You think he will announce it, possibly leave nominations open a week or two, leave the bracket up like 3 weeks after, then have the entire content concluded all in almost exactly 2 months time? Nominations and predictions have taken 4-6 weeks previously and really it just needs to start in summer for his statement to be correct. You look at the other typically English sports like Rugby or Cricket and the referee gets the utmost respect. Absolutely zero negative interaction with the ref. And that's how it should be. I think it comes down to the fact that refs are more expendable in football relative to other sports and the players take advantage of this. MLS refs went on strike a few seasons ago and the league brought in replacement refs. There were a few unfortunate, but understandable deaths in the run. The runner was good at collectable management which is something I like in speedrunning games. The only exception was the large skip, but the set-up was quite long and convoluted for a person that hasn't seen the trick before. And Croatia are only ahead of them because they have already qualified for the quarter finals, they were behind them prior to that Not exactly, Like you said, bookmakers take into account interest from bettors.
