also in non-spoiler news the art in the opening for secret invasion is AI generated, so that sucks. they've already come out with the statement about it being artistically and thematically intentional but still sucks.

so I assume Ross hasn't always been a Skrull, right? Like he's held captive somewhere and the Ross in the BP movies is real?

but also I think MCU Maria Hill is probably the biggest waste of potential. been in a ton of films and never got a single moment to shine. shame

anyway this was kind of mid but I see how it could get better

Yeah, it's really not easy to break off the sphere grid path. Maybe the Blitzball thing works but I hated Blitzball. There's something inherently fun about the sphere grid anyway though, even though there's a lot of illusion of choice there. There's a reason it gets copied all the time.

Tactics's last act is a bummer. Even if you don't use one of the extremely broken NPC's the last few maps are cake compared to the earlier ones.

But yes, absolutely classic game for sure.

FFX is probably the best in the series at relationships and themes. It isn't the best overall FF story but it has extremely high peaks.

I actually thought MODOK's appearance/backstory in Quantumania was fine. At the very least it didn't offend me. I think it made sense to try and provide some kind of tie-in to the first movie. I know serious comic stans probably don't like MODOK being a gag character, but he's always been kind of a gag to me and I think the larger casual comic fanbase. Again the writing itself was the main issue there.

Hopefully Loki S2 makes Kang interesting again. The last ep of S1 felt genuinely exciting. Quantumania unfortunately really did not do a good job building on it.

I feel like this is an interesting parallel with Wandavision and Dr Strange MOM. I also think Wanda was far more interesting at the end of that show than how the character developed into the movie.

At least it's the best Ant-Man yet.

yeah this is completely wrong. first one is great, second one is good for what they were aiming for (basically a cheesy action romcom). This one was straight garbo that took previously interesting characters and made them boring. The point about this not having an arc is dead on. Things just happen in this movie because they remind us of things that happened in other movies. Like I could not have given less of a **** about any of the quantum realm people.

As someone who liked She-Hulk a fair amount, I think it is symptomatic of a larger problem with the MCU, which is that it is stretching itself too thin trying to expand what it means to be an "MCU production." All the Disney plus shows seem to be playing around with different genres (sitcom / hard sci-fi/ animation / young adult / parody). There's so much experimentation in Phase 4 that it feels like the franchise's identity is a bit lost.

I feel like She-Hulk is basically middle of the pack in terms of D+ shows, better than Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and FaWS. If you want to discuss character assassination, FaWS is by far the worst culprit of that.

GoTG 3 opened with "only" 114 million, which doesn't make it a bomb, but it does seem to affirm that the MCU is in a bit of trouble. I doubt it will have as bad of a drop off as Quantumania, and hopefully positive word of mouth will give it some legs.

It's the best Guardians movie and top tier Marvel for sure. Marvel will regret letting James Gunn get away.

I appreciate how this film seemed to take chances and didn't care about alienating its audience. Like I'm sure if it were any other director they would've said "no thanks" to this much simulated animal abuse. I appreciate how pet owners will be traumatized. But also I appreciate how this might give kids nightmares. People were walking out of the Saturday matinee with their kids crying. The MCU has been entirely too safe... the entire time basically, and we finally have one that's willing to push some boundaries.

I could make an argument for this being THE best Marvel film, but I don't actually believe this, and the major reason is Adam Warlock - he just kind of sucks. Like he feels leftover from an earlier idea or something.

But everything else is well done. I really appreciated how they didn't kill any of the crew. Pretty sure everybody expected Drax and maybe Rocket himself to go out in a very stereotypically Whedon-esque way. The idea of Drax becoming a teacher is so extraordinary good and so much better than just having them die for cheap tears (although this movie had plenty of cheap tears).

It sucks that we had to wait so long after IW for an MCU movie to actually push the envelope even a tiny bit, and just when we get this one, Gunn's headed to DC and we've got a full two phase slate off mediocrity / writer's strike delays / real-life actor litigation to look forward to. If this ends up being the last great MCU movie then it couldn't have asked for a better final note. I will miss all of these characters even more than the core Avengers group.

Finished at around 25 hours. There are a few super bosses I could beat but I'm good.

All in all a great time, better than the main game in some respects. The story is pretty confusing to me, who only partially cares about the "lore." But if I just enjoy it as fanservice it's great.

The worst thing I can say about Throne's final boss (and Temenos's) is that I basically one-shotted them and missed the coolest parts of the fights.

I enjoyed Throne's chapter 4 for how outright creepy it is; I also thought it was a subversive twist to the "femme fatale revenge story". Chapter 3 is basically Kill Bill. Chapter 4 is something new. Totally get the complaints though, because it does feel a bit out there.

Just finished Throne's story and lmao wtf was that trash. I've generally been very positive towards this game's writing so far after doing Temenos, Osvald and Ochette, but I legit can't believe they just threw out an actually interesting character like Father in Chapter 3 so they could have completely-random-immortal-dude who sperm banked his way into a stupid FF8 plot twist. What a mess.

Yeah I'm in Chapter 5 now and the story makes sense about 40% of the time, so that's to be expected. I'm still having fun. I've never actually enjoyed any of the "high sci-fi" xeno stuff like caring about who Alvis is, etc.To me the series has always been at its best when it comes to character dynamics (which says a lot about why I hated Xenoblade 2 I suppose).
