a mask? This guy tried to tell me he had "dozens" of articles about it(although he didn't send me any because he didn't wanna argue lol ok) and that wearing masks all the time lead to a weakened immune system, sinus problems, and shit like that. I've never heard anything like this.
