It was obvious that wasn't a direct quote even before he added that follow up.
He was parodying the fact that Brodie said "Come get us" as a challenge to the rest of baseball/the NL East before the season started.

Everyone has been using that to mock Brodie all season long, any time something bad goes wrong. I'm surprised you didn't know about that

At 11-2 the Giants have the best record of any team in extra innings games this season.

At 26-10 the Giants have the best record of any team in 1-run ball games.

With that said they have only just managed to claw themselves up to 2 games over .500 after what has been an absolutely absurd July. In fact they may have the best July record of any team this season with their 18-5 record this July. They still have two games to play this month and also I'm not sure how to easily verify this stat other than manually looking at each other teams schedule...

But for a decidedly mediocre record they have some stats that give them the appearance of a team that can squeeze out a playoff appearance if they can just keep coming through in the clutch down the stretch.

14.5 games back from first. (lol)
2.5 games back from wildcard.
The dream is alive.

Actually, I am seeing the sources now. But he was just upset (via sources so who knows - that could still just be speculation) that he wasn't traded to a contender this year.

I mean, I would prefer to be contending too so can't blame him. (I'd also be pissed I was traded to a place where ownership is going to force me to pitch through injuries).

yep. No such thing as a bad return for him, so literally doesn't matter who they got. Even though he was having an ok year, you can't trust that. At a minimum, this trade at least makes it very clear they have no intention of contending this year, for anyone that thought they might be trying cuz they got stroman. The Stroman trade was obv an attempt to contend in 2020 only.

But, in the funny part of the trade, since the guy they got is a no bat, all-defense 26 year old in AA... it looks like he played at Penn with Jeff Wilpon's son in college so like.... yep certainly no ulterior motive here lol.

Can't be mad either way cuz like I said it literally could've been anyone, I was expecting nothing for him. But man, the Wilpons gonna Wilpon.

Also fuck Jason Vargas for being a piece of shit. "Fight me bro"

wow another huge trade for a non-contender. It's about trying for next year, I guess!

Padres get Trammell (#30 overall prospect) from Reds
Indians get Puig from Reds, Logan Allen (#98 overall prospect) and Framnil Reyes from Padres
Reds get Bauer from Indians

i think the indians got most screwed here. That is not proper value for Bauer. Puig is a rental. Franmil Reyes is 'eh'.

Seems like a good deal for the Indians to me. They're only a couple games out of first place and they needed the outfield help. Plus their rotation is in good shape even without Bauer. I could be wrong but I think Kluber and Clevinger are supposed to come back before the end of the season right?

You're right I think though that in a vacuum it doesn't really equal Bauer's value. But Indians have been in "win now" mode for a while, so I guess that's why they went for it.

The Mets don't really need anymore poor defensive players.

Even if the Mets were willing to trade with the Yankees, it wouldn't really make sense to do so at this point.

(edit: And more pitching depth... so definitely not trading pitching)

How the earthy fuck does a guy with a 1.60 ERA last year have zero fucking control every single fucking night this year

Walk
K
Wild Pitch
HBP in the face
Wild Pitch
Sac Fly
Walk
K (strike 3 should've been ball 4 but he swung at a garbage pitch)

tie game, extras.

The Cano/Diaz trade is literallygoing to go down as the worst trade in mets history. So fucking awful from every fucking aspect.

-get 2 awful players, one of whom has one of the worst contracts in MLB history.
-give up your 2 elite prospects, a quality outfielder and a quality reliever.

But yeah, looking like a pretty bad trade. Maybe Cano magically becomes good as he gets older. Who the fuck knows with this sport?

Also, looks like that inning was all on him. I was doing something and not fully paying attention, so I guess I missed out on the total lack of control. That McCann hit was pretty wild. Good thing the shoulder deflected the ball.

Relievers are volatile. When you trade for one at his highest possible value, you're giving up way too much and have to expect regression. This is a team that fired its pitching coach mid-season so they're pretty much admitting (even if they're wrong) that it's on them.

It's not just Diaz. The entire bullpen has been awful except for Lugo. This is 100% on them and not luck, because if they had even 1 iota of competence they would've had someone else by now able to fill in at the closer role, but they don't have that. They don't have bullpen depth. Diaz being awful would not affect this team as much had they done better int he bullpen. Him being bad is luck, but his poor pitching affecting the Mets as significantly as it has is 100% their fault. Not luck at all.

sure, theres luck involved on a small scale like that. Big picture isn't luck. Any good pitcher having a bad year can be attributed to bad luck, not arguing that. I'm just saying Mets brass doesn't get to use bad luck as an excuse for his bad season because with more smart moves, his bad season would be much less destructive to the Mets season.

Also I hope Alonso steps it up. It's going to be a very close race for ROTY between him and Tatis Jr. I think.

We didn't need Aguilar really, he hasn't been that good this year. Still, our first base platoon is now 3 lefties, and Travis Shaw has sucked this year. Hard.

Brewers also traded with the Giants, reported as "significant". Thought they were getting Will Smith or Madison Bumgarner. Turns out it was Drew Pomeranz and Ray Black for Mauricio Dubon (one of the few prospects they had that was worth anything).

They got Jake Faria for Aguilar, and also got Jordan Lyles earlier in the week. Still don't think it'll be enough considering how crowded the NL is, and how long they waited with no real pitching after Woodruff and Hader, but maybe they'll go on another run.
