It's the other way around, politicians take advantage of the situtation as a way to gain votes. Anger is the easiest way to get people to rally behind you as they are less likely to think critically.

Look at how many politicians who claim to be anti-vax, but were found to have gotten the vaccine long ago.

That's a big issue, the general public can't handle the truth so often they give vague answers that aren't 100% true, but then people use it as an example that they are lying to us and nothing works/it's all a big conspiracy.

Pretty much. Vaccines don't magically put a force field around you.

Based on our data, the newer variants see a huge spike in viral loads, but lasts for a shorter amount of time. People whose immune systems tend to overreact to viral infections are going to be hit harder and sadly, I'm not sure if vaccines will help those type of people (especially if it continues to mutate towards higher viral loads). We'll need to look for alternative methods of prevention for those people.

The dose for humans is too low to achieve any meaningful antiviral properties which is why people were using horse prescriptions which may not even be a high enough dose either, but it is enough to cause serious side effects

Here's a little secret about viral diseases

Even vaccinated/recovered people will see a spike in viral load before their adaptive immune system takes over and depending on the disease it may or may not be enough to get symptoms and/or infect other people

Shhh... don't tell anyone

Id love to know why this new variant magically has all the symptoms that those with covid vaccine reactions have been reporting.

WTF is this? Heart complications has always been a (rare) side effect of Covid. It was the whole reason why the AstraZeneca vaccine had that side effect.

"Vaccines and boosters are the only way out of this" was announced before the actual vaccine was ready, and my labs are literally partnered with Pfizer. That's how I and everyone I work with all know it's a scam.

Or maybe they knew how viruses work (coronaviruses easily mutate) or do you think the flu vaccine is also a scam?

Now they're saying up to ten shots a year. If you still buy into this, you are a cultist.

Going to need a link for that, current Pfizer data suggests a booster every six months.

Boosters/yearly vaccines were very much on the table. I can understand why the general public might find this surprising because it was kept quiet, but as someone that's supposedly in the medical profession it was quite obvious.

During the decolonization period, places which were not yet independent were allow to form an Olympic committee. While most of these places later got independence a handful of nations ended up not. Nowadays, new members must be considered a country by the international community. This is a bit vague, as they allowed Kosovo to join despite half the world saying it isn't an independent nation.

Doesn't seem that Table Tennis has much depth either, but it keeps coming back.

Baseball will be in LA and IMO be at every olympics. Having Break Dancing as a sport and not Baseball just does not sound right.

Table tennis does have a lot of depth, many nations actively compete in it, it's just that China dominates it heavily.

Baseball and softball have gotten lucky in terms of hosts. One of the other reasons why it was kicked out after 2008 is that there aren't many baseball fields around the world and the dimensions to build one is too large to say convert a soccer field into a temporary one. Japan and the United States are two of the largest supporters of the sport. Even Australia in 2032 is a relatively pro-baseball/softball nation, unless they want to try something new like cricket (which has more issues than baseball/softball).

China is saying they won the medal count by including Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.

Probably not since Macau doesn't compete at the Olympics. They would also never refer to Chinese Taipei as Taiwan, the whole reason why it's called Chinese Taipei is because China throws a temper tantrum any time someone even suggests calling them Taiwan.

I'm fine with a nation dominating an event/sport. Just because a nation is dominant doesn't mean others don't play it. Basketball is arguably the second most played team sport around the world after soccer so it doesn't matter that the United States keeps winning.

Meanwhile baseball can have a handful of nations with a decent chance at winning, but it won't be at the 2024 games because it doesn't have much depth.

Medal Table (After Day 15)

Rank. Name - G - S - B - Total
1. China - 38 - 31 - 18 - 87
2. United States - 36 - 39 - 33 - 108
3. Japan - 27 - 12 - 17 - 56
4. Russia - 20 - 26 - 23 - 69
5. Great Britain - 20 - 21 - 22 - 63
6. Australia - 17 - 7 - 22 - 46
7. Germany - 10 - 11 - 16 - 37
8. Netherlands - 10 - 11 - 12 - 33
9. Italy - 10 - 10 - 19 - 39
10. France - 9 - 12 - 11 - 32

Nobody dropped from the top 10. As expected, it was a big day for the United States where they won ten medals, including five golds, bringing the gap against China down to two. Russia and Great Britain will fight for fourth while the bottom four of the top 10 is far from decided.

