I vaguely remember reading about that a while ago. I thought they could only trademark Winnie the Pooh that was created by Disney (ie one with a red shirt and any personality traits given by Disney). Not too sure about the name.

Regardless, eventually even Disney is going to struggle to trademark every single character ever used in their media.

Are you telling me that in 15 years Superman will be in public domain? Because I doubt it.

Not exactly, because he is likely trademarked on most things. It's the same for Mickey Mouse, the issue isn't him for Disney, it's all of the other characters that would soon become available in the public domain.

It's a difficult question to answer, is going once to a soup kitchen good enough? How about 10 times? You also have to take into account that those same people also do bad stuff. Regardless, it is a minority of people that volunteer regularly, most people are too busy with their lives.

Wanting to do good without actually doing it is relatively meaningless, at best it's a slight positive. You don't need to do big things, even small things are important, but you need to do it. Same thing with people with evil thoughts that don't act upon them.

If I had to chose whether the average person is good or evil I would say we're good, but on a +1 to -1 good/evil scale I'd argue we're a +0.2-0.3 which to me is neutral.

The distinguishing of good neutral to me is how much you care for others. Good people want the world to be a better place - tip more, vote in ways they think help society, assist others in community groups, etc... even if you dont have a lot of impact, wanting better for other people (and not doing things to make things worse for others) makes you good, to me.

Neutral I see as apathy. A lawful neutral person fits into their spot in society, but cares considerably more about themselves than others (good people prioritize themselves too, but put more effort into others). While a neutral person may tip, vote, etc do things to make society a better place, if it's from the realm of wanting life to be better for themselves and not really caring about others so much, then that trends neutral.

While I still believe you are diluting good a bit, a lot more people fit in the later group so at this point my argument would be that you don't have a proper view of the world.

The match was notable in that it marked the point where the rest of the internet noticed there was a contest occurring on GameFAQs. Though the Penny Arcade comic came too late for Pac-Man it and other sites were responsible for the jump in vote totals we saw starting with Link/Jill Valentine.

There are other factors to consider in Ganondorf vs Luigi r2/r3 than just Bacondorf in that contest. The size of the vote to draw matters a lot. Ganondorf is going to crumble harder the tougher his competition gets because of the nature of his leechy fanbase. I'd blame GAME FUEL Master Chief shrinking their combined portion of the vote from 60 to 45 more than Bacon there.

Sonic/Ganondorf also suggested around a 4% shift. Again Pig Ganon isn't a huge factor like Solid **** or Lawyer Vincent or Maskless Joker.

I did the math back in 2013, and that rally was very beatable next round which is why very few people went for the upset. In a match between X, Ryu and Draven almost no one on GameFAQs was going to vote Draven and around 9k votes isn't going to be enough to win.

https://www.polygon.com/2018/12/18/18146266/super-smash-bros-ultimate-sales-nintendo-switch

This performance should receive an additional boost from the December release of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game, which has become not only the fastest-selling Nintendo Switch game of all time, but also the fastest-selling game in the Super Smash Bros. series, Nintendo stated. The game has sold over 3 million copies in 11 days, based on Nintendos own numbers.

I think we would have to go against what's done in Ultimate and only use one version of each person. So a Goomba is a Goomba (unless it's a specific named Goomba).

Though I can see exceptions like Baby Mario should be its own spirit as he appears alongside Mario in games, even if they are supposedly the same person.

Though what about people like Mr. L and Black Knight who are Luigi and Zelgius. Or Mega forms of Pokemon as they revert back to their usual self after a battle.

Generics count.

In terms of cases like Pokemon trainers I would go by unique sprites since there isn't really anything that differentiates them or else we'll have a bunch of bug catchers that are only there because they had names.

Reading through these, is the consensus that 2005 was the best contest? It's certainly my personal favourite

In terms of character battles I think it comes down between 2003 and 2005 for most people here (likely on which results they liked better). 2007 was pretty good too if you were fine with L-Block. 2010 deserves some mention, but day/night matches kind of killed it from being the best ever.

While 2002 was new and exciting, the first two rounds were quite forgettable. 2004 had too many SFF matches plus a company cap, 2006 had the female bracket, 2008 didn't feel fresh, 2013 had too much rallying and by 2018 trends no longer exist and for us contest vets we don't have as much free time anymore because we aren't teenagers.

I still think it's funny that a neutral wouldn't hold Nintendo in high regard, they are by far the largest company in gaming. It would be like wondering why Disney does so well in a movies contest.

"By far the largest" is very debatable. The way that largest company of any description is figured out is usually by revenue, and in that respect Nintendo is nowhere close to someone like Activision Blizzard or Sony.

Nintendo is still larger than Activision Blizzard by revenue while Sony has more than just gaming, it would be like arguing that Microsoft is the largest company.

I'm mostly neutral on fictional characters, mostly because I doubt they would overrun the bracket. In the end this is a video game website and whether Isaac is the fodderline or Harry Potter it doesn't matter, especially since we've allowed literal blocks in the bracket so any kind of moral high ground is gone over a decade ago.
