I took up running again and stopped smoking cigs. Going super early or after sundown. Thats the good news.

I cant get into calisthenics and I dont have a good place to do them in. Its something Id like to be good at, it just isnt something I know how to wrap my head around in knowing when Im doing well and should feel accomplished. Mostly just feels like flailing around and cardio (which Im already doing), with strength challenges being either pathetically easy or way too difficult to even attempt. And trying to work out for an hour in the small space beside my bed isnt productive. I wish I had a separate room to go to.

Been on a break from working out. I think I strained something under my left arm, or maybe a pinched a nerve, because theres a burning pain that occurs when I try to lift things a certain way.

Not bad
Personally, I'd throw some calf raises in there and change your regular crunches to bicycle crunches to hit your abs a little more evenly. My chest also tends to look better if I mix up my push ups between standard/incline/decline. Like day 1 incline, day 2 decline, etc. Same with dips if you're able. Once a week, I do the type where you lean forward some to target other muscles. These variations help with different stabilizing muscles. You'll have an overall stronger core. Speaking of, maybe some planks in there too. Possibly knock it down to 3 sets if you're adding all of this if you're too pooped. Maybe just for some exercises.

Cool! thanks for the advice. I'll admit, the crunches were a soft attempt at getting some rest so I'll switch those up with bicycle crunches and throw in some planks too for core. I'll also throw in the calf raises too.

Anyone got a reputable site thats still selling kettle bells? I'm looking on Ebay but I cant pull the trigger on anything that I see because I'm worried about getting scammed

My weight loss journey started February of 2019. I started off at 320 pounds and the worst shape of my life. Over the next year, I lost over 140 pounds and got down to 175 at my lowest. Since this pandemic, my diet has been shit and my weight has gradually been going back up :(

Im still finding time to get 30 minutes of cardio in a day, but my weight training has been nonexistent since the gyms closed. Ive gotten back up 185 which is depressing as hell. I have like no motivation to have a clean diet being inside 24/7

Good luck man! I've struggled with my weight for my whole life, myself. The saddest thing is that i worked pretty hard to get into shape after highschool and I stayed pretty healthy for several years. But over the last several years I've let myself go and I've pretty much regressed entirely until now

Thanks man. Yeah same here. Ive been heavier my entire life, always got made fun of my entire childhood for being the fat kid. But after high school, I lost all of my weight and by 21 I was in the best shape of my life. Then when I was 23 I got in a relationship and it all went to shit. Stopped working out and ate like shit. 5 years later we broke up and thats what motivated me to get back in shape.

It really is a mental thing. And food, for me, is an addiction. People always talk about drugs and alcohol as an addiction but never mention junk food... its a real thing. And its something Ive always struggled with.

One thing that has helped me is reading topics like this and weight loss topics on reddit. If I'm constantly reminded about it, it changes my mentality and keeps me on track.

Yeah it's definitely something you gotta think about each day at least for me. Not to say I'm always on top of my diet or exercise day in and day out (as you can see by this topic) but keeping it in the larger context helps to stay motivated

Had a good day today. I'm definitely preferring 531 for beginners to the routine I was doing before, although I'm still figuring out the accessories I want to run with it

Whats a good routine to stay healthy and get in shape with no gym or weights or anything?

Is a sit up/push up/ squat routine enough?

Anyone got some recommendations?

The routine below can be done without any gym equipment at all and is a great workout if you do it for multiple sets. I would highly recommend this channel in general, and he has one other video about how to create makeshift gym equipment using things like backpacks, water bottles, Etc that you can use to have a few more options.

I dunno if it's a particularly good idea (probably not) but I'm starting to think about what I want my goal to be after I'm done getting less fat. I'm not that interested in being really strong or being more muscular for their own sake. Maybe I'll try to dunk a basketball lol

Consider focusing on flexibility next. In particular, leg flexibility has a significant impact on lower back strain and can go a long way towards improving posture and reducing the risk of injury.

I second the flexibility motion. Keeping limber is important, imo.

Also, I'm in week 2 of lifting using my dumbbells. I'm glad to report that today I made progress with my triceps a little. I improved from 2-3 reps on each arm to a solid 5 on each for all 3 sets. The rest have simply stopped being sore and endurance is kicking in. I need to work on the breathing part. The wide rows made me a little light headed, easy enough to fix though. Overall starting week two, I'm satisfied with what little I've accomplished.

I've started putting some weights in a backpack to up the weight of my push-ups and chin-ups. Got around 16 pounds in it so far, and I can do around 18 push-ups and 12 chin-ups. Going to keep pushing the weight up and take it off in like a month and see if I've made any progress on my previous bests.

I got my bar from my dad who found it at a yard sale or something. Love it when things come together.

And I also started using some larger-diameter weights for my deadlifts to raise the bar a couple inches, and it is much easier on my back. Thanks for the suggestion.

Heck yeah man glad this topic was useful for something lol

I know I'm kinda beating a dead horse and rubbing it in at this point but I'm real glad I have home equipment. My biggest challenge exercise-wise has been figuring out how to do face pulls, but my mother in law gave me bands I can use that fixed that problem

Glad to hear it helped. Doing deficits definitely has its benefits, so dont not do what you did before. Just dont go as heavy with those.
