Looks-wise, Shinka is another cute anime girl. Not much to say about this other than that at one point she wants to not be recognized by her classmates, so she dyes her hair black. That’s possibly the worst attempt at disguising yourself outside of Jessie and James on Pokemon.

Personality-wise, she pretends to be cute and bubbly, which are personality traits that already kind of annoy me, but in private is more bitter and irritable. Still, she’s ultimately a kindhearted person and will do what’s necessary to help others, unlike some waifus below her on the list.

PWC-wise, I’m really deriving the entire semi-high score from a line in the Wiki that “she’s enthusiastic when it comes to romance.”

Overall, she’s a decent enough waifu.

Ouch, two of OrangeCrush’s waifus go down in a row. I didn’t plan for them to have the same overall score, either. Anyway, Estelle is the main character of Trails in the Sky, a series I’ve never played.

Looks-wise, I’ll say right away that her score fluctuated a lot based on the game (she’s less hot in some of them), but I of course chose the hottest version. As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t like twintails, but she pulls it off really well, and the rest of her clothing is pretty good. It’s amusing that everything I read about her says that she’s a tomboy, but come on, she’s wearing a skirt and clearly dresses like a girl. This reminds me of when I read Little Women, which was written in the 1860s, and the “tomboy” character is impossible to tell apart from the normal girls because the cultural expectations of what constitutes a girl acting like a boy have changed so much.

Personality-wise, she’s naïve, straightforward, boyish, and energetic, and can chew the scenery with the best of them. I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge fan of the “can-do, always optimistic no matter what” girl, but it’s not really a turn-off for me either.

PWC-wise, she apparently is a good cook after getting hold of a recipe book? Finding a recipe book isn’t going to be a problem in Southern California. I see no reason why this relationship can’t work out.

Overall, Estelle is more than the sum of her parts. Individually each of these traits is not very appealing to me, but combined they somehow make a pretty decent waifu.

Prof’s first defeated waifu! Laura is a character in Street Fighter. She’s Brazilian, and I just realized that like every Brazilian character in fighting games has a green and yellow aesthetic. Is it because that’s the Brazilian flag and you need to easily denote them as Brazilian? Because the equivalent is Bandit Keithing every American. Anyway, discounting Poison and Chandra Nallar, Laura is the first waifu from a series I’ve actually played/read/watched/whatever since Susan Ivanova in 125.

Laura’s a goddamned tragedy in the Looks department. She would be so much hotter with any kind of normal haircut. If the right side of her hair was reflected on the left side of her head, or if she had short hair all around, basically anything except those ugly-ass asymmetrical cornrows… alas. It’s a testament to the rest of her looks and fashion that she still scores this highly.

Personality-wise, she seems pretty pleasant. “Bohemian” is a bit of a weird word to describe someone, but hey, I’ll take it. I’ve seen weirder. She’s protective of her family, which makes sense, she’s free-spirited but not in the innocent way, and it all seems to work for her.

PWC-wise, though, she’s a traveling martial artist who hates vegetables. Man, I like vegetables. It’s going to be hard to hold down a relationship with her, especially when her job involves being beaten up.

Overall, I could take or leave Laura. I’ll be honest with you: almost any other non-evil SF girl would have placed way higher. Chun-Li, Cammy, Karin, there are a lot of high quality waifus in this series and Laura is among the lowest.

Jeff’s gonna kill me for this, but sorry! Kira is a low tier Trek waifu. She’s not a bad character per se, but she existed for the very specific purpose of bringing a Bajoran perspective to a series set around Bajor. A planet that was chosen to be the setting of the show because the aliens were already established to look almost like humans, so the makeup for the extras would be cheap.

I’ll just say it: Kira is not an attractive woman. She’s not bad or anything, but she’s clearly slightly below par. Like Ivanova before her, Kira sacrifices good looks for efficiency and competence, which is a good quirk for a personality and a bad quirk for looks. Having examined about a dozen pictures of her for this write-up, I think I know why: the lips. There’s something old ladyish about these lips. What’s also notable is that she goes through like five hairstyles during the show’s run and none of them are attractive.

