You can't compare a league championship to an international event. I'd argue the level of consistency needed to win a league championship in soccer, or the Champion's League, is much higher than a championship in the NHL/NFL/NBA/MLB, where you need a solid core and have the ability to get hot at the right time. Imagine knocking the best player in each of those sports because they failed to win at the Olympics. World Cup achievements are overrated because it was the only time people ever used to see Pele, Maradona, Platini, Cruyff etc. Ronaldo and Messi have been absurdly good every week for a decade.