In the fight for top spot, the sport to watch will be boxing. China is competing in women's middleweight while the United States has athletes in men's lightweight and men's super heavyweight. If China wins gold in boxing the United States can't afford too many missed opportunities. Along with the two boxing bouts they are also in the gold medal match in women's basketball and women's volleyball. The good news for the United States is that they have more silvers so a tie in the gold medal count means they will still top the medal table

Medal Table (After Day 14)

Rank. Name - G - S - B - Total

2. United States - 31 - 36 - 31 - 98
3. Japan - 24 - 11 - 16 - 51

6. Australia - 17 - 6 - 21 - 44
7. Italy - 10 - 10 - 18 - 38
8. Germany - 9 - 11 - 16 - 36
9. Netherlands - 9 - 10 - 12 - 31
10. France - 7 - 11 - 9 - 27

Nobody dropped off the top 10 though the order of the bottom six has changed quite a bit. Great Britain and the United States won seven medals while Italy won three golds. China and the United States both won two golds which keeps the gold medal gap the same.

This was to be expected as both nations had the same gold medal opportunities, but the United States lost to China in the women's -50kg freestyle wrestling which means an additional lost gold medal opportunity for the Americans bringing the projected gold medal total to a tie. Tomorrow will have to be a big day for the United States. They don't need to surpass China, but they'll need to cut down the deficit to 1-2.

8. France - 7 - 11 - 9 - 27
9. Italy - 7 - 10 - 18 - 35
10. Netherlands - 7 - 9 - 10 - 26

No one dropped out of the top 10, the only change was Great Britain dropping to sixth as the fight for fourth rages on. Another big day for the United States with 12 medals, including four gold. They are now five golds behind China. However, the United States did lose few gold medal chances based on the list I made yesterday. They are currently on pace to win one more gold than China. Athletics, particularly the three remaining eligible relays are important for the United States while China needs to cash in on their boxing and karate chances if they want to hold off the Americans.

Also with Bahamas and Grenada winning their first medals of the games yesterday, we have now set a record of the most nations with an Olympic medal (currently 88).

With fewer than 100 events remaining lets take a closer look between China and the United States and see the chance of the latter catching up to the former. Currently, China holds a seven gold medal lead. Lets go sport by sport and see who still has chances at winning gold medals.

Artistic Swimming (1 event remaining)
While China is very likely to get a medal, it wont be gold unless something happens to the Russian team.
Medal Chances: No golds

Athletics (24 events remaining)
A quarter of the remaining events belong to athletics. The United States hasnt gotten the greatest start, but if they are going to top the medal table, theyll need to win a number of golds in the second half of the event. United States still has gold medal chances remaining in mens 400m, mens 110m hurdles, mens 4x100m relay, mens 4x400m relay, mens shot put, womens 400m, womens 4x100m relay, womens 4x400m relay, womens high jump and womens pole vault. China isnt as strong in athletics with its best chances being in the mens 20km walk and womens 20km walk.
Medal Chances: United States 10 golds, China 2 golds

Baseball/Softball (1 event remaining)
Baseball has a weird format, but the United States lost to Japan in the tenth inning earlier. Theyll need to defeat South Korea before facing off against Japan. Both will be hard matches, but if the United States wants to finish atop of the medal table it may need this event.
Medal Chances: United States 1 gold

Basketball (2 events remaining)
Both teams from the United States remain. The mens team is a bit suspect after their loss to France earlier in the tournament, but I feel both teams have a great chance at winning gold.
Medal Chances: United States 2 golds

Boxing (10 events remaining)
Of the remaining events, the United States has three boxers with athletes in the mens featherweight and super heavyweight in the finals and one athlete in the mens lightweight semifinals. China has two boxers with one person in the womens welterweight finals and another in the womens middleweight semifinals. Among the five I think the womens middleweight athlete has the best chance for gold, but honestly all of them have a realistic chance for gold.
Medal Chances: United States 3 golds, China 2 golds

Canoeing (8 events remaining)
The United States pretty much only has the womens C1 200m as its only gold medal chance. China is competing in more events and could win medals, but in terms of gold medals I feel only the womens C2 500m would be their best chance.
Medal Chances: China 1 gold, United States 1 gold

Cycling (8 events remaining)
No one has a great chance, but China could grab a womens individual sprint gold to go along with their team gold won earlier.
Medal Chances: China 1 gold

Diving (2 events remaining)
China is on another level in diving. Even if one of their divers mess up the other will likely take its place.
Medal Chances: China 2 golds

Equestrian (1 event remaining)
Both nations are competing in the team jumping event, but based on their individual performance neither team really has a chance for gold.
Medal Chances: No golds

Field Hockey (2 events remaining)
Neither nation can win a medal
Medal Chances: No golds

Football (2 events remaining)
Neither nation can win a gold medal
Medal Chances: No golds

Golf (1 event remaining)
Golf can be quite competitive, but Id give the United States a much better chance at winning gold than China.
Medal Chances: United States 1 gold

