Being legit doesn't really mean much.

Stipe Miocic could kill everyone on the current roster and have Brock hurt worse than what Overeem and Cain did, but he would make for a horrible wrestler.

Then you look at legit fighters who do goofier shit than actual srs bizness wrestlers like Anderson Silva and Sakuraba. During their runs, their entrances were the kind of thing you'd see from midcard acts. In wrestling booking, would Triple H ever allow himself to lose to them? Nope, cos it's not believable.

Only thing that ever mattered was money and miles.

Well for non-winter sports, the only real shows to have influence that I've seen are Captain Tsubasa and maaaaybe Ashita no Joe. Though the most famous fan who is an active star, is I think Sergio Aguero.

I think some baseball shows like Kyojin no Hoshi have influenced the domestic scene in Japan, but zero internationally.

I've seen anime shows influence professional wrestling, but while it is about athletic performances, it's not regulated.

Maybe in 5-10 years we'll see athletes influenced by shows we currently enjoy, distribution methods have changed a lot since, so it'll be fun to see who grew up on Ippo and became a great boxer.

2020 I could see being a throwback it terms of anime representation. We've seen some of the mascots Japan's committee has selected and they're very safe well known characters. But I do agree it could be a huge opportunity to showcase some stuff. Summer Olympics are much bigger than the Winter ones and line up with a lot of people's holidays. This thing is generally all about timing though, in this case Yuri On Ice came out at the right time, because the show hit it big, when possible representatives will have been preparing their routines.

Oh right, Netflix, they're perfect for this, given that the show's international fanbase would fit with their operations.

However, it appears Team Japan won't be getting in the medal positions for this sport. I don't know how strong their singles team is though. In another anime related note, one of the top ranked women in singles is a noted anime fan.

So we may see some more anime representation, be it outfit or music choice.

Fans or people familiar with Yuri On Ice reacted positively to this, while outlets online have covered this music choice and the reaction from fans.

The difference is Vickie is dumb, Steph is smart.

How can you ever truly get one over someone who is 10-12 steps ahead of you?

Vickie as an authority figure reacts to situations and lets the emotions get the best of her.

Steph is playing 5D chess, if you think you've tricked her, she's actually just playing you all along.

Like you said, you can only beat Steph by accident with fluke moments and those are rare, because she's been built up as Batman levels of smart in her planning.

Her face stuff like creating women's wrestling is her in Bruce Wayne mode, making philantropy the future of marketing. Her heel persona, is just an evil version of Batman and Triple H is mostly a tool, she allows to have some degree of autonomy.

If Triple H and Steph ever divorce and come to blows, Steph would go full Jeanie Buss on him. Heck, I'm not sure her current character isn't partially based on what Buss projects.
