Flu kills kids in way greater force.
I don't give a fuck. It's still the death of a child. Try to put yourself in the shoes of those parents who have sick kids now, or the ones that just lost their child. Think about what they're going through right now. They're not sitting there thinking "oh, well the flu kills more kids, so the coronavirus isn't that bad." They're not thinking about how the death rates among children of that age are lower. They're burying their fucking child, and trying to figure out how to navigate the rest of their lives wondering if they could have done something different. That's something they'll be haunted by until the day they die.

No, it isn't. You can be upset a child died. But acting like no child should ever die to a virus and acting holier than thou regarding it via moral superiority arguing and virtue signalling is deaf tone when another illness kills children at much greater levels in which you don't bat an eye to because of its prevalance.

There is nothing wrong with lamenting a sad happening.

I mean I read it. There was definitely positive news that they are finding treatments that can help and getting a better understanding of the virus.

The Tcell stuff is especially promising and could also be part of why there are so many asymptomatic people.

The steroid trial is good but 36% and 18% being helped arent amazing numbers so it's not like this is the treatment we've all been waiting on.

No one's saying not to feel sorry for those people, but there's nothing to be gained by reading hyperbolic doomer articles about coronavirus infecting children. I've reached the point where I try to check people on their negative thinking and mindsets that equate cases and deaths equally. Facts matter, and the facts still state that it is very unlikely for infants and children to die from the disease. The numbers still show that the majority of children who test positive for coronavirus have mild symptoms. They can still be carriers, of course, which is the more important issue, and for that reason I'm for lockdowns and remote learning in the Fall.

At this point in the pandemic Americans have to live with a certain amount of acceptance of the situation. It sucks. It's horrible. It's a tragedy and I think our leaders need to be held accountable for it. But at the same time we have to approach the news with a level head and think rationally about this disease and how, as a society, we choose to live with it. If you want to keep reading articles about husbands and wives dying while holding hands and child death than so be it, but those articles exist for clicks, not to provide helpful information about the virus.

The biggest take aways was that people who never had the virus have immunity responses to the virus already. It is possibly why there is so many asymptomatic.

I mean, it's just one study and there is other ways to look at it, but that would be promising.

There is the list and their levels. Moderna is self-proclaimed the leader in America. They say the results are good. Article earlier in the topic. Moderna has been known to hype itself for funding waves though. So, have to temper expectations.

Canada is stockpiling syringes for its vaccines. Said they are stockpiling 72 million. Said for 2 doses per person in their country.

PS: Canada is one of the largest landmass countries in the world. And only has 36 million people total. That's so natural social distancing there.

Yeah that's what I meant with the Tcell comment. Since past exposure to SARS or other coronavirus could provide some protection.

I wasn't sure what they meant with the Sars thing. It says SARS immunity still exists today in the Asian population. I didn't know if they were trying to say this helped them with this virus outbreaking or if they moreso meant, the last outbreak of this kind that immunity from those infected has lasted 17 years still and it's a good sign for how immunity will work with this. However, it was good to hear some common cold Coronaviruses may be helping to provide some immunity already.

I just think it's weird that I'm seeing so much discussion about whether or not to wear a mask, either earlier in this topic or on social media and what have you. I work in a hospital, and none of my colleagues seem to advocate against wearing a mask. It's so weird to me that not a single employee in the entire hospital seems to think wearing a mask for 8-12 hours during their shift is a bad idea, myself included. Really makes you think, huh?

I genuinely don't understand the argument for not wearing masks. They are barely a mild inconvenience. If you're anti-mask then even if you're right, worst case you are mildly inconvenienced. However, if you're wrong then by not wearing a mask you possibly contributed to people getting seriously ill or dying.

Like I live in Florida where it's bastard hot. I've had double lung surgery in the past and I've already had COVID. If anyone would have an argument for not wearing a mask then it would be me. Yet I still wear one.

I have been wearing a mask every time I go shopping and such for the past few weeks. Admittedly, I didn't always wear one early on when they weren't as heavily encouraged, but I am now.

With that being said, I think its at least understandable some of the complaints people have about wearing masks. If you wear glasses, for example, it's really hard to situate your mask so you don't get that 'fog off, fog on' effect. Some of the cheaper masks out there have really uncomfortable ear straps as well. Also, after wearing your mask long enough, it can start to smell kind of bad because of the bacteria in your mouth collecting in it. This has happened to me even directly after brushing/mouthwashing.

Easily the first 10-15 minutes after you put on a mask are the most uncomfortable, especially if you arent used to wearing masks. After that, you kind of get used to it, with the only negative being the bacteria thing if you wear it long enough.

This is why I can kind of see people complaining right after putting them on. But make them wear it for 30 minutes consecutively, and I guarantee it wont feel as weird.

I guess the point of this rant is that, yes, there is no good reason not to wear a mask, but masks can be uncomfortable in certain situations, and people need to stop acting like there are no negatives comfort-wise in wearing a mask. It just ads to the chasm between anti-maskers and mask wearers.

Its stupid man. Everything we know says that masks work and that they should be worn whenever possible. There is no reason why we should even be discussing it.

My working theory as to why its such a divisive issue now is that in the beginning, if you remember, most people wore masks without issue or complaint. There was a small chunk of crazies who were vocally against it, but nowhere near what we have now. The "woke" crowd on social media took aim on this small chunk, but instead of saying "hey the small percentage of people who dont wear masks need to wear them", they framed it as "EVERY CONSERVATIVE DOESNT WEAR A MASK AND IS AN IDIOT AND WE ARE BETTER". Then the non-extreme conservatives who werent involved took offense and refused to ignore the stupid screaming by the left as always and it turned into an us vs them thing as a result. Wearing a mask, to them, meant acknowledging that the immature woke crowd was right, as opposed to it meaning that the science was right as it should be. People became entrenched and doubled down and now were here

I sadly find that this model applies to most of our issues these days.

Glasses are a real issue with masks. But, I mean, if everyone is going to be enforced to wear them then you really have no excuse not to wear them in public unless a real medical reason. But, expecting people to wear them when you aren't enforcing it to everyone is just dumb.

I can understand people being disenfranchised with the idea of wearing a mask. It's pretty disheartening being in the Bay Area where we've been under quarantine for longer than everyone but Seattle and our numbers keep going up despite following all guidelines. It's fucking obnoxious to see things not get better and people protesting wearing a mask among other things. So I understand not wanting to wear one anymore and feeling like there's no point and seeing things only get worse while people are wearing masks.

That said, logically you should just wear a fucking mask. Just do it.

Not really, half the population lives in the Quebec City-Windsor Corridor, if it were a US state it would rank 20th in terms of population density (around North Carolina)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec_City%E2%80%93Windsor_Corridor

Outside of Ontario and Quebec; British Columbia (Vancouver) and Manitoba (Winnipeg) have one metro area that contains over half the province's population while Alberta (Calgary/Edmonton) and Saskatchewan (Regina/Saskatoon) have two metro areas with more than 50% of the province's population.

Canada just has a lot of space where nobody lives in.
