One thing I really like about ring fit adventure is how many reps you do of certain things without even thinking about it too much

like right now my post powerful attack is the knees to chest crunch and so Ill do like 150 of those in a session easily. And better form causes higher damage

its brilliant, really

in gymnastics pushups are baby level, so you make progress toward planche pushups
https://gmb.io/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Junior-Planche.jpg

it's the ultimate bodyweight pushing exercise, despite many people thinking it's a core exercise, it's actually not much harder on your core than a regular pushup. Many gymnasts who can full planche can benchpress 2x bodyweight with no prior training

Lapsed a bit dietarily, but forcing myself back on the wagon. Jumped from 180 to 185 over the last few weeks, hopefully will have that shaved back off soon. Have to say, after spending the last two years losing weight religiously, shifting to maintaining and reshuffling my diet RIGHT when the lockdowns hit really upped the difficulty of the transition.

In the meantime, been running like a madman, mostly to kill time (literally finished my regular hiit one day and just thought "what if I just keep going?" And jogged a few extra miles, one day). I've worked myself to being able to handle 10-12 miles every day or two. Hopefully will be able to claw my way up to a full marathon by the time all of this blows over.

m I the only one in this board who's actually played organized tackle football? Like half of the comments I've seen on this site are so obviously written by non-athletes that it's almost humorous.

When I was in high school (3 year starter for our varsity football team) I would get a full-on sprint going and clock the shit outta whoever had the ball. My coaches called me "speedhawk" as a nickname caus I had such a nose for the football and for those three seasons I was considered the most feared safety in our conference. Senior year I led my team to the state semifinals only to get fucked over by the refs in the 4th but that's another conversation (DM me if you're interested in hearing about it)

So, yeah. I hope yall can understand why I feel like their's such a big disconnect between myself and your typical Gamefaqs user. Please tell me I'm not the only one who feels this way lol

I have to ask - is there science that favors fasted cardio over normal cardio in terms of fat loss? Like, is it definitely proven to be more effective?

I notice whenever I do fasted cardio, Im drained so much faster. Doing normal cardio midday or in the evening, I have so much more energy and stamina. I dont wanna be killing myself if there really isnt any difference.

If you're doing cardio you're going to use up whatever glycogen you have stored in your body, usually it takes about 2ish hours of hard cardio to get there. It's when you "hit the wall"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitting_the_wall
If you're doing fasted cardio you're starting your training with a lower amount of stored glycogen which leaves you feeling drained.

I know about this because I've done some ANECDOTAL experimenting with this when I was running 2-3 hours every other day.

On days that I didn't drink something like a gatorade my pace would just plummet after a while. I'd still feel like I was working hard (my heart rate hovering around 160-170) but I just wouldn't be as fast as I was. Days that I did drink gatorade I'd be working hard but I'd just be faster. As a result of doing that I set it up to be drinking gatorade on days that I would be running more than an hour and a half. Usually my pace would be set to be about maintaining 170-180 HR for 2 hours, so I would SUPPOSEDLY be burning about 1000 calories an hour. This worked I was losing weight pretty damn quickly despite having a shitty diet. Contrary to belief you CAN outrun a bad diet.

If you're feeling tired it's because you're using up your glycogen and focusing on burning your fat store (ketosis also the point of a keto diet). When you switch to fat is when you feel more tired and less efficient than normal. Once you get used to it you can be like one of those beast mode ultra marathon runners. I just couldn't, I'd always notice a dip in my times whenever I didn't drink gatorade or some form of getting glycogen back.

You're pushing the weight away from your body during the concentric phase of the lift. Though I don't think that really matters, it mostly isolates your triceps

Finished 6 weeks of my current routine, so I figured that I'd post a progress pic. I weigh the same in both, I'm noticeably more tone now.

In the following weeks I'm going to focus on a cut. While my love handles and tummy have shrunk some, theres still some stubborn fat in the area that I'd like to lose. My current diet ranges from terrible to moderately acceptable right now so there's a lot of room for improvement. I've eaten cookies and gummy bears as a meal more often than I'm proud of.

Anyway, here's my pics

Alright, that's two weeks now in the books and I start again on Monday. So, I'm going to look around this weekend for good leg workouts to introduce between arm/chest days.

Any recommendations for leg workouts using dumbbells? I know that's a little limiting, but without some of the equipment I had access to when I was younger, I need decent substitutes and I'm not well versed on leg exercises anyway.

In the meantime, happy to report I'm already feeling slightly stronger and the lifting is getting easier for all exercises in general with the ability to increase reps slightly. I figure I'll be able to increase the weight in another 2 weeks, just to be safe (I don't feel the need to do too much too fast). I figure a jump from 16 lbs. to 21 lbs. would be safest for the time being.

My weights are adjustable so I can increase the weight on leg days. And yes, I know Google exists, but I'm interested in seeing what works for my fellow gamers and the like.

Also, what's a good beginner set up for working on the mid-section? I don't want or need a 6 pack or anything, but it needs some attention and I hate crunches and shit, but I will do them. In the past, I used to do sit-ups/crunches and push-ups but it was too much all or nothing. They're my least favorite so I would try to blast out a bunch as quick as I could just to get it done and over. I have way more patience and understanding for these things lately, so...willing to push through the boring to get something resembling proper results. lol

I'm blessed with thick legs so my leg workout is minimal. Calf raises holding dumbells. When I do overhead dumbbell press I essentially mix it with a squat. Single leg deadlifts have been a good sub for me since my lower back is a weak point and I can't do traditional deadlifts with heavy weights.

As far as ab workouts go, I'm a proponent of the "abs are made in the kitchen" mentality. Something that im currently struggling with lol. You'll work your core if you're lifting. With that said, I work a couple of ab specific exercises in too. Like I don't really feel like I'm hitting my obliques a lot while I'm lifting so I do bicycle crunches 1-2 times a week. Same with my lower abs. I throw some leg lifts into my routine like once a week. Ab routines need to be tailor made imo. How your body holds onto fat and the rest of your routine effects any imbalances a lot more than something like chest or shoulders. If you're already very lean it's easy to just look at them and see where you'd like work. Unfortunately, the last bit of fat for most folks tends to sit right where you don't want it. You're better off with cardio/eating right to fix that.

On the subject of abs, I also don't recommend focusing a ton on them because it creates a lot of pressure on your innards down there. It's pretty common to get hemorrhoid flare ups because of it. I didn't find out how common it was until it happened to me and then a ton of people in my life shared that they run into the same issue. My lack of shame on the topic seemed to make the truth come out from other folks. From reading up on it, it's mostly lower ab exercises as the culprit. I was doing like an hour long routine 3-4 days a week though. Your limit may vary but it's one of those things where your body doesn't really give you a lot of forewarning. Like if your rotator cuff hurts you can easily just fix whatever the problem is. By the time your butt hurts your problem is going to leave a bloody mess in the future.

Whats a good routine to stay healthy and get in shape with no gym or weights or anything?

Is a sit up/push up/ squat routine enough?

Anyone got some recommendations?

The routine below can be done without any gym equipment at all and is a great workout if you do it for multiple sets. I would highly recommend this channel in general, and he has one other video about how to create makeshift gym equipment using things like backpacks, water bottles, Etc that you can use to have a few more options.
