Even on hard I think the maps are fairly simple and non-strategic

if cold steel 3 didn't exist, I'd say it would be fine to just play cold steel 1 & 2

but cold steel 3 makes playing trails in the sky essential.

you might consider playing cold steel 1&2, and if you like them, playing trails in the sky before playing 3. this might also save you from having to wait for cold steel 4 to be released.

If he thought Astral Chain was "too anime" (and a kind of anime he likes no less!) there's no way he would enjoy CS3

agreed entirely. more than that, they need to give up on the whole "good/evil balance" crap. It was fine, but not enough to build three whole trilogies around. again, this was something TLJ tried to do, but didn't quite stick the landing.

but that being said, I didn't really like solo or rogue one either so maybe SW just isn't for me any more, lol

I didn't like the Last Jedi but at least it was trying. It tried and failed, but at least it tried.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but other than the music Three houses is just average.

The main problem is that there's not an iota of strategy required to beat any of the maps, even on hard. on normal you will be overleveled the whole game, and on hard it's still much less difficult than any other fire emblem game I've played. Maddening doesn't really fix the problem, it just makes the enemies overleveled. It's like treating the symptom and not the cause of the disease.

The problem is the maps are boring and the unit types are totally imbalanced. that's been a problem in all the FE games but it's even worse here.

As for the story, I think only 1/4 routes actually works (and the Edelgard route is a joke). also,making the supports fully voiced skits just emphasized how repetitive and boring they are. I acknowledge that FE isn't known for story anyway, but this time it's different because it seems like they're actually trying.

All that being said, it's still better than Fates and I applaud the developers for being ambitious. That music too. However, all the extra stuff isn't worth sacrificing the core FE gameplay.

EDIT: also, it was still my #6 game so that says something, I think.

You're right. I meant 60's, assuming you need to be in your 20's to play

you need strategy to play "press your luck?" you also have to go back in time and be born in the 50's.

bloodstained honestly has no business being on any top 10 list tbh

on pc it's an average metroidvania. on consoles it's borderline unplayable due to loading times.

That's all true about LoH. Cold Steel 3 still got my #1 vote basically by default this year, considering the number of games I enjoyed but failed to live up to expectations.

I think Three Houses and Death Stranding both deserve praise for their soundtracks. While I like KH3 more than most, its soundtrack wasn't as good as FFXV's.

Three Houses is a good game but it's also a bad strategy game

Just finished Chapter 1. Some really good feels here.

Spoilers / question for this chapter and for Trails in the Sky: It's been a few years and I can't remember, but did they mention the Hundred Days War in FC or SC? I remember the stuff with Louwe and Joshua, but I don't remember any of the background given by Agate. If a knowledgeable boarder could remind me generally about the Empire in Sky, that would be nice.

Non-spoiler opinion: Alisa and Fie's redesigns are atrocious
