This deal most likely went into place since last year. Yes it's in response to MS buying Activision. These types of deals takes months to finalize and only make it into the news when they are all but certain to go through. Both Sony and MS knew about each other's planned purchases.

Sony probably sees them as a leader un the GaaS space and they probably want more of that kind of content.

Sword and Shield made it so easy to EV train, find pokemon with good IV spreads and anything related to breeding.
Feels hard going back to older systems on that front after the ease provided by this gen.

Yeah, Microsoft's CEO was likely much more involved in this than the usual xbox deal.

Safe to assume Phil Spencer's got more autonomy acquiring indie and AA studios, but for a deal this size, it goes beyond just gaming and a lot more senior microsoft people are involved.

I don't know if the metaverse will end up being a fad, but the money being put into the content and infrastructure is at the very least real.

Oh, seems like big picture this is also a major metaverse move.
The speed at which companies are paying up big for metaverse content is a little surprising when the general public doesn't seem to know what the metaverse actually is.

If you can buy Activision for 70bn, then someone best make an offer to Valve that has Gabe thinking twice.

Roblox and Unity are more talked about than most of these other gaming companies.

Sony and Nintendo are not even in the same galaxy as Microsoft. If they weren't Japanese companies they would have been bought by FAANG ages ago.

MSFT will probably not make CoD exclusive, what they will do is a one or two month exclusivity window, and the games appear on Gamepass on day one.

I could see this being a play by MSFT to make Nintendo and Sony eventually include gamepass on their platforms.

I assume the idea is to build up content for gamepass and have it become equal sized to Netflix.

The prices paid for content on the major streaming platforms make this kind of deal look reasonable enough.

I don't think Sony can pay the 30bn it would cost to acquire a premium Japanese game publisher.

Rockstar is TakeTwo which just bought Zynga for big money so buying them would be ludicrously expensive.

But I can see next year MSFT buying EA and gatekeeping FIFA and Madden.

Soon the entire HD and mobile gaming space will be under Microsoft.

Basically this type of sentiment. This is the one game where I really don't mind how long they take since the hardware isn't easy to obtain and the team's track record seems to earn some trust.

Do you use the same subs as the spoken language or do you still use english subs?

Tbh when streaming on netflix/prime I have subs on for all English shows just in case I miss something, but I do switch sub languages over for some foreign stuff.
But I do have acquaintances who will watch Japanese stuff with English subtitles even though they are perfectly fluent in Japanese.

Which do you pick assuming you actually enable the subtitle option.

There's a lot of good live action anime tv series and small number of good live action film adaptations.

Just can't think of any off the top of my head that were made by an American production company.