Gymnastics (2 events remaining)
Its very unlikely that either nation will win gold in rhythmic gymnastics.
Medal Chances: No golds

Handball (2 events remaining)
Neither nation can win a medal
Medal Chances: No golds

Karate (8 events remaining)
One of two sports yet to have started. China has two athletes while the United States has four. However, both of Chinas athletes have a good chance at winning gold while for the United States I can see them medaling, but winning gold is a tall ask for any athlete. Given the nature of the sport Ill give the United States one gold medal chance just because they have so many chances.
Medal Chances: China 2 golds, United States 1 gold

Modern Pentathlon (2 events remaining)
The other sport which hasnt started yet. Nether nation has a chance at winning gold.
Medal Chances: No golds

Skateboarding (1 event remaining)
The United States has a good chance at winning gold in mens park which will hopefully make up for a relatively poor performance in skateboarding.
Medal Chances: United States 1 gold

Sport Climbing (2 events remaining)
The United States has athletes in both finals, but it will be quite unlikely for either of them to win gold, though a medal is possible.
Medal Chances: No golds

Swimming (1 event remaining)
Just the 10km mens open water race remaining. Technically the United States has a better chance at winning gold because China isnt competing, but it would be a hard gold to win.
Medal Chances: No golds

Table Tennis (2 events remaining)
China is a huge favourite to win both team events, along with diving these are Chinas most likely gold medals out of the remaining events.
Medal Chances: China 2 golds

Volleyball (4 events remaining)
The United States still has teams in the womens indoor and womens beach volleyball events. Both have a good chance at winning gold.
Medal Chances: United States 2 golds

Water Polo (2 events remaining)
The United States are the two time defending gold medalists in the womens event and have a good chance at winning a third.
Medal Chances: United States 1 gold

Wrestling (9 events remaining)
China has eligible athletes remaining in three events while the United States has eligible athletes remaining in five events. While China has medal chances in all three events, it would be quite difficult for them to win gold. The United States on the other hand has more serious chances. As I did for karate, Ill give China one gold medal chance due to having a number of smaller chances while the United States could benefit from two golds.
Medal Chances: United States 2 golds, China 1 gold

Overall
Based on what I listed above, the United States still has 25 gold medal chances compared with Chinas 13, which gives the United States an overall five-gold lead. The caveat is that Chinas fewer chances are more likely to happen than the United States, especially in athletics where the gold medal is quite competitive in the remaining events.

8. France - 6 - 10 - 9 - 25
9. Italy - 6 - 9 - 15 - 30

South Korea drops out of the top 10 while Italy enters it. United States won six medals, but only one gold while China won a single silver medal. They now hold a nine total medal lead while China holds a seven gold medal lead. Great Britain jumps up to fourth thanks to winning two gold medals, but Japan countered with two golds of their own so it looks really good for them to hold onto third.

Currently 80 nations have at least one medal, we are 7 away from the record set in 2008. Additionally, 57 have won at least one gold medal and we are currently 2 away from that record set in 2016.

3. United States - 14 - 14 - 10 - 38
4. Russia - 8 - 11 - 9 - 28
5. Australia - 8 - 2 - 10 - 16
6. Great Britain - 5 - 7 - 6 - 18
7. South Korea - 4 - 3 - 5 - 12

Thanks to picking up their second gold, Italy has broken into the top 10, replacing the Netherlands. China has equaled Japan's gold medal haul to take over the top spot. The United States has extended its total medal lead to 7.

More often than not Japan is up there. They aren't USA/China/Russia tier, but usually hang around the other top 10 nations.

Medal Table (After Day 5)

Rank. Name - G - S - B - Total
1. Japan - 13 - 4 - 5 - 22
2. China - 12 - 6 - 9 - 27
3. United States - 11 - 11 - 9 - 31
4. Russia - 7 - 10 - 6 - 23
5. Australia - 6 - 1 - 9 - 16
6. Great Britain - 5 - 6 - 5 - 16
7. South Korea - 4 - 2 - 5 - 11
8. Germany - 3 - 2 - 5 - 10
9. France - 3 - 2 - 3 - 8
10. Netherlands - 2 - 6 - 3 - 11

Canada drops out of the top 10 while the Netherlands has entered it. Italy currently has 15 medals, but only 1 gold.

Japan continues to make the most out of their medal chances winning three more golds. Struggles in the pool and Biles most likely out in gymnastics along with medals being awarded in badminton and table tennis probably means the United States won't get a chance to lead the gold medal count until the second week at the earliest.

The United States would have won the last Olympics without a single swimming medal. Though yeah, the United States greatly benefits from the fact that they are the best at the two sports with the most medals.

