there's definitely some fun stuff in here, but i agree that the actual part where it comes to finally unmasking the phantom is lackluster

yeah, it's kind of a big oof. they went for a big reveal moment with fullbright/phantom and didn't quite stick the landing. this "epic but slightly off" feeling happens a lot in DD I feel.

Agreed. I really love so much about this case: the statue recreation, the revelations about Hugh, Robin and Junie, Miriam, the Klavier cameo. Means himself is kind of whatever but overall one of the best 3DS cases.

Fun fact: I had a teacher in private elementary who would literally throw the 1" diameter pieces of chalk and Pink Pearl erasers at students who talked too much or otherwise didn't pay attention. He had deadly aim - once a student in the very back of class against a wall was talking too much and we all turned to stare at him. The chalk flew. The piece of chalk cracked in half against the wall at the exact place the kid's head would have been - if he hadn't sensed it coming and moved. Whew.

Sounds like a student with high proficiency.

I do like the part in this case where "Not Gumshoe" kind of shows up in the window of the art room out of nowhere and does like a goofy wave or something. Maybe I just completely made this up. His "shocked animation" cracks me up too

I prefer perceive to mood matrix. Most of the time it seems to force you to think of emotional behavior in really rigid terms and that just seems dumb in general to me (yes, dumber than a bracelet that tightens when people lie/hide the truth). Like, people are always going to be feeling multiple/conflicting emotions at nearly all points of their life. I know I'm probably taking it too seriously but it's always bothered me.

I kind of liked Vera - as far as defendants go she's pretty easily the best in AJ, aside from Hobonix I guess. I also felt bad for her and Drew.

That's about all I have positive to say about 4-4!

I know a lot of people hated what they did with Ema in AJ, but I thought she was fine and probably the most pleasant character in the game overall, even better than Trucy.

It seems to me the biggest hole is that the gun is established to have tremendous kickback and requires a lot of strength to use

and so it makes perfect sense to arrest the blind shrimpy dude as a culprit?

I don't particularly dislike this about Klavier. He could've been a decent prosecutor if given better cases.

I'm still confused about the whole blindness carousel and details about the murder weapon at 4-3. We can only assume that Det. Skye and her investigators are simply incompetent at their jobs.

I actually kind of dig perceive. The "logic" behind it sucks ("oh my god, you scratched your hand! you're hiding something" is never going to hold up in any court of law, fictional or not) but I think it's a fun mechanic. I like the idea of each of the "big three" having their own stupid minigame. It's better than mood matrix.

You are right that the "notoriously awful" one is in fact, terrible.

this case will make you tired

Not being able to present profiles (which you can do in JFA and T&T, but not in the original game) at first made me think that 1-5 and AJ were originally thought of as an "alternate future" for Phoenix after 1-4.

Maya and Edgeworth leave and since JFA never happens, Phoenix gets depressed and becomes jaded with law, which causes him to [REDACTED UNTIL TC FINISHES AJ] and becoming a hobo piano player addicted to grape juice.

Of course this isn't at all the case, but it almost made head canon sense until DD came around.

Lots of characters are new, which is normal for Ace Attorney, but they seem a little try-hard this time around. Characters like Maya and Pearl were heartwarming and thoroughly enjoyable. These days I find myself rolling my eyes. Well see!

Oh boy. Uhhh... just promise you'll come back for DD and SOJ? They're worth it, I promise!

I also like 4-2, but that's only in spite of a boring first day and some questionable japanese perv humor

Honestly outdoor schooling / tents should be something that should be considered more seriously. For inner city schools with little to no outdoor areas, alternative sites should be scouted and afforded to these schools.

I'm just not seeing the difference, classrooms for K-3 all have toys and even play time in their curriculum, not including recess/lunch (at least at my elementary school). I don't think you are giving kids enough credit. If they can know the difference between "playtime" and "schoolwork time" in the classroom, they can also do the same at home.

There's also the added benefit of more parental support. It's well known in schools with high levels of parental support kids tend to perform better.

This is just fantastical thinking. If you keep non-homeschooled kids home, they are not going to do as well in remote learning situations. Plus you're also bringing in parents, who may or may not have the ability, temperment or time to monitor a full day of school.

The tonal shift from OT Phoenix and AJ Phoenix is so abrupt and so unearned.

Like sure, people change over seven years but Nick's treatment in AJ is still the largest issue in a game with a number of issues. It's not just that he's "more serious" it's that he's more charming, mysterious, and cunning- which is like, not what the original guy is.

I don't give a fuck. It's still the death of a child. Try to put yourself in the shoes of those parents who have sick kids now, or the ones that just lost their child. Think about what they're going through right now. They're not sitting there thinking "oh, well the flu kills more kids, so the coronavirus isn't that bad." They're not thinking about how the death rates among children of that age are lower. They're burying their fucking child, and trying to figure out how to navigate the rest of their lives wondering if they could have done something different. That's something they'll be haunted by until the day they die.

No one's saying not to feel sorry for those people, but there's nothing to be gained by reading hyperbolic doomer articles about coronavirus infecting children. I've reached the point where I try to check people on their negative thinking and mindsets that equate cases and deaths equally. Facts matter, and the facts still state that it is very unlikely for infants and children to die from the disease. The numbers still show that the majority of children who test positive for coronavirus have mild symptoms. They can still be carriers, of course, which is the more important issue, and for that reason I'm for lockdowns and remote learning in the Fall.

At this point in the pandemic Americans have to live with a certain amount of acceptance of the situation. It sucks. It's horrible. It's a tragedy and I think our leaders need to be held accountable for it. But at the same time we have to approach the news with a level head and think rationally about this disease and how, as a society, we choose to live with it. If you want to keep reading articles about husbands and wives dying while holding hands and child death than so be it, but those articles exist for clicks, not to provide helpful information about the virus.