Personality-wise, Kira’s great. She’s patient but still won’t take flak, she’s intelligent, skilled, and clever, she’s efficient but still a lot of fun, everything about her works. She’s one of the better Trek girls in that regard.

As for her PWC, she technically goes on weird space adventures, but most of them involve a space station near the planet, and she goes back a lot, so having a relationship won’t be too bad. That said, she’s really religious and prone to be a little illogical when it comes to that, so ehhh, I docked her some points.

Overall, not the best, not the worst.

Lady Maria is a boss in Bloodborne, a hunter who defected from her royal lineage, and a woman who tries to help horribly mutated people… maybe.

Maria has the second highest Looks so far, and I don’t think I need to justify that very much. One thing to note is that I hate Victorian aesthetics (it’s mostly because my distaste for steampunk has bled over), and she still manages to be very high. She manages to look gorgeous and very strong at the same time, and she ticks all of my personal boxes for attractiveness. If this was just about looks, Maria would be in the top ten.

So it’s implied that she has a gentle side in taking care of the mutated people in a particular area in the game, which is good, but Bloodborne’s ambiguity in storytelling means that she might also be responsible for it. And even if she’s not, the methods she uses to cure them are at best ineffective and at worst causing more damage. It’s also possible that she killed herself before you find her and that you’re fighting an undead version of her? Who knows. Either way, I can’t in good conscience give her a good Personality score, I just declared this to be a wash.

PWC-wise she is a mess. First she’s possibly undead, second she spends her time around people with crazy mutations that I don’t know if they’re contagious or not, third she spends the rest of her time slumped in a grimy throne in a hellhole, fourth her blood spontaneously combusts. Can you imagine dating a woman whose blood spontaneously combusts? You’ll just be talking about whatever, she accidentally bites the inside of her cheek while eating, and then four seconds later half of the restaurant is destroyed. No thanks.

Overall, Lady Maria would probably have been a lot better of a waifu if she’d taken a different path in life.

The amount of "maybe" in this is the best.

She might be a corpse. She might not even be real and might be a dream.

Bloodborne is stupid in the best way.

I never thought I’d ever have to explicitly say this, but I guess it’s finally come up: I require my waifu to have a head. It’s like a waifu without a skeleton or a waifu without arms, they’re just a little too important to the overall package for me to accept her without them.

Personality-wise, Celty is a confident, optimistic girl, likes movies and video games, and is generally just a pleasant person. Everything about her works really well.

PWC-wise, again, it’s clear that we have a lot in common. I can really easily see a relationship with her working.

Really, and I’ll be honest, this is like the perfect waifu but for the lack of a head. I’m going to say 90-95% of a waifu’s looks are really about her head. Call me shallow, but that’s just the way I roll. Unlike her head, which doesn’t exist.

Haruka is the main character in the iDOLM@STER series, a series I had never really thought about in any capacity before this topic. She wants to be an idol so she can sing, but her big flaw is apparently clumsiness? Wow, I’ve never seen a female character in any fiction whose flaw was clumsiness. I also like the TVTropes’ description of her: “Her special talent is that she has none.”

Looks-wise, and I’m just going to say it, she’s nothing special. I get the feeling she was intentionally designed to be the most average and normal of the girls in the series, what with her boring brown hair and authentically Japanese green eyes.

Personality-wise, she’s cheerful, hard-working, and likes to sing. Whatever? She is, again, designed to be painfully normal. Side note: in series like this with big casts of wacky characters, I prefer the protagonist to be one of the wacky ones, not the normal person.

PWC-wise, I gave her a few extra points because one of her hobbies is baking, which would at least mean we’d save a fortune on food. Though how can you be a clumsy cook? Seems like it’s going to be a big problem really fast.

Overall, Haruka is pretty average. I know I’ve used that word a lot here, but you know it’s apt.