If she withdraws then the spot for the final goes to the next highest ranked athlete. So the United States would only retain the spot in the individual all-around and the vault, though if Biles decides to take on a reduced schedule I suspect she will compete in the vault.

Yeah, I slept through that and was shocked to see Russia with the gold medal. After looking into it, Biles withdrew after the first rotation. Hopefully she can recover to compete, but I think she might be done. There has been tremendous pressure put on her by the federation partially due to the lack of depth (relatively) the United States is experiencing for both the men and women.

Most of Canada's chances (probably almost 75%) are in women's events. It also doesn't help that none of the men favourites have competed yet (just a few who had outside chances)

Medal Table (After Day 4)

Rank. Name - G - S - B - Total
1. Japan - 10 - 3 - 5 - 18
2. United States - 9 - 8 - 8 - 25
3. China - 9 - 5 - 7 - 21
4. Russia - 7 - 7 - 4 - 18
5. Great Britain - 4 - 5 - 4 - 13
6. South Korea - 3 - 2 - 5 - 10
7. Australia - 3 - 1 - 5 - 9
8. Canada - 2 - 3 - 3 - 8
9. France - 2 - 2 - 3 - 7
10. Germany - 2 - 0 - 3 - 5

Kosovo and Italy drop out of the top 10 while Canada and Germany enter. Italy has won 12 medals, but with only one gold they are unable to crack the top 10.

Japan is making the most out of their medal opportunities winning gold in 10/18 events. The United States lost two great opportunities for gold in women's artistic gymnastics and women's softball while China made the most out of their opportunities today as all three of their medals ended up being gold

Medal Table (After Day 3)

Rank. Name - G - S - B - Total
1. Japan - 8 - 2 - 3 - 13
2. United States - 7 - 3 - 4 - 14
3. China - 6 - 5 - 7 - 18
4. Russia - 4 - 5 - 3 - 12
5. Great Britain - 3 - 3 - 1 - 7
6. South Korea - 3 - 0 - 4 - 7
7. Australia - 2 - 1 - 3 - 6
8. Kosovo - 2 - 0 - 0 - 2
9. Italy - 1 - 4 - 4 - 9
10. France - 1 - 2 - 2 - 5

Hungary and Tunisia fall off while Great Britain and Kosovo moved into the top 10. China had the biggest medal haul, but none of them gold including missed opportunities in diving, table tennis and weightlifting. Japan leads the medal table with 8 gold medals.

The United States was always the big favourite to win the most medals, but China did have a slight chance in the gold medal department. Today did not help their case. Lucky for them the United States isn't dominating the pool as much as they would like to and if they struggle in gymnastics like they did in the qualification round then that could give China the wiggle room they needed

Big day in the pool for the United States where they won six medals. This allowed them to shoot up to third (second by total medals).

Canada also got on the board with two silver medals

Yeah, using a per capita of measuring medals is unfair for large countries because there is an upper limit to how many athletes a nation can send overall (or even in one event)

Medal Table (After Day 1)

Rank. Name - G - S - B - Total
1. China - 3 - 0 - 1 - 4
2. Italy - 1 - 1 - 0 - 2
2. Japan - 1 - 1 - 0 - 2
4. South Korea - 1 - 0 - 2 - 3
5. Ecuador - 1 - 0 - 0 - 1
5. Hungary - 1 - 0 - 0 - 1
5. Iran - 1 - 0 - 0 - 1
5. Kosovo - 1 - 0 - 0 - 1
5. Thailand - 1 - 0 - 0 - 1
10. Russia - 0 - 1 - 1 - 2
10. Serbia - 0 - 1 - 1 - 2

Only 11 events on the first day, but China wins three of them. Among the top 10 from last games, there are currently no medals for Australia, Germany, Great Britain or the United States while France has a single bronze. Obviously, things are early with all likely to at least challenge for the top 10 during the games.

Pretty much, the last time two European nations won a medal in the same men's tournament was in 1992 while at the World Cup the last time we only had a single European nation on the podium was 1978.

Add in the fact that we just had the Euro Cup and there isn't much of an appetite for them to take it seriously.

Men's football is really only there to play lip service because not having the world's most popular sport at the Olympics would be weird. Tennis is pretty depleted, we are missing half the top players who declined (some due to injury). Golf surprisingly only had a few withdrawals so we'll get to see it at almost full strength (if you like golf)

Based on the men's football highlights, Brazil and Mexico have come to play, while Europe obviously doesn't care about the Olympics.

lol USA Womens soccer

They really need to find some younger blood. Even if they turn it around, them not integrating younger players will catch up on them. They only have 2 players under the age of 26.
