I absolutely love the left turn this game took from what you expected to be a Victorian style game with a werewolf theme. Into a total Lovecraft eldritch horror thing, and the balance between the two themes the game manages to keep.

Not only does this game hit so many highs as far as game design is concerned, the fact that it plays as well as it does is outright amazing. Easily the best in the series by far IMHO.

Bloodborne has kind of a weird extreme thing in terms of balance with bosses where just starting out is likely going to be more rough than in DS3, but by the time you're completely on top of things you can utterly spank bosses to a degree that isn't really possible in DS3. Thanks in large part to the brokenly OP beast blood pellet buff.

There are however some bosses in DS3 that are some of the hardest out of the 5 games. But Bloodborne has bosses of that tier too. Overall the hardest Souls content is largely spread out across Bloodborne, DS2 and DS3, with a bit in Demon's Souls and I guess DS1 if you want to count gravelord stuff, but I personally don't for the same reason I don't consider the run speed of unicorns when deciding the fasting animal on land.

Hm yeah that is interesting. Blood-starved Beast seems to generally be the one early on people find infamously problematic.

However I think something that puts Amelia over it is that Amelia is really balanced for a bit later in the game than when you find her, and unlike BSB, who is susceptible to gun parries, Amelia works off the body part damage system. Bosses like that tend to have seemingly inflated health pools, offset by the fact that when you "Break" a body part, not only does it stagger them for a bit to open them to more damage, but damage there until they repair it does more damage, plus "breaking" the head opens up for a very damaging visceral. So the HP gauge kind of lies about how durable such bosses are...however this stuff is mostly not going to come in play as much if someone is often on the defensive and being pushed by the boss a lot.

I like how these games can create different hardest bosses ever for the various people who play them. You guys had a problem with Vicar Amelia, but I had no problem with her whatsoever. I had the most problems with Martyr Logarius and Ebrietas in the base game, and Orphan of Kos pushed my shit in in the DLC.

as far as art direction and enemy/boss designs go, Bloodborne is well above the others in the "series" in quality.

and how the game progresses from a "simple" hunt to a cosmic horror adventure is pretty amazing.

Bloodborne is a masterpiece, IMO.

He's also got that thing where if you face him and walk to the left it's extremely hard for him to hit you, lols

BSB mostly becomes problematic in the last phase of the fight where there's more potential for jumping and also the poison aura and if someone doesn't know what's going on when it tries to supercharge said aura it can be a real setback.

The other thing that likely trips people up is that for almost everyone at that point it gains an instant kill move whose telegraph is a little counter-intuitive because instead of it doing something specific to warn it's about to perform that move, the warning is it not doing anything for a half second.

And similarly, that boss mostly becomes dumb in the third phase where openings to actually do damage almost entirely disappear. Though that's just openings to do melee damage at least.
