The south has peaked. The disease is pretty much done spreading. In another month or so, we'll be where New York is now, only with a dramatically lower peak because we didn't deliberately sacrifice the elderly the way that Cuomo did.

Frankly, you know this is impossible. I realize you belong to "the other side", as much as I don't want to really refer to things that way, Trump and really most of his party sans a few sane ones have made this very political in nature. Not just that, but you've got some hardcore right-wingers in this topic claiming lockdowns are aimed at social groups. It's impossible not to have things be political on this front, even if you'd think otherwise since this issue should go beyond party lines and in an ideal world, people could put aside ideologies about the economy and religion to fight something as one. Unfortunately that doesn't happen, because the president and his daughter hock beans in the white house and the rabble complain about women's soccer being allowed to operate.

I don't agree. Everything the president does that's inappropriate is related to this crisis. It's about how shitty his priorities are and the image he's promoting of America.

Glad to know you're okay with children getting sick and being hospitalized. Sure, they may spread the disease further (because they're children and it can be difficult to get them to wear masks) and/or have lifelong medical consequences. But they're not dead, so who gives a shit.

While the Instruction applies to most people, the following individuals are exempt from having to
wear face coverings:
Children under the age of 12;
People who have a medical condition or disability which inhibits their ability to wear a
face covering;
Those unable to apply or remove a face covering without help;
People with accommodations under the Ontario Human Rights Code or the Accessibility
for Ontarians with a Disabilities Act;
Staff or agents of an enclosed public space who are in an area of the premises that is
designated for them and not accessible to the public, or in an area separated by a
physical barrier, such as plexiglass.

There is no requirement for anyone to provide proof of exemption.

That's how it is everywhere basically and the reasoning is because you can't force someone to disclose medical information because of HIPAA in the United States. I'm sure most countries have similar rules.

Because people don't care if you would have an exemption or not. It's the funny part. There is this middle gray area. And conservatives are like I'm gonna take advantage of the loophole and liberals are like wear your fucking mask you piece of shit. You saw it above when the lady and child at Idlewild said they couldn't for medical reasons. The one dude came in here to belittle anxiety and autism to say that there couldn't possibly not wear a mask for those reasons. It's one thing to say hey, I need to shop for groceries and medical supplies, but I have a condition where I can't wear a mask. Then I do have some sympathy, but there are delivery services to get around that. But a theme park, on the first day they open no less, you roll up with this claim and then want to play the victim? There's just no excuse for it, whether the disabilities were real or not. It's selfish and something only bad people do, thus the call out from whoever initially did and me basically agreeing with that person. I've seen countless videos online of people with asthma and other serious medical conditions wearing masks, and imploring that other people wear masks despite their medical reasons not to. The reason no one with a brain respects these con-artists is because of the evidence they are mostly just that, con-artists. There are so many videos with these Karen-level meltdowns due to masks and people claiming they can't wear them, and their reasoning and behavior are clearly that of a delusional person. Again, sure there are people out there that maybe can't wear a mask in public (though again, people with serious breathing problems have videos online proving you CAN) but if you are such a person, you shouldn't be as selfish to think everyone should be put at risk so you can ride the rollercoaster.

My good time nothing. You are changing the entire scenario to be disingenuous. The mandate states that you have to wear a mask unless you have a medical condition that precludes you. If the person has a condition that does, the mandate does not apply to them. Then the question becomes whether or not there is an obligation for accommodation of disabilities if true disabilities or not.

No. What was said was something along the lines of "how the hell would autism prevent you from wearing a fucking mask". Then I provided multiple links talking about the hardships of getting autistic children to wear masks.

So... screw the disabled people they should have to miss out on things longer than everyone else... because they have a disability?

If the point you're trying to make is how people without disabilities will ruin it for everyone well... ya - maybe ? Probably not but are you willing to tell the people with real disabilities to go home because they arent allowed to enjoy the things you are since you are able to wear a mask?

yeah, i said this and not "how the hell would autism prevent you from wearing a fucking mask?" it seemed to me like the woman was saying "well my son has autism so OF COURSE he can't wear a mask!" and i was like "how does that work?" i wasn't saying the woman was full of shit, i just didn't immediately understand the link between autism and mask wearing.

As the parent of an autistic child, the recent posts in this topic are filled with a lot of stuff

My son can wear a mask, he won't.

We have been working with him to wear it longer and longer but he doesn't really like it and will take it off after 5 to 10 minutes.

I am also leaning towards not sending him to school in September because he likes to chew stuff and touches his face constantly. Also there is no way his teachers and EAs would be able to distance.

Do you have that ability though ? If you and your wife (just assuming here) both work then what's worse - him being supervised in school or him being bounced around between sitters, grandparents, day care, etc ? I'm not sure one is worse than the other honestly.

Okay... sure I mean but then no one would have to work what good is that? My point is that people are debating holding kids out of school in September yet unless you or your spouse can stay home with them it's no better to have them bouncing around or be supervised by different people.

Also he is in Canada and we have a shockingly low number of cases compared to our neighbors to the south.

So at that point she will be quitting/fired/working only weekends? And we will be living off my income alone.

I am a lucky one where I have not lost my job and had my full normal salary all pandemic. I am also very safe with my money so we can afford to live off the one income for a long while. It won't be fancy and we are gonna have to give up a lot of stuff, but safety/health > money.

Yeah my wife and I have been lucky to have two workplaces that are actually thriving during covid. I'm quite grateful.
