To me its going out of your way to quantify gameplay, talking about it by the numbers boiling it down to the sum of its parts, rather than what it is as a total experience. Its the difference beteeen saying The Witcher 3 opens up to you a massive world full of interesting lore, and theres so much to see and uncover that youll get lost in it for hours And You around fighting monsters and doing quests. And some people wonder why games dont hold their attention for very long anymore. Because youre looking for any reason to take yourself out of it, stupid. --- |

We have the technology to realize these worlds, characters and battles, and you would rather just Look at them then engage in them. I mean thats the biggest dealbreaker about turn based for me. We got one turn based FF7, we got to see what that feels like. How much better is that really going to be with todays technology? There are prettier sprites and backgrounds for you to stare at while select an action from a menu and you watch cool things happen on screen? Id actually like to take part in performing the cool shit on screen, interacting with the environment and getting fully immersed into the world. We have the technology for that these days. I would hate to see it wasted with archaic gameplay. --- |

I want full control of my character in the environment. People look back at turn based combat in Final Fantasy with nostalgia goggles. How strategic did it ever get? You call action combat button mashing yet how many times did you spam the button to select attack after yet another boring random encounter? You dont ever bother to use magic or summons because it was too pointless and drawn out for the trash mobs you fought. Id rather be constantly engaged in battle, worrying about positioning and timing. Then you give me magic and summons on top of that? Why have turn based when you literally have all the same options and be able to move, dodge and attack as you like. --- |

Into a total Lovecraft eldritch horror thing, and the balance between the two themes the game manages to keep. Not only does this game hit so many highs as far as game design is concerned, the fact that it plays as well as it does is outright amazing. Easily the best in the series by far IMHO. --- |

Then Ive tried the Long Sword which is a really fun weapon, great for severing body parts and that jumping slice just feels so fucking good. Then Ive tried the Hunters Horn. Still trying to get the hang of it but I love being a hammer swinging bard. --- |
